greatest day ever
in my lifetime as a bears fan other than the day in jan of 86’
"" Jay Cutler is our quaterback" haha
Second that
I’m stoked!!! This was an awesome deal (plural actually).

that day in january or 07 was better
but this could be third
Bears colors run in our blood and I couldn't agree with everyone more.
Ya know, I live in Fort Wayne, IN. and everytime I even see someone with our colors and logo supporting our historic franchise, I cant help with saying something to them to show we are brother’s by football. What a Great Fricken Day!!!

Prediction
Olsen Gets 85 receptions for 1100 yards. Cutler uses his tightends pretty well. I really like us on offense. Cutler, Forte, Olsen, Des Clark, Hester. Only thing missing is a big receiver opposite devin.

Don't forget that Earl Bennett was Cutler's primary target at Vanderbilt.
There’s a lot to be said about having chemistry with your receivers.
totally agree
I think Bennett is going to show why he is the SEC’s all time leader in receptions now that Cutler is there.
Still need WRs, S, OLB
But looking pretty damn good all the same.
anyone else...
… a little worried that signing Pace is a sign that the Bears are not at all confident in Chris Williams?

i was never confident in him.
however, i think they just want to give him time to develop. IIRC, he was kind of a project pick.
a horrible horrible project pick (IMO) as i say, don’t take the fourth guy in the first round.
Is my Medication off? Is this Real?
Holy Sh*t!
Holy Sh*t!
Holy triple Sh*t!
awesome
Earl Bennet my have a breakout year, Cutler through to him at his proday last year and they were teamates at Vandy
So they
have a raport. Thats cool. Never hurts to have a little history and know where your receivers going to be.

Pace
probowl talent….veteren leadership….and mentor Chris Williams. Orlando Pace, Roberto Garza, Olen Krutz, Kevin Shaffer, Frank Omiyale…thats alot of probowls.
13-1
Cutler is 13-1 over the last 2 yrs. when Denver gave up less than 30 points and that loss was in ot to the hated packers
do ya'll know what this means?
for the first time in the history of madden, the Bears will have a QB with an overall rating over 84

The Hester-Cutler combination
will be unstoppable on Madden. You’ll be able to run fly routes with Hester all day long.

OMG THEY TOOK ORTON TOO?

There was an incident a few years ago. The Bulls were killing the Knicks, scrubs were playing out the clock, and the fans were screaming at them to score 100 points for free Big Macs. They took a ton of shots, Knicks took offense and they tried to fight some Bulls players.

Oh he sucks.
OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG WE HAVE A PRO BOWL QB.
Cutler is probably, no definitely the best QB in Bears history

umm...
Sid Luckman?

mcmahon...
… was incredibly overrated. The guy has a career QB rating of 78, and only three seasons over 85.
Bringing moderation to a place I don't moderate.
visit the mindful mission
1. mcmahon was far better than anyone who suited up after him
2. injuries kept him from his full potential.
3. i don’t think there was a better one between luckman and mcmahon.
so i’m putting luckman 1 and mcmahon a distant second on the greatest bears qbs
fair enough...
… but that is more a sad commentary on the state of Bears QB history rather than how great McMahon was.

Luckman is from a different era
and would not match up to modern era QBs. so yes, the best QB the bears ever had

Right, McMahon has been the best I have ever seen with the Bears although...
He had a receiver in paticular named Willie Gault that left everyone behind. Those were good times..real good times!!! What a day to remember, JA did his job.
by Bears fan 4-ever!!! on Apr 2, 2009 8:52 PM CDT up reply actions
are you serious?
So by that standard, Jim Brown wasn’t one of the best running backs ever? OJ Simpson is out too. Hell…. by that standard, Walter Payton couldn’t match up with current running backs.
There is no way that you can say that Jay Cutler, at this point in his career, is better than Sid Luckman was.
Basically you are saying that Cutler is the best QB of this era. That may be true. But he surely is not the best QB the Bears have ever had.

smack yourself in the face for saying that
Luckman played in an era where the forward pass was very uncommon. hello!! the T formation? ring any bells. Defenses hadn’t evolved to stop it.
so once again, Cutler= best QB we ever had.

Actually
Luckman was part of the revolution that was the forward pass. The T formation was so revolutionary because you could easily run or pass our of it, and Luckman was successful because he was capable of doing both. That’s why Halas went to get him.
The fact that Luckman is the best QB in Bears history is precisely the problem
Cutler completed more passes last year, than the Bears all-time record.

NFL Network says Pace's deal is 3 years
no money involved, but as old as he is, i bet its 2 years with a high payment in the 3rd year, which he’ll be cut for.
"If God had wanted man to play soccer, He wouldn't have given us arms" - Ditka
3 year $15million
$6.1million payout this first year is being reported.
Working out the O-line
Two weeks ago the only tackle on our roster who had ever started an NFL game at the position was Omiyale, who had one start for Carolina against the Saints. Today we’ve got two veteran tackles, plus Chris Williams and Omiyale as a utility guy and possible starter on the interior.
I dunno what this means for Williams, but my guess is that Shaffer wins the RT job and Pace is the LT, with Williams learning his trade as a backup this year. If Pace is your starter, then you know your backup is going to get some starts.
Wouldn’t surprise me if Omiyale wins one of the guard spots.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.

SEE THAT BEING THE OUTCOME IF IT IS TRULY AN OPEN COMPETITION

Ok, everything's coming up roses it seems
is there any downside about with this that we can find? Anything? After all these years of disappointment I’m trying to find the cloud in the silver lining, but I can’t seem to find it. *Draft picks being gone would normally suck but we blow all of our 1st round picks every year anyway;
*Orton being gone might suck if I hadn’t watched him play that last month of the season (granted he was hurt);
*Cutler’s productivity is lights out compared to anything we’ve had in a while
Is there a downside?

Wish we would have held on to that 3rd this year. JA usually does pretty well with 3rd rounders.

Yeah
but when the details were first released it was Denver giving us a 3rd. So a 2 and 3 3rds would have been very nice. But yeah we still got the 99th pick I believe, just wish we had the 84th and 99th.

Only downside
I’m curious to see how the O-line shakes out during OTAs and training camp. I sure hope CW doesn’t turn out to be a colossal bust. If not, does Pace move to the right side?

O-Line
good point – I wonder how quick of a trigger they’d be on for moving Pace to the right side, if ever. I also worry about the defense getting another year older, as it was hardly ‘formidable’ last season.

the defense will get better because Babbich is essentially gone
he was horrible..

Last year nobody was even considering Eddie Royal to be close to decent untill J.C. made him look good in the pre-season. I see the same thing happening with Earl, or maybe some one else(Holt/Harrison/#2Draftpick).
