Bears Announce Jersey Numbers; Bennett Changes

Before we get to the jersey numbers, it is worth noting that Earl Bennett has changed his number from 85 to 80.

"Number 80 has so much tradition behind it with Jerry Rice and Cris Carter and those guys, and hopefully I can become one of those guys and be a legend like they were."

Star-divide

From the Chicago Bears official site:

The draftees will wear the following numbers, though some likely will change before the regular season: DL Jarron Gilbert (73), WR Juaquin Iglesias (17), DE Henry Melton (69), CB D.J. Moore (30), WR Johnny Knox (13), LB Marcus Freeman (58), S Al Afalava (46), G Lance Louis (60) and WR Derek Kinder (83).

Undrafted free agents will wear the following numbers: FB Will Ta’ufo’ou (45o), S Dahna Deleston (45d), CB Woodny Turenne (47), RB Tyrell Fenroy (48), LB Mike Rivera (59), G Johan Asiata (62o), LB Kevin Malast (62d), G Dennis Conley (70) and WR Eric Peterman (86).

Looks like the Louis as TE experiment

is already over per the suntimes:

When the Bears announced they had selected San Diego State’s Lance Louis in the seventh round Sunday, they called him a tight end.

It looks like they’re calling him something different three days later.

The Bears updated their Web site to add rookies numbers and positions and Louis has been assigned No. 60. He’s listed as a guard.

looks like the thought of bringing mike brown back is now officially an afterthought seeing as how they gave his number away…

Well tell the bears

To give him a chance to catch the ball.

Earl Bennett… Please catch a pass in the NFL before you talk about becoming a legend… Thanks

Maybe he is trying to get an early jump on a nickname.

:)

I'm all for sarcastically throwing about that nickname during the preseason

Let’s see if “Legend” Bennett can actually start a game this year.

Insert clever and witty remark slash pun here!

shame to see #83 taken, I was holding on to a small hope that Mike Hass would be available on the practice squad again, oh well

Some guys having "number shoes" to fill

Moore wearing Mike Brown’s 30 and Alfalfa (I am too lazy to spell his name properly until he makes the roster) wearing Plank’s 46. Hopefully these guys can play like those two and us fans can forgive them wearing well-respected old Bears numbers.
Chris Harris earned his 46 by being a hard hitter in my book.

I was hoping that one of the new guys would take #32, getting rid of all previous associations with that number would be good

Yes, wear it but earn it.

Hopefully they do just that. Why the hell we let Chris Harris go is beyond me. I love hitters like that. 46 was a good # for him.

For a while

My Dad thought Ron Rivera gave him that number because the way he hit reminded him of Plank.

Wow

so Mark Bradley wore 16 and now Iglesias wears 17?

Trippy.
