Chicago Bears Draft Update
With the Cutler deal over most it is a bit harder to project what and where the Bears will go with their 2nd round pick (#49 overall). Most think that wide reciever is a must, but what if all the guys worth this pick are off the board? Do they go safety, defensive line?

I think it will still be a WR
But can I get someone to add to this post what round these guys are projected as or at least direct me somewhere where I can find out where they are projected?
If Britt and Robiskie
are both gone by the 49th the rest of the wide recievers will probably not contribute much in their first year. I would take a 330# line smashing NT like Ron Brace. We really need to sign a FA wide out.
so you advocate
best available player?
cause I do too.
Taking a WR just to take a WR is a very bad move.
We are not bad off
Cutler will have plenty of targets if we sign a FA. Two good tight ends and maybe Kellen Davis in his second year. Then there is always Forte for a check down.
Does no one like Iglesias?
I watched a few OK games and came away impressed with him.
But after the first Major Wright hit, he didn't look the same in Miami.
He needs to be able to take the hits from the head-hunting safeties in the NFL. He’s only 6’ and barely over 200 pounds.
I think your...
thinking Manny Johnson, not Iglesias I don’t remember Iglesias getting jacked by Major Wright, but Johnson did on the first play of the game.
Oh, we got pissed about that at Alligator Army.
Or I thought we did, at least. Can’t seem to find it in the archives. Hmm… I know I was screaming at the TV and my neighbors came knocking on the door.
I don't get the need for a DLineman.
Let Marinelli work his magic with the current staff, maybe get one guy late in the draft. We really need someone on the line, and Pace isn’t a long term solution.
Marinelli can't work magic
if they are always hurt like Dusty. Another good NT would be good.
Dline needs depth
the Giants won the SB going 7 or 8 deep on the defensive line.

That's a great point...
And we were a lot better in ’06 when guys like Mark Anderson, Alfonso Boone, and Ian Scott were rotating in and out, to spell guys…

D-line needs definite work
Tommie Harris is an enigmatic humongous question mark. Dusty Dvoracek can’t stay healthy and has done virtually nothing even when healthy, therefore is strong candidate to be cut. Anthony Adams is a journeyman at best. Mark Anderson was a one-year wonder and another candidate to be cut. Adewale Ogunleye is remarkably average and invisible too much of the time. Alex Brown is a hard-working overachiever. Israel Idonji is best labeled depth.
Really?
Cut? Just, plain old “Pack yer bags and get out” kind of cut?
Really?
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious. (Vince Lombardi)
Dvoracek is not good
His impact on stopping the run on those few ocassions when he has actually been on the football field is wholly unimpressive. He’ll be gone during training camp. If not sooner.

I think
he’s been WAY overhyped by the mock draft community, and he’ll last longer than we think. I could be wrong, but he has too little production to warrant the hype, imo. He started out as a mid-round prospect, and now he’d a potential first rounder.
DEJESUS!!!
The thing about Robiskie
Is he runs precise routes and his hands are pretty good. I dunno about his production but i’m pretty sure it was low last year due to Pryor being named the starter.
"The phone's for you, I think it's the Devil."
Hmm
I haven’t heard him being a 1st rounder, but that’s beside the point.
The one knock on Robiskie prior to the combine was his lack of top-end speed. Besides that, he was a coach’s son, good hands, fluid route runner, etc. I think he deserves the job, but now that I’m really thinking about it, I don’t think he’ll last to #49.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!
Iglesias
For what it’s worth at our first pick in the draft Iglesias is actually a good deal. He is tall and fast and makes plays. I think he would be a great fit on the Bears and be a talent equivalent to a Marcus Robinson or Marty Booker when they were actually good football players. Not a bad pick in my opinion!
and he's slow
4.5 at the combine.
granted they said it was a slow track but 4.5 is death for a nfl wr
please note the slow track comment
it’s key
and let me add that robiskie is 6'3"
that makes a huge difference. if you don’t have size or speed, you probably won’t make it.
shhhh bullshit
don’t give me exceptions and i dont’ think that either one ran a 4.8.
it’s very rare for a quality nfl wr to be that slow.
fitzgerald ran a 4.63
and i would bet that rice didn’t fare much worse
I'm thinking if
Robiskie is available we’ll go that route if not I think it’s BPA. Who knows maybe JA finds a way to move up in the draft but I doubt it. I could see Holt becoming a Bear the closer we get to the draft. Then again I could be drunk off my ass and have no idea what I’m talking about.
If things came easy, then everybody would be great at what they did, let's face it.

