Derek Kinder

While being a seventh round pick, I think that he can contribute immediatly. He was an all Big East selection in 2007 before tearing his ACL in 2008. Plus he had Tyler Palko as his QB, I really don't think of him as a stud. Plus, coming from Pitt, he basically already knows the offense and could be the next Marquis Colston.

Here are some highlights (all are relatively short):

he'll make a great practice squader

I’ll give you that

He's gotta compete with 6 guys for 2 roster spots

We’ll probably carry 5 WRs on the roster. If we don’t sign anyone else (a veteran after June cuts), here’s what the competition will look like.

Locks (top 3 spots)
1. Devin Hester
2. Earl Bennett
3. Juaquin Iglesias

Competition (bottom 2 spots)
4a. Rashied Davis (Hot seat)
4b. Brandon Rideau
5a. Johnny Knox – Draft pick
5b. Derek Kinder – Draft pick
5c. Devin Aromashodu – Practice Squad
5d. John Broussard – Practice Squad
5e. Eric Peterman – UDFA

The winner of that last spot will also have to be a contributor on special teams… which could be a deciding factor in the competition.

and the winners are...

Hester, Bennett, Iglesias, Rideau, Knox and Kinder. They keep 6.

It's gonna be very tricky to keep 6...

Another area of the team is gonna lose 1 spot… and it’s probably not gonna be on the D-line, or in the Secondary.

Would they go with only 2 TEs? I doubt it
Would they go with only 3 RBs? Possibly… dropping either Wolfe or Peterson. But, that hasn’t been how they’ve done things lately.
Would they drop a spot on the O-line? I don’t know… not after they’ve been re-building it in the offseason.

How does playing for Wannedstadt

make you believe he knows anything about any offense?

I don't mean just about our offense.

I mean about any offense period.

before his injury he was considered one of the top WR in college

Kinder

Exactly. Kinder was a stud WR before the injury, so the question is can he ever get back to what he once was? If he doesn’t, no loss as he was a late pick, but if he does, they got a steal.

Another slot receiver

Every WR on our roster, except perhaps Brandon Rideau, has scouting reports that suggest they best fit in working from the slot. Of course, some will have to adapt and play outside, but I wish they had a few that specialized in lining up on the outside.
Anyway Kinder and Knox should be able to unseat the practice squad guys and in a year or two make an NFL roster.

The interesting thing about Knox is his fantastic speed

And when Angelo commented on drafting him, he said for one, they couldn’t believe he was still on the board. But, he also said that a year or two ago, they probably wouldn’t have made a selection like that. However, with Cutler now in the picture, it altered their philosophy a little bit.

Cutler has the ability to extend the play and get the ball downfield, so adding a prospect like Knox, with home run speed was worth the selection to them. Will he make the roster? Who knows. But, I like the philosophy.

Kinder

Obviously does not have a lot of speed but seems like he could be a good number two. I knew nothing of him before this but he looks like an interesting prospect. I hope he makes the roster w/ Knox, but carrying six receivers seems unlikely. Last year we had five w/ Bennett being inactive for most games.

I want...

Rideau to start, along with Hester, Bennett, and Knox.
With Olsen and Dez, Forte…

  1. will have plenty of WR options.

Five bucks to the first guy who can spell Iglesias' name correct two times in a row...

Kinda funny the keen insight on Inglesias by the professional scouts on this board, yet nobody can spell his last name correct two times in a row. Or pronounce his first name on a bet.

ENOUGH with the "could be the next XXX" comparisons...

First I read that Mike Haas could be the next Wes Welker (imagine that, the Bears have WES WELKER stashed on the practice squad!!!!). Now I read Derek Kinder could be the next Marquis Colston.

Lets see what Kinder does on the football field. I’ll bet the ranch the Bears stash him on the PUP list in 2009.
