Reggie Williams

Exonerated of the DUI charge (ugh, can NFL players just stay out of trouble?), RW would not be a bad option.

He's a talented WR, and though his numbers have never been much, being on a new team could work,

Burress is going to jail, but if not he is still not worth the extra circus. With Cutler being so closely scrutinized our WRs and everyone else cannot be having anything for media to nibble on!

The Bears have to find a possession WR in the draft, Bennett has to improve (how hard is that, with 0 catches as a rookie) with his college QB now his pro partner, and then they need a serviceable veteran.

Holt is out. Drew Bennett would be nice but could want $$$.

Reggie Williams, Amani Toomer, Jerry Porter, Darrell Jackson, Dane Looker...these are all more likely than the T.O.s and Burresses of the world (though I thought T.O. should have been a target).

Bennett, Toomer, and Porter have nothing left in the tank

I believe Darrell Jackson could not make the Broncos out of camp last year, so being paired with Cutler is not going to revive his career. Dane Looker was never anything special. If Williams agrees to a Brandon Lloyd type deal, I would do it. However, you forgot to include the most intreging name of the “B” level free agents and that is DJ Hackett. Also I doubt the media will heavily scrutinze Cutler this year as everyone knows he is playing with inferior WR talent in an inferior offensive scheme.

"Also I doubt the media will heavily scrutinze Cutler this year as everyone knows he is playing with inferior WR talent in an inferior offensive scheme."

Do you live in Chicago? They scrutinized the crumbs in Orton’s neckbeard. This is to say, there are no excuses for Cutler in the eyes of the media.

Hackett

I said it in another post. He could probably be had for the minimum as no teams have shown interest in him. The kid has size and talent if he can stay on the field and it wouldnt break the bank to get him. At the very least he provides some depth.

I was going to drive the Reggie Williams bandwagon... but.

He got busted for marijuana on the eve of free agency. Douche. He may face a possible suspension for games next year. However, his market vlaue is way low, and can be had for very little.

What I like about him: He entered the league at young age… so he’s already got 5 years of NFL experience (something we sorely lack at the position). And he turns just 26 next month. He’s got great size (6’4" 212), and is a good athlete, making for a big target. He hasn’t always gotten good separation, but with Cutler extending the play… he’s bound to get open.

His best asset to the Bears, besides experience, is his willingness to block in the running game. That’s muy importante for this team, and none of our current WRs make any impact in the run game.

For the record...

If the Texans end up cutting Jacoby Jones this summer… I want him to become a Bear. Maybe we can make something out of him. Heck of an athlete. The Texans may be close to giving up on him.

+1

my nephew brought up a good point in another FanPost. We should swap picks in the third and get Ramses Barden. this guy Is tall and can win the jumpball with just about anyone. he’s very agile and quick. reminds me of Plax. That should allow us to draft defense in the second

Yeah

in that post I left a scouting report of Barden on there. I also had read the Raiders were looking at Barden with the 8th pick in the 2nd round which i thought would be a bit of a stretch for him.

Love the HIghlights

Kid is good after the catch. And he stays in bounds trying to get more yards, doesnt seem to scared to take a hit. The scouting report mentioned a lack of running good routes which could be due to his playing at Cal Poly. Only prob is, are the bears Offensive coaches good enough to teach him how to run routes correctly.

I like it...

Bring him in (or anybody in for that matter) and let Jay Cutler make him look better than he is… like he did for Eddie Royal, Brandon Marshall, and Tony Scheffler.

UFA's

Here are just a few of the UFA’s that are available and could be immediate assests to the Bears.

Tory Holt – St Louis
Marvin Harrison – Indianapolis
Ashley Lelie – Oakland
Miles Austin – Dallas
Ronaldd Curry – Oakland
Mike Furry – Detroit

Full list of FA WR’s go to ESPN

And they are all

Crap, except Holt. I wouldnt want any of them. Id take my chances on a cheap DJ Hackett for the league minimum. He could add depth and if healthy is still young and very talented. I say for a cheap addition he would be a bargain.

Did you...

just call Marvin Harrison crap?

