Anquan Boldin for cheap?
The Arizona Cardinals have reduced their trade demands for disgruntled receiver Anquan Boldin to a second-round pick in Saturday's draft and other considerations and are talking to at least three teams who seem to be newly interested, two sources told EPSN's Sal Paolantonio on Friday.
-From ESPN
I know it would be unlike Jerry to make another massive trade, but if we're gonna use our 2nd rounder on a WR, why not get one who is proven?
I say offer them our 2nd and a 6th, maybe toss in Hillenmeyer or Clark and I say get this thing done.
It would be huge if we were able to do this.

I agree
I think our second and 6th sound good. Maybe, just maybe, go as high as 2nd and 5th.
Grab a DE in 3rd and a safety in the 4th. Wow…what a season we’d have.

I'm all for it if it's true and
depending on what the other considerations are. I’d say Bolding is worth the #49 pick, it wouldn’t change our drafting strategy that much in the later rounds anyway. So JA you’re on the clock.
Because as far as we're concerned, there is still no team in the history of the NFL that could beat the '85 Bears.
by Ditkavsworld on Apr 24, 2009 2:18 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I wouldn't say JA your on the clock.
If he doesn’t make this happen it wouldn’t be the end of the world.
And I don’t think we should get on his case.
2 blockbusters from JA in one off-season? That would be crazy.
However it does seem like a very rare opportunity that we should take advantage of.

You don't have to say it
I said it. And I’m not putting any pressure on JA since I don’t know him, and he probably doesn’t factor in my blog comments into his decision making. I didn’t say it’d be the end of the world either, but I wouldn’t mind seeing it happen, if in fact the info stated is factual.

I think I'm for it too
I was hoping for safety or DE with the second round pick, provided both Britt and Robiskie were off the board. Anquan Boldin for a second rounder and considerations is most likely to good to pass up. Boldin is a proven commodity over Robiskie and Britt.
I would lament the lack of a draft towards the defensive side of the ball, but honestly, with all the money that we have paid to our defense in the past two years. Some players on BigD need to get off their ass and start performing closer to 100% anyways. Here’s to hoping Marinelli lights the proverbial fire under their collective asses.
If the Bears end up with Boldin?
Then I want to say it now, This will have been the greatest off-season that the Bears and Jerry Angelo have ever had. Our offense could become so good that we could be serious contenders even with the 28th or 29th ranked defense.
by Fridge72 on Apr 24, 2009 2:27 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
It would probably be the biggest
improvement through trades in NFL history. There is no reason Angelo shouldn’t be inquiring. If this bidding starts at a second round pick (and a new contract) then get in the bidding. Maybe a second this year and a 3rd or 4th next year.
WR was at least a consideration this year, and Boldin’s production is a best case scenario for pretty much any WR in the draft, and that’s after a few years of transitioning.

I completely agree
I wouldn’t be completely against giving them the 2nd and Clark. Clark’s trade value came up on a thread yesturday, I was thinking he didn’t really have much. Don’t get me wrong, I really like Clark, he is just getting old. I kinda think it would work here though. I’m about to look up who the Cards TE are. I’m willing to bet now though that Clark would be an upgrade.

If that happened
this would definitely go down as the biggest off-season in Bear’s history (and potentially the best). I don’t understand why the Cardinal’s would come out publicly to announce they’re willing to take less for Boldin now the day before the draft. More than likely some team that loses out on one of the top 8 receivers in the draft will panic and offer something better than the 2nd and a late round pick. I don’t think the Cardinals are in any rush to get a trade done because unlike the Cutler situation with Denver, Arizona is in control of the situation and will dictate the terms and if they aren’t offered something they like then I’m sure they’ll be plenty content to sit back and 1) wait for something better to come up or 2)have Boldin play because despite him asking for a trade, he’s a team player and he’s under contract so he’ll go out and do his job (even if he isn’t happy with the team).

This might be a ploy to actually drive up the price.
Boldin offered for a 1st and 3rd saw no takers. Offer him for a 2nd and change and maybe a bidding war erupts which leads to a 1st and change. Just a thought.

they want him gone. I dunno why, but thats how it looks.
by Edicus2288i on Apr 24, 2009 2:45 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yea but still,
even if they really want him gone they’re gonna want fair compensation for him, and a guy who is tough as nails (played with a broken jaw for god’s sake!) and has proven he can carry a team and be a franchise receiver is worth more than a 2nd and late round pick. And he was just as angry about the situation last year but still shut his mouth during the season, went out and produced. He’ll probably be traded but its gonna take a much better package than what ESPN is reporting IMO.

