Giants cut Burress, should we go after him?
Giants GM Jerry Reese cut Burress today, likely not wanting his legal status not wanting to interfer with bulding the Giants recciving core. The question does is should Angelo get our new franchise QB this toy to play with.
Obviously, given Burress legal and likely NFL displine issues there is a chance he wont be allowed to play next year. However, the Giants did look like another team without him and there is no doubt that he is still a bona fide number 1 WR in this league. The game he had in the 2008 NFC championship game showed his level of play can stay conisent even in the worst weather conditions imaginable.
On a day where the game time temp was -1F, Plex got 11 grabs for 154 yards. Given his legal status, he wont require a big contract and we could still grab a WR in the second round and just cut Rashied Davis if/when Burress is allowed to play. Torry Holt's agent today seemed downplay Holt wanting to come here and if he does not want to there is not an option in Free Agency or the draft for us to come in and be a number 1 WR on day one so why not just take the gamble?
Also did the Cutler trade set the market on young Probowl skill players? Arizona has been said to want atleast a 1st and 3rd for Anquan Boldin and the Browns would likely want the same thing if they decide to part ways with Braylon Edwards. The Giants have bulked at theat price and using maybe welcoming Burress back as leverage aganist giving that much up.
But now that the Browns and Cardinals have this precident that a 1st and 3rd is now the going price for a 25/26 year old stud, did the Giants just decide that this what they have to pay so they just decided to part ways with Burress now that he had no use for him now that they cant use him to lower other teams trade demands for a new number 1 WR.

No
because he’s probably going to jail. And when he gets out, he’ll have to deal with the wrath of Goodell.
The shortest distance between two points is under construction.

Just reading your title alone...
No. Next topic.
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious. (Vince Lombardi)
Dude, for serious? 1986 was 23 years ago.
Can we drop it?

Ask again after his sentence and after Goodell gets to hand out his punsihment.

If Plax wants to spend 23 months in jail
Then let him talk it over with Goodell and try to avoid punishment. Vick is paying his dues and then some.

lets think about this
Vick viciously murdered dogs in cold blood with his own hands. Burress viciously in cold blood shot himself in the leg (Still Shaking my head on this one). I think that Goodell will definately dish out some sort of punishment for both Vick and for Buress.

he should
but if Vick doesn’t receive a suspension, then nobody should ever..

sure, and Ray Lewis should be in jail.
Why should Vick be triple punished. Goodell is suspending guys when the law doesn’t jail them. Vick’s been in prison, going through bankruptcy…sure what he did is morally and legally corrupt, but he’s been severely punished already.
How about a little forgiveness?

Was Burress "suspended" last Fall or just out due to the injury?

I disagree
Vick is paying his dues in prison and then with his financial troubles. You are saying that someone who cheats in the game and takes steriods to gain an unfair advantage on the playing field should not face suspension because Mike Vick was involved in a dog fighting ring (this being on the premise he does not get suspended)? I think your logic is a little off. I do not believe Vick deserves a suspension. I think that there are plenty other reasons an individual should merit a suspension, many that are much worse than dog fighting.

I doubt he get's any either
just as long as he doesn’t get into trouble after he gets out. Most of the punishments Goodell hands out is for players who have broken the law but haven’t done any jail time. As long as he did his time and continues to improve himself I don’t see Goodell placing anymore kind of puhishment.
It’s like the players who he does punish keep getting into trouble but don’t get into big trouble by the law so Goodell punishes them so he can say “see we are trying to stop this”. With Vick it will be “you guys already stopped him by sending him to jail.”

I´d prefer
a Braylon Edwards or Boldin but Burress is a legit #1. I cant imagine Angelo wanting to take on Burress with his questionable character.

Yes, just make the contract reflect the realities of possible jailtime and suspension.
This is a no-brainer, right? Orlando Pace (I don’t care how old he is), Jay Cutler and Plaxico Burress… could this become a real offense almost literally overnight?

Agreed
I did not mean to give off the impression that I wanted to sign for guarnteed long term money. I was thinking along the lines of 1 year deal that gets voided if goes to jail or is suspended.

I don't know what the right contract situation is.
I have no clue what you offer him, what you negotiate at, what you agree. I just think it’s foolish, w/ the recent moves, if the Bears aren’t at least thinking about it. You have to hope Devin Hester is a “legit” No. 2 WR and Earl Bennett or Rashied Davis is a legit No. 3 WR. Olsen and Clark are awesome TE’s. Forte is great as a receiving RB and good as a running RB. If they bring in Burress and simply “get lucky”* with an OG in the draft, they’re a Top-10 offense just like that.
They must inquire. That’s all I want. I don’t want to see a quote that says they “have no interest.”

No Way
We got rid of our convicts already, don’t need a stupid one that shoots himself in the leg, that would not sit good with a lot of people.

What people?
The fans? Who gives a damn what they think? This is about winning football games, not pleasing people.

Signing Plax would make JA look like a Hypocrite
They released Tank for having unregistered guns. Benson for drinking and Boating and drinking and driving. If JA signs someone who shoots himself inside a club risking innocent lives then he would lose all his crediblity. Cowboys take risks with convicts, Bears in the JA era do not.
