The Bears Den - 4/30/09
....where we're happy that Vinny Del Negro isn't the coach of the Bears.
In The Den
Chicago Sun-Times
No more debates about Lance Louis's position on the Bears: They gave him #60 and have him listed as an OG.
Official Chicago Bears Site
Jerry Angelo isn't worried about Moore being too short to play in the NFL. I hope not....he just drafted the guy.
The Bears assigned numbers today, and Earl Bennett changed his number from 85 to 80. Why? I'll let him explain:
"Number 80 has so much tradition behind it with Jerry Rice and Cris Carter and those guys, and hopefully I can become one of those guys and be a legend like they were."
Gotta learn the playbook first, stud.

No and No
I think it’s real this time. Late last season Farve was clearly not at the level he has been in the past. For the first time I remember he was UNDER throwing receivers. Farve does not do that. He knows he’s done.

WOW!
Can you imagine if Favre went to the Vikings? think about the headlines, Favre Vs. the Rodgers and the Packers; Payback
Favre Vs. Cutler: Passing Of The Torch or Shootout in Lambeau
Cutler Vs. Rodgers; the Next Generation

For the first time ever
he was hurt.
I think he’s done… and hope he’s done. I like SportsCenter and would like to NOT have the manufactured drama this year.

Brett Farve would make the Vikings the best team in the NFC
he Has what it takes to make WRs good just like Cutler. and with that O-line and AP in the backfield, the NFC north would be decided. I don’t know If he’s coming back or not, but I know I wouldn’t be surprised if he does. If he does, the NFC north is instantaneously the best division in the league with Favre, Rodger, Cutler, and the number one overall pick in matthew Stafford.

But no offense to Stafford
I really think Daunte Cullpepper is going to have a renaissance this season.

Gotta learn the playbook first, stud.
Be fair! He spent the whole of last year learning it! :)
by Spongie on Apr 30, 2009 6:14 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
To be fair, he spent last year learning every positions playbook not just one like most people.
Also, I think it was more him being a rookie WR that kept him on the bench than not knowing the playbook. Hester might have known 5 plays 2 years ago and he was still on the field.

Last year’s was simplified to: “Go deep, draw pass interference penalty”

Ok I love that play !

different positions don't have different playbooks
1 team 1 playbook. inside this1 playbook are a bunch of plays. each play is diagrammed to show each players assignment. Its not that he had to learn 3 different playbooks it was he was unable to grasp the roles/assignments of the receivers in the playbook. for example if the/(a) playbook has 100 plays he was asked to learn the 1 hundred plays and be able to play 1 of 3 assignments… not learn 300 different plays. Seems to me like he was simply asked to know not only his route but also the routes of the other receivers on any given play. This shouldn’t be too hard for a wr… but it was for Bennett.
The fact that Bennett had a tough time learning the playbook last year needs to stop being used as a reason why he is going to play well next year. As if this year he finally grew a brain. Maybe his raw talent is good enough for Cutler and him to succeed on playground type plays, but if that is the case learning the playbook wouldn’t have mattered in the first place. Until I see Bennett actually do something he a a scrub in my mind and definitely does not deserve to be the Bears #2 receiver. Screw that its not even about what he deserves or what people want to be the case… I am telling you right now that if the season starts today Rashied Davis beats out Bennett to start opposite Hester as our #2

I hope you're wrong...
If I were Angelo/Lovie, I’d cut Davis before camp started just in case they’re too tempted to make him a starter ahead of anybody. What an embarassment that would be to admit that he’s better than anyone you’ve drafted. I don’t want to hear about how hard he’s worked in the off-season, or how much faster he is, or stronger, or anything else like that, HE CAN’T CATCH. In fact he’s the only person in the area who shouldn’t be concerned about this whole Swine Flu thing because he probably couldn’t catch that either!!! So unless he has contracted some rare disease that makes Velcro grow out of his hands, let’s move on from Rashied.

Yes they do.
Each WR runs a different route and from my understanding he was learning every single WR route for every play, that way we could fill him in wherever.

Funny
BearFan611 that was funny stuff. I just got off work and I’m a little tired and when i read that I busted out laughing. Thanks

Unfortunately it's true
It will only be funny until someone loses an eye from one of the many passes that bounce of his hands during practice.

Have you guys discussed getting Julius Peppers?
Does he not make the Bears insta-legit…. save for the “lack of a safety” thing?

Yeah
we did awhile back. No question his addition would make this defense a force again. But I dont’ see how we get him now. We don’t have a 1st round pick til 2011 and I’m sure the Panthers would like at least a 1st for him.

And if we give up the 2011 1st for anyone
I would hope it’s for Boldin.

I dunno. Just reading through the situation...
…he’s owed $16 million next year, and I can’t see anyone willing to pay someone that for a single year. I could see it if they front-loaded the guaranteed money and knew they’d have him at $6 million for the next few years or something.
So, if Peppers ever signs, Carolina wouldn’t be in a strong position at the trading table. They’d be relying solely on the market and the teams competing to get him to get the best deal possible.
OTOH, Carolina did pay him $14 million last year and say they’re willing to pay it this year.
So, okay, bad idea.

I agree
Contracts can kill a deal. Peppers is due a king’s ransom and that should be taken into consideration. I forgot he was franchised actually. The Panthers risk losing him if they can’t work out a deal with him and they don’t trade him. I guess they could keep franchising him if they can’t work out a deal.

I have a feeling the panthers are gonna remove the franchise tag on Peppers
they basically spent a first and second rounder on Everette Brown. I don’t think just so he can come in on special situations.

If they do that, he's a free agent, right?
And the team that has the dolla-bills and the need still has a chance.
And he hasn’t signed the franchise tag because he still has some control in the situation. He can’t just go sign w/ another team as long as the franchise tender is out there, but the Panthers can’t trade him until he does, meaning, he gets to talk to any team about an extension and they can explore “trade options”, but they have to do it where he wants.
What I read (and sorry, it was about four or five different write-ups so I don’t have a link), is that he will plan on signing the tender at the deadline (assuming the last week before the real season), forcing them to either put him in with no practice setting a “bad precedent” or sitting a $16 million man to teach a lesson, or trade him for pennies on the dollar.
My guess right now? He signs the week before and they play him all he wants.

or also do what you said.
either remove the tag and let him go for nothing, or let him sign it and act like nothing bad ever happened.