I have a feeling the only way the Bears land boldin
would to have a deal in place that’s heads above the others. the Cards would probably send him to an AFC team or a shitty NFC team before trading him away to a conference team that has Cutler, Forte and Hester on their offense.
Think With Your Dipstick Jimmy!
by ifuwannacrownem on Apr 24, 2009 2:52 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
If it happend...
I really believe Boldin would be the perfect fit. The Bears have a deep threat (and getting better) in Hester. And as most of you know, Boldin is known as one of the Best in-traffic receivers in the game. I love it. I was dead set on the Bears needing a 6’3 + receiver for the readzone (like Burress or Edwards) but hey, Olsen is 6’5’’! If he isn’t gonna be a big enough target for Cutler no one is.
So with that being said, I love the idea… I don’t know how EVERY NFL team isn’t putting a big red bow on their 2nd round pics and offering them to the Cardnals.

He proved through the Cutler trade that he will put all the cards on the table.
Offer the our 2nd and 6th this year and 5th next year with a player – Hillenmeyer or Clark.
Everyone says giving up all a bunch of picks is crazy, but for a proven player it is always worth it.

Offering what we did for Culter is fine. Getting rid over everything but the 7th round for two years to get two players is a bit much. We aren’t the Redskins here…

Hillenmeyer and Clark or Vasher
are likely not the pieces that the Cards are going to look for. It’s going to have to be a bigger player. Urlacher, Briggs, someone of that caliber is going to have to be offered as part of the deal to land Boldin. I dont’ see the Cards taking a 2nd and Hillenmeyer or Clark or both … Jerry’s got the balls to do this, but it’s going to come at a price. NO WAY we get Boldin without giving up talent.

Hillenmeyer and Clark aren't trade bait
Vasher has value, mebbe as high as a 4th or 5th rounder. I’m not saying he’s worth that little, just saying that’s where I’d peg his TRADE value.
If this is true — and I mean really, who knows ANYTHING the day before the draft — then that No. 49 pick is already on the table and it’s all about what the Cardinals want/need.
That means you could be looking at a deal like our 2nd rounder and a player like Mark Anderson or Alex Brown… although it’s unclear to me that either is a legit 3-4 DE. Hell, Israel Idonije might be a MUCH better 3-4 DE prospect for the Cardinals.
Is that worth it? Sure. We’d be trading away depth and a 2nd rounder for a true Pro Bowler. Cutler has more question around his game than Boldin does.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
by xarker on Apr 24, 2009 6:06 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Vasher has the coverage skills to succeed elsewhere but...
The cards have the depth in the secondary. I think the 2nd next years third either mark Anderson or Hillenmeyer (who actually has value as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 scheme) can possibly get the job done. With our comp and our later picks we can still address the S and DE positions.

There is something special about a man raising his boy to follow the Bears.
I have been fortunate enough and blessed to raise a son and daughter to follow the Bears. What a joy it is when a father buys his child his first Bears jersey. And what a joy it is when they acknowledge their love for the Bears because of your love for the Bears.
Whats strange is you stalking me, looking for me to make comments about me being a New York Knick fan. What is strange is you having awkward thoughts about little boys and trying to pass them off on someone else, making assumptions that stem from your immoral, sick, mind. Why would you even think or say something like that? I am a father of two children, a 13 year old and a 3 year old. The assumption you are trying to make is something that shouldn’t even be meant as just joking around. You should be ashamed.

it begins...
SI.com reports Detroit just signed Stafford to a deal; 6 year 41.7 million guaranteed.

Profootballtalk.com reported the St. Louis Rams just purchased a plane ticket for Mark Sanchez
this is either the real deal, or they’re trying to get out of the top ten by pulling this stunt.

Do you guys feel that any of these QB's will actually pan out?
I for one believe that Stafford and Sanchez are overrated. I feel kinda bad for these teams with top picks in the draft that have to shell out all this guaranteed money for players that you won’t even know if they’ll pan out in the NFL. A rookie wage scale is definitely needed and the players association is doing their veterans a disservice by not getting it done.

#1 pick QB
I’ll tell you what i would do. my next 2 picks would be OT and another offensive line. If I am spending 41 mill on a guy i want him to have the best protection in the NFL. Part of the reason rookie QB’s bust is that they get sacked all the time and it messes with their head. Ryan Leaf for example; he was a huge bust, but man did he get lit up all the time.

i don't think we should trade for Boldin
He might seem cheap now for a second round draft pick and other considerations, but he won’t be cheap when he demands a contract extension. I’m just not sure he’s worth it considering his age and how he won’t have someone like larry fitzgerald to make him look better if he’s on the bears. With any trade possibility, there’s always risk, but i’m just not sure if he’s the answer.

if he's not the answer then you don't know the question
devin hester has a contract of 4 years 40 million. that is something that is not worth it.
