Orton to the Broncos?

Im a regular poster on the behindthesteelcurtain.com which is a steelers blog just like this one.  I posted this a couple of days ago their and it doesnt seem to be getting much attention.  So here are some of my thoughts regarding your big time trade.  I'd love to here what you guys have to say.

There are some serious questions that need to asked and will be answered this season about this big time trade.  How will the lesser known QB play this season in Denver?(Im assuming Orton will start for the Broncos) What will the Broncos do with the two picks they received this season?  How will the Bears do this season after adding Cutler?

Ive always been a little bit of a fan of Kyle Orton.  In his rookie season he came in and won 11 games very unspectacularly.  Not to shabby for a guy picked pretty late in the draft.  He came in and managed the games, he handed the ball off more than he passed it but thats what teams do when they have the luxury of good running games and good defences.  This past season he actually played quite well, he threw for nearly 3000 yards and had 18 TD passes with a rating of 79.  By my limited analysis of him he is simply an average QB, not special but also not bad.  If he has a good team around him he should do just fine.  He also had average stats and production playing for a team with no real receiving threats.  Now in Denver he has some weapons in Brandon Marshall and Eddie Royal, and I almost forgot Brandon Stokley.  I am very curious to see how he does this season with a decent running game, a solid Oline and a very good receving corps.  My guess is that he plays pretty well, at least he will improve on his most reason season.  Maybe a season of 20+ TDs and 3000+ yards is in the mix.  Remember what McDaniels did with Cassel, if anything Orton has more experience and has some great weapons of his own.  I think Orton has the chance to have a very productive year in Denver and if he does it will make Mcdaniels and the whole Denver team look like geniuses for getting a capable QB and three high draft picks for the disgruntled Cutler.

Now it comes down to the Bears and Jay.  Are the Bears going to be any better than last year and is Cutler going to be a noticeable improvement over Orton.  I personally think Cutler is going to have some trouble getting much done through the air this season with Devin Hester and Greg Olsen being his best receivers.  I think his biggest chance at success would be to hope Forte is a real beast next season so teams are forced to stack the box with eight men, which will open up the passing game and especially the deep ball.  This season he will have the luxury of a much better defence though, the Broncos had a brutal defence and the only reason they one any games last year was due to Jay and his offence.  Last season he also slumped huge down the stretch when all he had to do was win one of those last couple of games.  He did not and they did not make the playoffs.  In fact he only had a passer rating of 7 better than Orton at 86 to 79.  And orton was doing it with no receiving threats and a run first offence.  I know passer rating is everything but is a 7 better rating worth two first rounders and a third.  All I am trying to say here is Orton is a capable QB and isn't that much of a downgrade from Cutler.  Personally I dont see the Bears being all that much better this season.  Actually crazily enough the Bears won more games last year than the Broncos, 9 to 8.

The Broncos should look to shore up that defence with their draft this season.  Their defence was horrible last year, the team gave up a total of 448 points, second to only Detroits 517.  They were horrible against the run and not much better against the pass, despite having Champ and Dre Bly.  But its hard to stop anything when your worried about getting burned by something else.  Basically they need to take some of the best defencive players available to them.  They might also look to add a quality young QB to add some competition to the mix of Orton and Ramsey and compete to be there future long term starter.  In fact if I was Mcdaniels I would take a serious look at Byron Leftwich, Jeff Garcia, JP Losman and try to sign the best one.  In my opinion at this point in their careers it would probanly be Leftwich who has pretty much always played well and been productive and deserves to compete for playing time.
