I have a hunch Angelo looks linebacker at #105.

I like him because of his production, but we’ll have to see if he can consistently gets off the line in press coverage. I certainly think he’s better than some of the other WRs taken before him.

Iglesias is a developmental project
I won’t expect him to contribute much as a rookie. But I really like the pick at #99.

DJ Moore
Sounds like he’s dropping because he’s got marginal size-speed-strength … but at this point in the draft, with his instincts, he’d be a great Nickel guy.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
Daniel Manning is the nickel back
We need a bonafide Safety and somebody to replace Nathan Vasher at Cornerback.

and he might not be the guy.
He doesn’t seem like a good fit as a Cover 2 corner.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
Not just yet.....
Vasher hasnt been healthy over the last two years id give him on year before we let him go this guy was known as the “interceptor” he had 16 picks in his first three seasons if hes healthy this year look for him to bounce back hes only 27 so its not like hes on his last legs i do like the pick of the corner however i think hell help out on special teams and nickel.
Iglesias hopefully devolps but i do see chicago siging a journeymen or Plaxico if he isnt going to jail and depending on what goodell does

Only thing I can find cant even find highlights on him
04/20/2009 – A converted running back, Texas’ Henry Melton has played defensive end only two seasons. He might have to switch positions again when he gets to the NFL. Some 3-4 teams are looking at the former Grapevine product at outside linebacker. He worked out for the Cowboys there last week. “I haven’t played a lot of linebacker since high school,” Melton said in a telephone interview. “I’m a pretty athletic guy, good in space, so that’s what a lot of teams are looking at.” Besides the Cowboys, Melton has visited with the Colts, Bears, Vikings, Buccaneers, Packers and 49ers. He is projected as a sixth-round choice. – Charean Williams, Star-Telegram

Texas officials looking into defensive end’s arrestComment Email Print Share Associated Press
AUSTIN, Texas — Texas junior defensive end Henry Melton was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated early Friday.
Melton was pulled over in the popular Sixth Street entertainment district about 2:30 a.m. after officers noticed his truck driving in an unsafe manner, Austin police spokeswoman Laura Albrecht said.
In the arrest report, officer Steven Martinez said Melton failed a field sobriety test, smelled strongly of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, staggered, used profanity and was insulting during his interview.
Melton also told the officer he had nothing to drink, Martinez reported.
Melton was charged with DWI and taken to the Travis County Jail. He was released at 8:15 a.m. after posting a $1,500 personal recognizance bond, according to jail records.
Texas athletic spokesman John Bianco said school officials were aware of the arrest and were looking into it. It was not immediately clear if Melton has an attorney.

This is an indictment of Adewale Ogunleye, Mark Anderson and what we lack at the outside linebacker spot opposite Lance Briggs.

Strategy & tactics
Even if Melton is a great find, this is like JA’s Mitchell flirtation at 49: It’s a dumb PICK. You wanna pick your finds just a bit before where they’re slotted, not several rounds before where they’re slotted.
Scouting isn’t drafting.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
Okay, but you're grading the Bears based upon YOUR slotting...
…and presuming that you have a better idea of what other teams are going to do.
Not really
I don’t have any idea where these players should go. But when a guy isn’t even ranked by ESPN and you take him at the 105 pick, odds are you’re reaching.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
You're also talking about the same company that employs
Steven A. Smith/Scoop Jackson and Jim Rome as “experts”
"The Zen philosopher Basho once wrote: 'A flute with no holes is not a flute, And a doughnut with no hole is a Danish.' He was a funny guy."

