who will the starting receivers be with the addition of the draft?
I am wondering who we should start this upcoming season with the addition of 3 receivers in the draft. Being that we drafted Juaquin Iglesias and johnny knox, it makes for interesting possibilities. what do yo guys think? what should the order of receivers be this year. Ill tell you what I think.
1. Devin Hester ( I think he can pull off the number one spot this year with Cutler throwing to him and he has the whole offseason to work on his hands)
2. Earl Bennett ( I know he hasnt had a chance to play yet, but with Cutler being his former QB and the way he has been talked up this year, I think he can fill in the number 2 spot. )
3. Juaquin Iglesias ( We did just draft him today, but I watched some of the oklahoma games and he looks very promising. With his ability to hold onto the ball and not drop passes, he could fill in and run routes very well.)

I wouldn't be surprised if they gave
Rideau a shot. Bennett should do well, but if not I say Johnny Knox, kid flat out plays.
If you want to crown em...
Extraordinarily difficult to project the wide receiver play in 2009
Need to wait until training camp and see what develops. Hester is still a quite raw work in progress. Bennett is a big fat question mark until he proves otherwise. Davis is a known commodity who needs to significantly step it up or risk being cut. Iglesias and Knox are both in my view developmental projects who I won’t expect to contribute much in 2009.
Rideau is the one name that bears watching. I have a good feeling that he is going to nicely enter into the picture.

here's the thing about that
Unless a FA #1 receiever drops out of the sky before Opening weekend, Iglesias has no choice but to play this year. I mean unless the coaches just don’t think he belongs on the field at all then he will see time, and i believe he will see ample time. As far as Knox, he is quickly starting to become a fan favorite already lol, expect to see him some this year maybe also.
As far as Rashied, this is his last chance imo and i believe he knows it.

I'll paste this from my other post
Could go with 5 or 6 roster spots at WR… depending on the make-up of the roster.
Plus, we have so little friggin experience at the position, that I’m willing to go out and guarantee that we add a veteran somehow between now and July.
Right now it looks like this:
Locks
Devin Hester
Earl Bennett
Juaquin Iglesias
Competition
Rashied Davis (Hot seat)
Brandon Rideau
Johnny Knox
Derek Kinder
Devin Aromashodu
John Broussard
Bennett is a safe bet, because of draft status and Vandy connection with Cutler
Iglesias is a safe bet because of draft status
Davis is definitely on the hot seat, because of the drops, even though he’s a ST favorite.
If we add a veteran, and only go with 5 WRs… that would leave Davis to battle it out with the others for the 5th spot

It's a toss up.
Hester for sure, and then we have Rideau, Bennet, Iglesias, knox and I’m not going to leave out Davis.

I heard the Bears still have 20 million left for free agents.
going into Bulls playoff lock down..now!
I'll guess its going to be Hester, Iglesias, and Bennett
but Hester will be the deep threat outside WR, Iglesias as the other starter, and Bennett comes in when the Bears need a 3rd WR on the field. Rideau becomes the backup outside WR, and Davis will be the backup slot WR. Kinder and Knox will be relegated to the practice squad.
Is Marcus Monk still on the practice squad?

monk...
aparently, after getting cut by both ours and the giants practice squad, he decided to try a career in basketball… to my knowledge, that’s kinda where it stands.
Igleasis is the question mark...
Hester/Bennett/Rideau/Davis all know the offense now, but if history is any indicator Ingeasis may not see the field next year. As long as he can learn the offense though our 5 on roster barring a vet pick up would be Hester/Bennett/Rideau/Davis/Igleasis. If we pick up a veteran, as long as Igleasis does well I really see Davis getting the heave ho.
I think Iglesias is being counted upon to produce as a rookie.
Angelo has gone so far as to say they don’t have plans to add a veteran (which is rather disturbing to me).
Last year, they added Lloyd and Booker to replace Berrian and Moose. Because of that, Bennett was relegated as the backup at all 3 WR positions, and struggled learning all 3 playbooks.
Iglesias will come in be prepared as a starter, not a backup. And have less playbooks to learn.

Don't get me wrong...
I’d love for Davis to be sitting on the bench, or at the bus stop. However, it’s just very hard for me to imagine any rookie WR playing significant time for us, specially after seeing how we “develop” wide receivers.
I like Hester in the slot, but I doubt the Bears do that, and I expect Bennett to start at teh other receiver, Davis might be bye bye

Watch for Johnny Knox to send Rashied Davis back to the Arena League..
only since the AFL has disbanded..watch out for him counting tickets at Chuck E. Cheese this time next year. Mark my words..Knox is going to be the next Wes Welker.
