Apparently Cutler is our new recruiter as well
I just read that Cutler has contacted Plaxico "self-inflicted" Burress. According to a report attributed to Zaidman of The Score, Cutler texted Burress that they could use him in Chicago. I'm not able to find the original story to verify it.
I realize how talented Burress is, but I really don't think they will consider bringing him in. At least I hope not. He has been an absolute headache since his days in Pittsburgh. Even ignoring the criminal issues, he's never been a team guy. After the issues with Tank Johnson, I just can't imagine they would sign a guy facing gun charges, even if he pleads out. I realize the potential of a Cutler/Burress threat, but I just don't think it's worth it.

I think after this
Plax will be a changed man and see the error of his ways. Screwing up to the extent where he might miss an entire year of playing SHOULD show him how much of a jackass he’s been and force him in the right direction. He had a loaded gun in a club, not the worst crime in American history. I think if he had the intent of shooting somebody it would have happened, instead he shot himself. If I’m not mistaken, the only reason he’s even in trouble is b/c he didn’t have a license for the gun right?

I'm not positive
But I believe they’re hitting him with discharging a firearm also. My concern is more with his on-the-field issues, like the fact that he always seems to have an injury that keeps him from practicing, but manages to overcome the pain to play on Sundays. That’s been a constant problem with him, which is part of the reason he butts heads with Coughlin so often. I know game-time is supposedly all that matters, but I think that crap can really divide a locker room.

True
He obviously thinks he’s above the team and if Coughlin couldn’t change him I doubt Lovie could. On the other hand, he did come through in the clutch for the Giants on more than one occasion.

Absolutely he did
But, would the Giants have won the SB this year with Plax? I’d bet yes.

He also
got pulled over a couple weeks ago for speeding and crossing multiple lanes of traffic, dropped F bombs on the officer who pulled him over, and told the cop he’d have him fired if he didn’t let him go.
That doesn’t sound like a changed man to me.
Burress has never, ever shown any hint that he was changed, or in the process of changing.

Yep
I see nothing positive coming out of Plaxico coming to Chicago. I’d be willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, but the most recent incident with the police shows that he’s not even remotely close to bettering himself. I’ll take a pass.

Yeah but...
guns normally have a safety and you have to pull the trigger for that to happen. I guess he should be happy it was his leg and not somewhere else.
And I’d hope he’d point the gun down, that be pretty retarded to have it facing up.

I don't know
I think our locker room can handle Plax. They are all a little crazy from Uralcher, Briggs, and Alex Brown and they keep each other in check; sorta.
And Lovie has that fatherly way that you want to work harder for him. The Giants coach is a strict kind of guy. Whe you have a rebellious personality you want to just act up everyonce and awhile. The Steelers coach seemed strict as well.

Plax
Sign him to a short term deal. He seems to really overstay his welcome, ala T.O., if he’s there too long. Obviously, if he’s going to jail put some sort of stipulation in the contract regarding that. I don’t give a Rashied Davis about his off field issues, the guy’s a great WR.

I have to imagine though
that Goodell gives him at least a 4 game suspension. Would it be worth only having him around for a partial season? Would he be able to practice with the team during his suspension?

He's not getting any long-term deal anyway...
with his history, and his age (32 in August)… who would want him for 4 years?

Plaxico is facing prison time and a Goodell suspension
For all intents and purposes his NFL career is OVER. Maybe in a few years when he is released from prison he can convince a team to give him a tryout. But the odds of that are long.
by BLou on Apr 7, 2009 1:57 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
he won't be in for a few years
from what i read he could get out of prison before the season is over and only a suspension would keep him from playing.

I've read he'll be getting about 6 months hopefully
How the hell it goes from a min. of 3-5 years to six months baffles me. Guess bein famous DOES have it’s upsides.

He has all the characteristics to be another Plax or T.O. At least we will get him fresh out of the draft and maybe mentor his attitude.

Don't care
how stupid he is. The guy would instantly upgrade our receiving core and be the most dangerous offensive weapon we have (sorry 23 and 22 but it’s true). I think the only question about whether or not to pursue him is if he is really going to do jail time and Goodell’s response. There doesn’t seem to be any sort of consensus about this. I’ve seen 3 years to 3 months. Seems odd to get 3 months for pleading out of this. I realize guns are dangerous and yes he was stupid for carrying in a club. But I had a buddy who got jumped by three guys, cracked his skull and broke a couple ribs and those guys got probation. Plax is gonna do time for shooting himself? Regardless, I say sign him, he gets a prorated salary for games played and performance. I fhe doesn’t play he gets nothing. What’s the worst that could happen.

I want to trade Cutler to Atlanta for Vick
and get TO from b=Buffalo. grab a few more WR’s and youll have the best line up ever…
Vick- Owens- Chris Henry- Plax- Donte Stallworth= Unstoppable
Maybe Travis Henry and Maurice “Sippin’ on the Goose” Clarett in the backfield?
Can anyone see if Leonard Little is available? He can really shore up the pass attack…

plax is good, but obviously lots of baggage
however, tory holt has none of that baggage, and is about the same age. plus, pace is apparently going to try and recruit him, and lovie and he go back as well. honestly, unless somebody opts to pay stupid money for him, i think our chances of getting holt are pretty good. too many good connections, the chance to play with a great QB, be on a contender (which we would be if we signed him)…seems like a perfect match.

from PLax. The dude doesn’t care about football. He cares about himself and making money and rolling with the hommes.

c- Most people on the blog have expressed more than a little interest in Torry Holt, but it has been reported that his work-out in Tenn went very well.

Why would he want to play in Tenn?
Kerry Collins? LOL. They lost Haynesworth, who IMO made their entire D better than they really were and the only playmaker on their offense is Johnson.