But when it comes to the draft board
ESPN hires Scouts Inc. to put together its scouting report. Available to Insiders.
These guys could be wrong, but they’re not jacklegs.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
That's ironic
Thanks for pointing that out in public though, because here’s what they say about Melton:
A former running back, Melton display excellent lower-body strength that gives him the ability to stack and shed when holding the edge against the run. He also flashes the quickness and natural ability to bend that could allow him to develop into an effective pass-rusher.
Hmm….
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
Melton is exactly the sort of player the Bears love to draft.
A guy who can contribute on defense AND special teams, and a guy with raw athletic talent who’s unfinished and can be coached to play their way.
Yup
And we know how Jerry hates bad character guys. If Jerry drafted him, he must be ok.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
I realize that
And that’s my point. He screwed up, and Jerry doesn’t like bad character guys. His interview and private workout must have gone well if Jerry took him.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
scouts isn't even the best talent evaluator

I guarantee you
that EITHER ONE knows more than I do.
I’m just interested in how to manage the decision-making.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
I'll take the word of professional NFL front office people over talking heads on a sports network
For those not bright enough to grasp the fundamental underpinning of a message board, please take note that "EVERYTHING I state is an OPINION."
Yeah, but they don't have the resources of NFL teams.
There aren’t as many of them. They don’t get private workouts. Etc.
That's true
But there’s wisdom in crowds and idiocy in crowds. Neither is a guarantee of success.
Which is why I’m back to the gamesmanship of the draft. Are you drafting in a way to maximize your chance of getting lucky?
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
Me personally
I visit all kinds of draftnik sites to see what everyone says….and with Melton the earliest “draft grade” I had seen was 5th with other listing him as a 6th maybe 7th….but eh its over hes a Bear…gotta hope he plays hard and pans out….
by CloudyFuture on Apr 26, 2009 11:48 AM CDT up reply actions
that would be better than
plays out and pans hard
And Mitchell got drafted BEFORE the Bears picked...

Way I look at it is...
…MOST of the players drafted today are NOT going to be significant players. So you do your scouting and find the guys you like, but then you study the game of drafting and you don’t fall in love with your own opinions. Odds are bad for any of these guys becoming stars, so you focus on trying to acquire people where you can get them and hoping to assemble the best group you can get.
Then you hope to get lucky.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
Pass defense
starts with a good pass rush, hopefully these two guys will provide that.

Strengths:
Extremely athletic…Pretty good speed and quickness…Explosive with a burst…Great balance and agility…Does a terrific job in pursuit and closes fast…Good strength…Great special teamer…Has a lot of upside.
Weaknesses:
Inexperienced…Marginal instincts and awareness…Still has a long way to go when it comes to technique…Not an elite pass rusher…Does not always use proper leverage…Aggressiveness?…Some character issues.
Notes:
Was a Top 100 recruit coming out of high school according to Rivals…Uncle, Ray Crockett, played 14 years in the NFL with Detroit, Denver & Kansas City and was a captain for the Broncos back-to-back Super Bowl teams…Began his college career as a running back and carried the ball 132 times for 625 yards (4.7 avg.) and 16 touchdowns in 2005 and 2006…Moved to defensive end in 2007 and took over a starting job in 2008…Served a three game suspension in 2007 after he was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated…Was overshadowed by Brian Orakpo but is a fine pro prospect in his own right…Isn’t a finished product but improved by leaps and bounds as a senior and has all of the physical tools that you look for…Underrated.

DE picks
I think JA and Lovie, really want the speed pass rush coming from the ends. That is what make or breaks the Tampa-2 system. Without that pass rush, the cover 2 gets picked apart. The problem is that Tampa-2 sux and a good QB will pick it apart regardless of pass rush. I hate Tampa-2!

anyone have analysis on Moore, yahoo sports is still blank for me
by Chitownproduct on Apr 26, 2009 12:20 PM CDT reply actions
The Good: Plays a lot bigger than his size indicates and isn’t afraid to stick his head in and make plays against the run. A impressive athlete with good straight-line speed and fluidity out of his back-pedal. Closes quickly on balls underneath and has the best first step of any corner in the class. Reads routes well and does a nice job undercutting the ball in space.
The Bad: Lacks great height and needs to add more muscle to his overall frame. Can be boxed out down the field and struggles fighting through bigger wide receivers when jumping routes.
Yahoo sports analysis:
A great value here for the Bears as they get an undersized corner who closes as well as any defensive back in the draft. Moore fell due to concerns about his speed, but he is an ideal fit in the Chicago Cover 2 scheme.
How is an undersized cover-corner an ideal fit for the Cover 2

