Pick Your Poison - Offensive Line

Ewood_medium

We have batted around many different scenarios with what the Bears should do with their draft now that we have Jay Cutler and don't have a first round pick.  I decided to attempt to put together some sort of official WCG draft chart.  I am going to use WCG's draft guru, ChiFan13's, rankings as a basis.  Check out them our for a refresher.  These were made prior to the Combine and workouts, so I have added any person who may have since risen to a 2nd round consideration.

We will do a similar process for OL, S/CB and DT.  Then I'll pull the winners and we'll have a Best of Show vote to determine who our choice for the Bears 2nd Round pick is.

Duke Robinson

Big Road Grader. Good pick at #49 if there.

Glad this was posted as it gives a forum for my random draft thoughts. Most of all i’d love to trade up to get Crabtree or Harvin…. But back to reality I’m pretty excited about Rashad Johnson at #49. Much more so than Massaquoi who is definitely not a top 50 player in this draft.

I say we draft RJ at 49 then go for the best WRs with the rest of our picks. Hypothetically even JA could get a WR if he used every pick after #49 on one. My interest is turning towards later round/more obscure WR talent. Of the names I have seen one guy I can vouch for is Mike Thomas from Arizona. the guy is a legit threat and will be a great slot receiver in the NFL even tho he is undersized at 5’8. Do we need a #1? yes, but we need a 3, 4, 5 as well.

Ramses Barden. 6’6… ok give him a shot in later rounds.

Massaquoi is likely to be there at #99… not such a reach there

McShay brought up Brandon Tate from UNC… sounds talented.

Still hoping that we trade up or that a blue chip WR falls to us in the 2nd, but we can get a starting safety in RJ at #49 and at least 1 ok WR by the end of this weekend and that would be great….

Brandon Tate

was Nicks before Nicks was Nicks. He was projected to be a 1st-2nd rounder before he got injured (torn ACL I believe, but don’t quote me).

He could be a nice pickup in the 4th or 5th.

Massaquoi

is a quick riser. It’s highly doubtful he’ll be there at #99, let alone #49. JA needs to go with the BPA at any of our need positions….WR, FS, or G/T.

I'll pass on the guy who "drops easy catches."

LOL.

And, this afternoon, Jerry said they’ll pass on a WR, if they don’t think he’s a playmaker. They want playmakers, and they’re not gonna select a vanilla WR just to appease to the fans and media.

If that playmaker is a ballhawk in the secondary (Rashad Johnson), or a guy who can blow up huge holes to run though (Duke Robinson), or a pass rusher… then, so be it.

The problem

Does anyone really consider these picks a player that will be able to be an effective starter for years to come/

#34: You'll be missed!

for me it's a tie between...

Unger, wood and Mack. If macks there I’d pick him, with the line solidified at the tackles with pace, shaff, and Yale I’d prefer to take a C/G to play in place of beekman and challenge Kruetz in a year or two.

Awww, man what am I supposed to do about my sig now?

Where is

the “none of the above” option? These guys will all be gone after the 2nd round, and I don’t want an o-lineman in the second round.

DEJESUS!!!

The point of the pick your poison posts...

Is to do another post at the end to put the top choices against each other.

So, I voted for Mr.Loadholt...

He’s definately a prototypical RT in my eyes and would be our RT of the future for sure. The only thing that got me to pick Loadholt over Robinson or Wood is that Loadholt is a bit higher on most boards so more value there. I’d be very happy with any of the three.

I agree

Over at ProFootballWeekly they had a piece about the correlation between arm legnth and success as an NFL tackle, one of the things they pointed out was Loadholts extremely long arm reach, so that is why he get my vote.

Chris Williams, Bears: 32¾ inches

That would be among the shortest arm lengths in the NFL for tackles. Ouch.

The future is already here...

He’ll be competing at RT, while Pace is at LT

When did Alex Mack

leave Nickelodeon and start playing football? … and become male?

no matter what. So get a few!

After the draft a lot of teams will be letting their Veteran Recievers go

that is when we will most likely find a stopgap for the next couple of years. A guy who is cheap and has something to prove. Then we’ll pick up a project reciever. We really need a safety/Dline. Defense is more important than offense. (A fair balance is good, but our defense was really really bad last year)

If you want to crown em...
