Bears to put Georgia WR Massaquoi through private workout
The Bears are continuing their search for a wide receiver and will head to Athens, Ga., next week to work out Georgia wide receiver Mohamed Massaquoi next week.
Massaquoi is a big receiver at 6-2, 210 pounds, and he performed well at his pro day last month, running the 40-yard dash between 4.47 seconds and 4.53 seconds depending on the watch. His broad jump is 10-7, and he's considered a high character guy as a captain for the Bulldogs. Massaquoi and North Carolina's Hakeem Nicks, another player the Bears are interested in, were high school teammates.
I do not like this at all. Hopefully the Bears don't draft him, he reminds me of Freddie Mitchell.

"Strengths: Solid height … Very athletic when the ball is in the air; shows ability to adjust … Excellent quickness … Good timed speed … Shows a little upside.
Weaknesses: Horrendous route runner … Not tough and scared to go over the middle … Terrible hands and drops passes … Pathetic production statistically until late in his senior year (with one of the best quarterbacks in the country) … Scrawny frame … Does not show anything in terms of YAC despite great athleticism … Did not improve much over college career in terms of technique … Does not play hard … Does not attack the football … Does not show a love for the game on the field … Not going to block.
Summary: I think anyone who rates this player as a second- or third-round guy needs to get a CAT scan. He has no football skills. He really did not produce until late in his senior year, and that is too late for me considering he has a top-three draft pick at quarterback. Outside chance he gets drafted in Rounds 3 or 4 (hey, if Jerome Simpson can go in round 2…), but I would not even spend a draft pick on him. He does not show many football skills. Massaquoi has bust written all over him.
Player Comparison: Freddie Mitchell. I will be completely shocked if Massaquoi lasts more than three years in the league, or does anything statistically. "
Wow, that’s the worst scouting report i’ve ever seen.
DEJESUS!!!
Wow... awful.
Like I said in another post… if the Bears want to to draft a WR, they should invite all of them to Halas Hall for a private workout, and have them play catch with Cutler.
Then, let Cutler decide who’s the best of the bunch… because the Bears are normally clueless.
A couple weeks ago, the Ravens had Joe Flacco throwing passes to Darrius Heyward-Bey.
"You win because of the quarterback. We have to get that position stabilized. We're fixated on that." -- Jerry Angelo (12.30.2008)
Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)
.
Sounds good
But I’m pretty sure you can’t do workouts at the NFL teams facilities. If we bring them to Halas Hall it’s for interviews and physicals. If we want to work them out we have to go to their school. Obviously taking Flacco from Baltimore to the Maryland Campus is not a big deal, but do we really want Cutler flying around the country to work out potential picks?

PFT
says his stock is rising as high as any other receiver in the draft and could make it into the 2nd

Scott Wright's Draft Countdown
has a much more optimistic scouting report:
Strengths:
Excellent athleticism…Has the height you look for…Great speed and quickness…Long arms…Pretty good hands…Has shown the ability to make the difficult catch…Terrific ball skills and body control…Very tough and is not afraid to work the middle…Elusive and can do some damage after the catch…Knows how to get open….Productive with lots of experience against elite competition…Hard worker and solid leader.
Weaknesses:
Drops have been a problem in the past…Doesn’t play as fast as he times…Is not a great route runner…Has a thin build…Goes down easy and won’t break tackles…Not very strong…Durability may be an issue.
Notes:
Last name is pronounced “MASS-a-qwah”…The son of Liberian immigrants…A very highly-regarded recruit coming out of high school…Was basically a four-year starter in the SEC…Took talented freshman A.J. Green under his wing and mentored him…Had the best season of his career as a senior…Probably not quite the prospect Reggie Brown was coming out of college but is a similar type of player.
3 star prospect, 2-3 round

99th pick
If none of the WO’s worth a 2nd round pick are there at 49, then I don’t want to reach for one. But if we don’t get a WO there, I think we have to take one at 99. With that pick I would take Massaquoi or Murphy or Barden. I would like someone with some height.