draft countdown scouting report:
Strengths:
Extremely athletic…Good speed with a burst to close…Very quick and agile…Smooth with fluid hips…Terrific hands and ball skills…Good leaper…Nice instincts and awareness…Real opportunistic…Tough and tries to play physical…Dangerous runner with good vision in the open field…Lots of experience versus top competition…Superb return man.
Weaknesses:
Does not have the ideal height or bulk that you look for…Can be too aggressive and gambles a lot…A sub par tackler…Needs some work when it comes to technique and footwork…Has trouble getting a jam at the line…Just average recovery speed…Will struggle to match up with big wideouts…Doesn’t get off blocks real well…Durability is a concern.
Notes:
Was a three-year starter…Named 1st Team All-SEC in both 2007 and 2008…An Associated Press 2nd Team All-American as a junior…Dealt with an ankle injury that hampered him in 2008…Also saw extensive action at wide receiver for the Commodores…Capable of contributing as a punt and kick returner at the next level…A playmaker in the secondary who will make quarterbacks pay for their mistakes…Lack of size will limit his potential but could excel as a #2 or #3 cornerback.

Position specific traits
Recognition Skills/Toughness 1 Extremely instinctive in coverage and rarely gets caught out of position. Reads receivers routes quickly and gets a great jump on the ball as a result. Shows good awareness in zone coverage and does a nice job of baiting quarterbacks. Is not afraid to get his jersey dirty.
Closing Burst 3 A quick-twitch athlete and footwork is excellent. Smoothly transitions out of backpedal and shows above-average closing burst when the ball is thrown in front of him. Plays faster than 40 time indicates but there are concerns regarding his deep recovery speed.
Fluidity 1 Fluid and naturally flips hips when asked to turn and run with receivers. Elite ability to stop and start and does a sound job of mirroring receivers in man coverage.
Ball Skills 2 Natural hands and has experience lining up at receiver. Plays the ball extremely well and does a nice job of breaking up passes without getting flagged for pass interference. However, he isn’t tall enough to compete for jump balls working against bigger receivers. (See 1st quarter Georgia 2008).
Run Support 3 Is willing in run support and shows some toughness. But his tackling skills must improve, especially in the open field. Also slight concerns about ability to shed bigger receivers.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
Why Melton went ahead of a guy like this... well, I'll just have to see what happens

Strengths:
Huge frame with long arms…Great bulk…Outstanding strength…Very powerful…Tough and physical…Nasty and is a finisher…Gets a great push and can be a dominating run blocker…Is stout at the point of attack…Uses his hands well…Plays with good leverage and bends at the knees…Quick with decent mobility and range…Good awareness and instincts…Versatile…A lot of experience against top competition.
Weaknesses:
Can be a bit inconsistent…Not a great technician…Isn’t real light on his feet…Has lapses in concentration…Poor balance…Will get caught reaching at times…Will have some trouble with quicker defensive tackles…Work ethic has been questioned and tends to skate by on his natural ability…Little immature…Won’t be an ideal fit for every team.

+1
Couldn’t argue with any of those picks at this point. I’d still favor Robinson the most unless there is some issue with him no one in the media knows about.
Mayock just said the Robinson is dropping because of weight fluctuation and work-ethic concerns
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
its ok
Jay Cutler will whip into shape and give him a good work ethic

What's up with the FBs
Are there any good one’s left.
2 more picks!

I kinda liked Phillips with one of our 5ths

I think Meredith could be this years Carl Nicks
Highly regarded at the beginning of the draft, falls to the 5th, wins a starting o-line job.

checked it at halftime on my Tivo of the game.

Our next pick is the one from the Cutler trade
I sure would love for this to be some guy who becomes a longtime starter.
Just because it would be sweeter.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
absolutely!
Couldn’t agree more. At the time when I heard we got them to throw in 5th rounder I figured it was a “worthless” throw-in but looking at some of the players left on the board, I’ve totally changed my attitude.
Let’s see what JA does.
Just let it be someone I've heard of
You have to play this game like somebody just hit your mother with a two-by-four.
Its hard to get excited about a question mark.

