ANALYSIS: This is the pick where everybody thought Sanchez or a running back. The fact is, the Broncos were an 8-8 team who narrowly missed the playoffs and played horrible run defense which was third worst in the league. They weren't a 3-13 team that was last in their division, and even though they used 7 different RB' they were still able to generate 4.8 yards per carry. Denver traded Cutler to the Bears because they thought Kyle Orton had more upside than Jason Campbell. Since McDaniels is a Belichick protege, I expect him to work with the quarterbacks he already has. as far as running backs are concerned, those would be late round picks. Maualuga would be the best alternative since Raji is off the board. He's a perfect prospect to play Denver's hybrid 3-4 4-3 scheme. In addition to being a polished ILB, it lets Denver toy with the idea of moving D.J. Williams to the outside. They still need to get a DT, so the best option is to use the Bears pick on Peria Jerry. |