Robiskie doesn't really fit with the need
The Bears need a burner and they need a big physical receiver. Robiskie in my view is overrated when it comes to what he will do in the NFL.
the only thing the bears have is a burner
or are you saying they need a burner with great size too? sorry but only so many randy moss’ in this league.

I live by a ask and ye

WR
Some of the first round wide receivers everyone is projecting in the late first round will slide to the second. It always happens.
My guess is either Nicks or Harvin will be available early in the second which will push some others down as well.
Best available wide receiver, safety, defensive lineman
I think it comes down to that. While the Bears do indeed have crisis need for a wide receiver it would be a mistake to reach on a guy with that valuable #49 second round pick. Jerry Angelo and his warroom staff need to let the draft come to them and make smart pick.
Something tells me Percy Harvin will be there at #49 given his recent marijuana issue and the fact that it is somewhat difficult to project what his real value in the NFL will be. Regarding the other names mentioned above??? It’s all speculation. Every NFL team invites a boatload of prospects in for private workouts. And the correlation between which being invited in for a private workout by a team and actually having that team draft or sign you as a free agent is not terribly direct.
guys who could be there
the 40 times are a little off b/c they are what the teams reported.
Percy Harvin 5’11" 4.36 projected 1st round , big play guy
Hakeem Nicks 6’1" 4.57 projected 1st round, great hands
Darrius Hayward-Bay 6’2" 4.34 projected 1-2nd round; fast, tall, drops passes
Derrick Williams 5’11" 4.43 1-2nd projected; strong leader, fast
Brian Robiskie 6’3" 4.49 2nd projected; prototype WR, most NLF ready
Kenny Britt 6’4" 4.54 2nd rd projected; tall, good route runner, finds soft spots.
Juaquin Inglesias 6’1" 4.49 2-3rd projected; quick but not fast ,good hands
Ramsis Barden 6’6" 4.58 2-3rd projected; tall jump ball target, 2nd tier competition
Louis Murphy 6’2" 4.38 3rd projected; fast, fairly tall, overshadowed by harvin
Mohamed Massaquoi 6’2" 4.54 3-4 projected; prototype build, drops passes\
Austin Collie 6’2" .4.56 4-th projected; strong, good hands, older 24, runs great routes
Brandon Gibson 6’1" 4.53 3-4rd projected; quick but not fast, good hands and route running, NFL ready

Gotcha.
I was hoping that whoever your source was wasn’t reporting some of those 40 times as the most current. No worries though. Thanks.

Closest thing to drafing Mike Brown's replacement?
Won’t be a 2nd rounder but I saw an assessment of FS Rashad Johnson (projected 5th-6th rounder) on nfldraftscout.comt and one line really caught the eye, describing him as a…
…quarterback on defense because of his knowledge of every position on the field and ability to react to offensive formations.
ChiFan’s assessment a while ago said good things about him as a pass-defending FS, if not so hot against the run. Still, with Mike Brown gone we need someone who can lead the defence.
I've watched ALOT of Johnson
And he was brilliant under Saban. He’s not GREAT against the run but he’s definitely not scared to come up and lay the wood on somebody. He’s a sure tackler in my opinion but his strongest assets are that he’s smart and pretty good against the pass. I think he ran the second fastest 40 among the safeties? Not positive tho. Definitely worth a 3rd round pick.
