Who Wins?
First, Roger Goodell wins. Why? Because the Broncos said hell no to the number 1 pick in the draft and the money that would cost them. This is good leverage for the Commish, and rightfully so. Why should unproven talent get so much money upfront before they do anything at the pro level?
Second, the Bears. I am not too fraught over "losing" the two 1st Rounders. In the last five, six years, every year the play I want gets bypassed, or we trade down, etc., etc. I am still crying over Chris Williams. I am actually more sad that Orton couldn't stay to be a back up!
But, this makes sense that the Broncos will have KO for a year and they can draft a QB this year or next in the 1st-- unless McDaniels wants to see what Simms can do, or what he can find later in this draft. There will be some good players that could be developed (Stephen McGee, Mike Teel, Tom Brandstater, Cullen Harper, Curtis Painter) by Bronco Boy Wonder!
Also, and I wasn't getting my hopes up, but it's ironic that Simms was rumored for weeks and months, and even for the last year, to be headed to Chicago -- or as a possibility that intrigued fans.
And now, both Orton and Simms are Broncos. How funny the world works.
I am happy for all of us long-suffering Bears fans. We now have a QB that we can be confident with. I hope this cloud never dissipates.

WHO WINS?? DA BEARS!
and signing Orlando Pace is beautiful. What a great day! All we need is to compliment Hester with another receiver and we’re SUPER BOWL BOUND!

Denver wins
Jay Cutler sucks – he can’t win anywhere. He’s a product of the media’s hard-on for passing yards, which you’re not going to get in Chicago. He’s also a product of Ben Roethlisberger’s 2004 season. After everyone spent the offseason hyping up Manning and Rivers, Roethlisberger had a better season than either of them, so the next year the media decided they themselves would anoint a “3rd guy” to compare with the first two, and their groupthink centered on Cutler, who was overrated at Vanderbilt and overrated in Denver. He is not worth two firsts, a third, and Kyle Orton. I predict Chicago will win between 7 and 9 games. That’s exactly what I predicted as of yesterday. When you trade two 1sts, a 3rd, and your #1 QB, that’s NOT what the net result is supposed to be.
You want me to say something nice about Cutler? Fine. He’s not nearly the baby he’s being made out to be. I would be pretty pissed too if my new coach said he wanted to trade me straight up for a piece of shit quarterback like Matt “21TDs – 11 INTs with Randy Moss, Wes Welker and the Patriots’ offensive line” Cassel. He had every right to be miffed at that. Kyle Orton could have been 33 – 10 with that cast. Rex Grossman could have been 40 – 20 with that cast.
I still don’t know enough about the Pace signing. Is he going to play LT (idiotic, and a sign that Chris Williams isn’t everything we thought which should immediately result in Angelo’s head), or RT (a good move, as he won’t be facing the other team’s best guy)
Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!
UMD 8/04 - 5/08: Go Terps!
hard to believe
When you start off, “Jay Cutler sucks – he can’t win anywhere,” it’s real hard to take anything you say seriously. He’s been the QB on teams that would have lost far more games had he not been the QB. In college and in Denver. Vandy doesn’t beat Tennessee in 2005 without Cutler. Vandy hadn’t beaten UT since 1982…winners and more importantly, competitors, don’t sit the bench.
Cutler started 45 games, every game of his college career, which took place in the SEC. And so what if he suffers from the BR effect. How does that disprove his talent. He only threw for 4500 yards last year because pro scouts and “experts” decided there were three 1st Round QBs??? That’s absurd, even in a league that follows trends a little too much like Mr. Ripley.
I don’t care about what the experts thought. I go by what I see when I watch football games. Jay Cutler knows how to play the position at a high level, and has shown he can lead an offense with sub-par talent.
As someone pointed out on another post, on another day — we’ll see how well Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal are this year when they don’t have the same QB. We’ll see who made who better.
