The Bears Den - 4/23/09
....where we are unabashed Bulls fans. Congrats to Derrick Rose for winning Rookie of the Year!
In The Den
Chicago Tribune
Dan Pompei breaks down the top S in the draft.
David Haugh details five current Bears that should be watching the draft this weekend.
Chicago Sun-Times
Brad Biggs details need #4 for the Bears: Defensive end.
TCU LB Stephen Hodge is related to Lovie Smith. Not only that, but he's a terrific blitzer. Don't be surprised to see his name called for the Bears on draft day.
Chris Ballard, the Southwest regional scout for the Bears, has picked some gem DB's. The newest one may be Texas Tech's Darcel McBath.
Biggs also reports that Jerry Angelo is checking up on the medical reports of all the prospects. I hope so. Jerry can't afford another Chris Williams PR nightmare like last summer.
Biggs breaks down Jerry's drafts in pretty much the same way that I did.
Biggs also had a chat with Jauquin Iglesias.
This story wins the "Sometimes Jerry shouldn't talk" award. Why?
''I really didn't understand [the fan reaction] until after the fact,'' Angelo said. ''I was really taken aback. But I'm not a Chicagoan." (ChiFan13 edit: referring to Sir Jay's trade)
Well, Jerry, let me spell it out for you. For the most part, the QB's that have played in Chicago since you got here were as stellar as Hunter Hillenmeyer's pass coverage; in a word, awful. But Jerry's not done:
''Obviously, the quarterback position speaks volumes,'' Angelo said. ''We all sleep better at night. He saves lives. But going forward, we've got to do other things to help him.''
We have two winners as of right now:
"Chicago is no longer where receivers go to die" - GallopingGhost
"Jerry probably owns a bar and it was going to go under without Orton keeping it afloat with his bar bill. Cutler is picking up the tab now." - WCG
Also, here's the complete transcription of said press conference.
Daily Herald
Mike Imrem wrote a piece on the above story.

"He saves lives"
Unlike Rex who after the Super Bowl almost made me drown…..in Jack Daniels and cokes.
Nathan Vasher should be the one Bear feeling the most heat
I have a growing view that Nathan Vasher is in danger of being cut by the Bears at some point before the season. Fact is the Bears are paying him a lot of money while his last two seasons have been punctuated by major injury downtime and otherwise dubious performance on the football field. Vasher in my mind is a player fighting to keep his job.
You NEED Culter on that wall...
I ordered the Code Jay,
Freudian slip
Cutler just may have saved Jerry’s life as a GM and it sounds like Jerry knows it.
Jerry probably owns a bar
and it was going to go under without Orton keeping it afloat with his bar bill. Cutler is picking up the tab now.
Being Who You Thought We Were Since 2005!
Iglesias
Might be a nice option in the 3rd round if he slips that far. He had a good Senior Bowl (shows his quick adaptability), and decent size.
I’m not sure why Mitchell, Clemons, Nolan, and Quin are not listed with the safeties.
"I'm not so mean. I wouldn't ever go out to hurt anybody deliberately - unless it was, you know, important, like a league game or something." - Dick Butkus

Does anybodyknow where Patrick Turner is picked to go round wise?
If you live in Chicago you are a bears fan, if you move from chicago you stay a bears fan, if you move to chicago you will be a bears fan.