Did anybody see this:
General manager Jerry Angelo tried to trade his second-round draft pick for Anquan Boldin, and when that didn’t work out, he traded the Bears right out of the first day of the draft.
The Bears were hoping Ohio State wide receiver Brian Robiskie would slip to them, and when he didn’t come close to making it to No. 49, they explored options to get out of the pick and found a willing trade partner in Seattle.

Sounds like
just that to see how interested Arizona was, and then they still wanted a first.

Damn, there are so many vaible options left on the board
I’d rather have James Casey over any WR available. He’s extremely versatile and could line up at WR or TE or H-back.

Johnny Knox
"A lot of fans were drawn to me because they knew that whatever the score was, I was going to run as hard as I could on every play. You don't have that now, you have guys waiting for next week or even next year." - Walter Payton
isn't johnny knox(ville)
an injury concern?

Thing on Moore:
He was projected as a good fit for teams that use the cover two scheme and he could challenge quickly at right cornerback where Nathan Vasher and Corey Graham are.

Yeah!!!
Another WR, Adios Rashid Davis!!!!!! BYAH!!
(Asshole Sr) "If you learn one thing here, NEVER pass out in Ohio."
Moore is Confident:
“I felt I was the best cornerback in the draft,’’ he said
Moore made the decision to leave school a year early but said he did so because he didn’t know what one more fall at Vanderbilt was going to do for him.
“I felt I was ready to go,‘’ he said. "I was in the best cornerback in the best conference playing against the best players. I didn’t think I was going to get too much better.’’

JA dear lord
does he know there is more than 3 colleges he can choose from?
Johnny Knox scout vid
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BNFsIp26RlY
Why I love this pick?
Knox plays special teams and can return which means Davis has to be gone IMO…
Denver just traded up for a South Carolina WR...
…who was just sorta… meh.
And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.
AHH chicago sports overload
trying to watch the halftime special on D Rose while also watching NFL network on the computer as they go over the bears draft picks. I was born with 2 ears but only one brain to process everything.
Scott wrights scouting report on Knox
Strengths:
Smooth athlete…Adequate height…Outstanding timed speed…Quick with great acceleration and a burst…Soft, reliable hands…Good body control and ball skills…Elusive…Nice vision and instincts…Solid route runner…Vertical threat who can really separate…Terrific production.
Weaknesses:
Doesn’t have the ideal bulk that you look for…Not very strong…Won’t break a lot of tackles…Trys hard but isn’t a great blocker…Worked as a return man but didn’t stand out…Is facing a big jump in competition.
Notes:
Started out at Tyler (TX) Junior College, where he was a 2nd Team All-American…Owns the ACU record for touchdown receptions…Was named 1st Team All-Lone Star Conference in 2007 and 2008…Had a strong showing at the Texas vs. The Nation all-star game (3 REC | 55 YDS | 1 TD)…Really caught peoples attention with his performance at the Scouting Combine…Intriguing speed and production…Profiles as a slot receiver at the next level and can also contribute on special teams.
I bet he's gonna suck.

Do we have a permanent scout at Abiline Christian?
I mean… seriously.

Question...
From NFL.com
“Negatives: Thin through the hips and legs. Gets a lot of his yardage after short routes, screens and swing passes. Lacks elite speed or quickness, but had enough to be special at the FCS level. Easily tripped up in the open field. Does not switch the ball to the outside hand. Despite his strong effort, he lacks the bulk and strength to be effective against NFL defenders. Dances and runs backward too much after the catch or on returns — will not get away with that at the next level.”
Didn’t he run the 3rd fastest 40 time at the combine and is known for his exceptional separation abilities?
If we're lucky as hell... we end up with a Lance Moore type of WR
But… realistically? Ugh. That’s why it’s round 5

Can anyone look up the scouting report of Brandon Marshall coming out of college?
I know he went to central florida and was picked in the fourth round.
Obviously my point is Jay Cutler could make Knox a star like he made Marshall.
But... Marshall is a large physical WR. 6'4" 230
Knox is 5’ 11" 185

Marshall had a draft grade of 70
Knox has a 65.
But comparing them is like comparing steve smith to randy moss.
How ironic that Meredith and Duke go back to back
