Why Not Scrap The Draft Entirely And Go After

Braylon Edwards?

This is from Nfldraftcountdown.com's chat on 3/25:

7:47 [Comment From Vin in NJ]
Do you see the G-Men pulling a trade for Braylon Edwards or another veteran WR, or will they end up drafting one?
7:48 Scott Wright:  My old buddy Vin!

If the Giants can get Braylon Edwards for a 2nd, 5th and Steve Smith they should make the deal and run.   He is exactly what they need.

Star-divide

Why don't the Bears trade their 2nd round pick (49th overall) and our 4th round pick (119th overall) and someone for Braylon?  If a 2nd (45th overall) and a 5th (151st overall) and Steve Smith will get him (I know, only speculatively), why not up our 5th to our 4th and throw in someone else to get Braylon?

I'd think about trading urlacher

for either picks or a star receiver.

I wouldn't

Urlacher to the Bears is like Ray Lewis to the Ravens. He should retire as a Bear, that is unless he wants to play into his 40’s.

Really?

I guess I don’t see it. He misses tackles and can’t shed blocks. Im not saying he sucks but that he really has lost a step so why not unload him now while he has value around the league?

Then move Briggs to the middle?

use the picks for defense or a WR like Boldin.

I agree

To me, he’s playing more on reputation than anything else.

Let's not start up

the Briggs to the middle nonsense. Here’s why:
OK talk all you want about Urlacher being traded. We all know it Ain’t gonna happen. The cover-2 system requires three big components to operate, a defensive tackle that can play the three-technique, a free safety that can support the run and drop in to coverage, but most importantly, a weakside linebacker who can defend against the screen.

“Typically, the [Tampa 2] players don’t have the prototypical size of other NFL defenders. Instead, stress is put on speed, smarts and flawless tackling. A quick defensive line is a must, but the middle linebacker position is the straw that stirs the drink. "

Right. Because that's certainly more important than winning games.

I mean, winning games? P’shaw! It’s like, history, man.

Horrible idea.

We need those picks to land a safety… a guard… a tackle… a WR… a DE… a LB.