He isn’t what he used to be, but he certainly isn’t crap. He is a better receiver, even at his age, then any of the Bears receivers.

by sirus19x on Apr 4, 2009 4:15 PM CDT up reply actions

why yes,

yes I did. You have witnessed his last two seasons correct. I mean his age has hit him quickly. He needs to hang it up.

Yes I have, have you?

I’m not saying he is as good as he used to be, but having some injury issues and lining up with Reggie Wayne would make any 30+ receiver look unproductive.

by sirus19x on Apr 4, 2009 6:51 PM CDT up reply actions

Hes Pushing 40

and its begun to show. Its not just him lining up next to Wayne. He has, like I said, begun to age and age quickly. Id rather have Booker back then sign Harrison.

Pushing 40?

Crap that means Devin Hester, at 26 years old, is pushing 30!

You can have Booker for Harrison… Glad your not the general manager.

by sirus19x on Apr 4, 2009 10:27 PM CDT up reply actions

Hes got nothing

left in the tank. And a 37 year old whos body is breakin down like Harrisons might as well be pushing 50. Glad your not the GM too. Cause lets just go by name recognition and not pay any attention to how hes played the last couple years. Playing next to Wayne isnt a valid argument for his lack of production. Hes still got Peyton throwin the rock. Everyone else on the team catches balls. Anthony Gonzales has stepped in and stolen Harrisons job cause he was able to make plays and Harrison isnt half the receiver he was 3 years ago. The proof is in the pudding.

Re-read these posts

I never said I’d sign him to the Bears. I personally don’t think he’d be a good fit. But I did say he is better than of the receivers the Bears have, because he is and his 2008 stats prove.

Oh yea… Good Call saying Gonzales stole his job. I do believe Harrison had more catches and TD’s then Gonzales did this season.

The proof is in the pudding.

by sirus19x on Apr 5, 2009 12:51 AM CDT up reply actions

Well they obviously

have no need to re-sign him cause of Gonzales production. I think its obvious to them that given the starting job and the added reps he will be more productive then Marvin has been recently. Look you dont like my opinion on Harrison, fine but theres no need to be a Douche.

Hey now...

No need for name calling, I know it sucks to be proven wrong…

I believe this all started because you called a bunch of players Crap. A real sound analysis of one of the most productive receivers in NFL history. If you had put some effort into your initial reply and just stated your argument with his decline in production, then I would have respected your opinion. Yet you resorted with a simple “They are all Crap”, just like you resorted to saying I’m being a “Douche” for giving you facts that prove your theories to be inaccurate. Your opinion is fine, but I was defending the fact that you like to bash a bunch of players you obviously no nothing about.

by sirus19x on Apr 5, 2009 9:02 AM CDT up reply actions

Hey now...

no need for mocking me then. Just cause a guy is one of the best ever doesnt mean he still is. IMO he will be crap next season. He is declining quickly. Proven wrong, when? Where are the facts? And no im not a “basher” of players. I dont think any of them would be good for us. Im sorry, you know everything about all players and Im a measley little piss ant who knows nothing.

Williams

Nicest thing about this kids is that he’s an eager and physical blocker. Not a small consideration.

He’s limited as a receiver, but he does some things you like.

And the prevailing wind happens to be blowing from Vichy.

What Harrison and Holt offer

Harrison is a hall of famer no doubt no one can give me a reason other wise. Harrison can still contribute atleeast 50 catchs but what he would offer would be his precise route running and ability mentor guys likes hester and bennet esp hester. Torry holt still can be a number one he had on bad year and correct me if im wrong he set the league record with seven year of atleast 1300 yrds receving it was broken last year on a terrible team and now that we have cutler tis could sway holt to chi city over tenn. just like the cutler deal brought pace to us instead of bmore

Reggie Williams is a manchild

There was an incident a few years ago. The Bulls were killing the Knicks, scrubs were playing out the clock, and the fans were screaming at them to score 100 points for free Big Macs. They took a ton of shots, Knicks took offense and they tried to fight some Bulls players.

I know

nobodys been to this post all day and nobody will see this comment, but Reggie Williams was arrested Sunday night by two off duty police officers when he refused to leave a bar. Got tazed on his way out, and oops forgot he had a bag of coke in his pocket. Does he ever play football again? oh and no I dont want him on the Bears either.
