WCG Mock Draft - The Pittsburgh Steelers Select...

CURRENT SELECTION

Alex Mack
Cal
Center

ANALYSIS: Part of the reason I picked the Steelers for the mock draft is because it should be easy to pick for them. The reigning Super Bowl Champs, what are their strengths? They have the number one defense, a good, sometimes great QB and some good receivers (although Ward is getting up there in years) so their strengths are many but their weaknesses? Well Roethlisberger was sacked 46 times last season, second most in the league behind Cassel. I think that had a lot to do with Big Ben's poor TD-INT ratio (17-15). So they need to shore up the line if they want Big Ben to last in this league and open holes for their backs. The way this mock has gone so far there aren't any first round-grade tackles left and while a guard is a possibility, the mocks I looked at all had the Steelers taking a center and who better than the number one ranked center.

Other possibilities: Guard, CB, WR? (Duke Robinson, Darius Butler, Britt)

Meh

I still think the Steelers were WAY overrated and were lucky to play a tired team with a shitty rookie Quarterback in the AFC title game. Also so many blown calls in their favor which is kinda like what happened in 2005.

I still can’t get over them beating the Bears that year. I still cant get the image of Jerome Bettis shredding the Defense through the snow out of my head.

Good call

I think they’re kinda sorta happy with Hartwig, in that he wasn’t the trainwreck that Mahan was. But Mack seems like a good fit for them. And besides, the Steelers always have the most basic nicknames (Fast Willie Parker? Very creative), and of course they could call him Mack Truck.
