Boldin Trade Offer Rejected
This article says that Jerry Angelo offered his second-round draft pick to the Cardinals to pick up Boldin from the Cardinals. While this didn't work out, I'm glad that Angelo at least made the call and tried to bring in Boldin, this shows that he is really concentrating on winning now. While I think he probably could have tried to sweeten the pot by adding a veteran player, at least there was some effort. What do you guys think of this move?

lame effort
of course he should have tried to sweeten the pot. Boldin is better than any #49 pick the Cardinals would have made.
he tried thats all you can ask.
we just don’t have the resources because of the Cutler trade it would seem.
going into Bulls playoff lock down..now!
i'm confused
didn’t the cards drop the whole first and third round draft demand for a second rounder and other ‘considerations"? although i must admit that if we did get boldin, i’d probably start designing our superbowl ring right now!!! i, like many others, am holding out to see what bennett can do. people seem to forget that he came out early. not making any excuses for not seeing the field last year, but there is something to be said about the maturation process. plus, i don’t recall seeing much of manningham or sweed last year.
Cardinals were never going to trade Boldin
Certainly not for the #49 pick and other considerations. That’s just insane on all levels. There is story going around that neither Philadelphia or the NY Giants could pry Boldin away from Arizona despite offering their 1st round picks and other considerations as bait. So I’m leery therefore of Arizona’s legitimate interest in trading him.
Boldin may be an unhappy camper about not having his contract renegotiated, but fact is he is under contract to the Cardinals in 2009 and doesn’t have any options other than to shut his mouth and once again perform on the football field under Ken Whisenhunt.

I think the cardinals believe
that Boldin will not hold out or skip OTA’s. If he does, however, then they might really start to shop him.

Boldin will show up for Arizona's season
He may be unhappy that his contract isn’t being renegotiated (at least not yet anyways) but the bottom line is that he is under control of the Arizona Cardinals in 2009 whether he likes it or not. He can either forfeit tens of thousands of dollars by holding out during training camp, or he can suck it up and get back on the football field. Which I think he will do. Fact is he has limited leverage in all of this.

Randy Moss was traded a 4th round pick
Arizona is going to lose this guy and get nothing in return.
Disagree completely
Anquan Boldin is in the prime of his career and there has never been a question about his work ethic and commitment to producing on the football field. Boldin also has had zero run-ins with the law or other troubling dimensions in his background.
Boldin is under contract with Arizona. He’ll play there and like it until that point when his contract is up. At which point I assume the Cardinals will slap the franchise tag on him, meaning Boldin will see his salary launch into the stratosphere of the average top 5 salaries for wide receivers.

how...
… are they going to lose him?

They would get a compensatory draft pick...
which would undoubtedly be higher than the 4th round pick the Raiders got for Moss.
The Bears got a 3rd rounder for Berrian.

Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)
.
ah, forgot about that
if that is the case, arizona should keep him.
right...
… 2 more years before the lose him. I am pretty sure that the next 2 years of Boldin will be more valuable than the Bears’ second round draft pick.
If I were the Cardinals, I would definitely rather keep him for two years and then “lose” him rather than just get a second round draft pick.

you're right
but the only thing i’m thinking here is that a team doesn’t want a guy who is going to bitch and pout.
but for the sake of the deal in itself, no question you are right.
