Why not Ocho Cinco?
The Bears need to pick up a veteran WR. I've been waiting every day since "Jay Cutler Day" to hear news about potential WR trades or possible pickups visiting/scheduling visits to Halas Hall that would finally give Jay a legit #1 but alas, I am yet to hear any news. I think this needs to be addressed before the draft because I believe we need to use our higher picks on defense.
So we've talked about Plaxico. No thanks. No point in wasting money for someone who is going to have to be suspended and probably serve jail time. Haven't mentioned the Jaguar's recently released wideouts (Matt Jones and Reggie Williams) but unless we want to blow some lines during half time, I think we'll pass. Torry Holt, I would love to have you on the Bears for your skill and what you could teach our young receivers. It seems that you may be interested in Tennessee but I believe you would rather get passes from Jay Cutler than Vince "manic depressive" Young or prehistoric Kerry Collins. Look us up ASAP. But now to the point of this blog, how about Chad Ocho Cinco? I am aware that we would have to trade for him but we could make it happen. From watching Sports Center, it seems that the Bengals are interested in getting rid of him and why not bring him here to see what he can do. The guy has had a pretty impressive career if you break it down and would definitely give Cutler a legitimate #1 wideout.
Receptions/career: 612
Receiving yards/career: 8905
Receiving yards/game: 260 on Nov. 12, 2006 at New Orleans
Receiving yards/season: 1440 in 2007 (Ocho Cinco has the top five seasons in club history)
Receiving yards/consecutive games: 450, at New Orleans and vs. San Diego in 2006 (also an NFL record)
100-yd. receiving games/career: 26
90+ receptions seasons: Four
100-yd. receiving games/season: Five (shared)
Receiving TDs/game: Three (shared)
Not to mention that from the 2003 to 2006 seasons he won the AFC receiving title four consecutive years. This guy has major talent. Unlike some of the fore mentioned WR, he does not get into trouble with the law. He has had some feuds with Bengal's management but he's going into his 9th year as a pro, who wouldn't get frustrated and want to get out of the deathtrap that is Cincinatti. His only major flaw would be that of his character. Just like T.O., Chad is known to be a bit full of himself and quite frankly looks like a moron with some of his escapades, but the guy produces. If I had to choose between a productive WR who may either get suspended/ get in trouble with the law or someone who sometimes acts like a complete douche bag and get fined, I'd take the douche bag every time.
In my opinion, it seems that the Bengal's are very much ready to let Chad go, and I think he's definitely worth seeing what it would take to get him. I remember last year in the midst of Chad trying to get traded he came on Chicago radio and talked about how he would make Grossman a star. Well Grossman is gone, Cutler is already a star so why not come win us a Super Bowl? I really don't trust drafting a 2nd round receiver because rookie wideouts are so unpredictable and we already basically have a rookie in Bennett. So what would we have to trade?
I'm reluctant to give up many picks because of the Cutler deal but for Chad I would definitely give up our 2nd round. Maybe a 3rd and a player. Maybe 2nd and 3rd but one from 09' and one from 2010.
What do you think? Talk amongst yourselves.

I wouldn't mind CJ on the squad
He’s a great route runner, he catches everything, and he has fun. He demands the ball b/c he knows he’s a damn good receiver and I respect that. I don’t agree w/ fussing w/ Palmer or his coaches but it happens. I’m thinkin a 3rd and Vasher/ Ogunleye. That way we could draft DE in the 2nd and defense the rest of the way.
"The phone's for you, I think it's the Devil."
I would take Johnson
in a second, and I think he’d be more productive than Holt in our offense, and he’s a million times better guy than Plax (who might be suspended or in jail for a good portion of the season.
I don’t think we’ll get him, though. The Bengals could’ve had 2 first round picks for him last year. I don’t see them taking a 3rd and an also-ran player for him this year. It would look too bad for the GM.
DEJESUS!!!
I agree he would be very productive
I feel like it would take a lot to get him too. Holt is the Bears’ best bet overall.

All in
The Bears need to seriously explore every option at this point. If they’re able to find a difference maker at WR, then they’ll be serious contenders for another SB run.

Starting to change my mind
I’ve previously said, more than once, I wouldn’t like to see Chad on the Bears. I respect his play, but he annoys me.
I agree w/Thomas21 that he would be more productive than Torry Holt, my first choice. He is certainly preferable to Buress.
I like Holt because we wouldn’t have to give up as much to get him, he’s a great receiver, his attitude is way better than Chad’s, he would be a better mentor to Hester and Bennett. Plus I wouldn’t have to go through the unpleasant experience of throwing up in my mouth a little, every time I saw a navy blue and orange jersey that had “Ocho Cinco” printed on the back.
His downside to Chad IMO, is that he might not perform quit as well as Chad in Soldier Field and its consistently miserable turf situation. Plus Chad is more physical and fits our needs a little better.
NFC Championship games cure a lot of acid reflux.
OCHO-CINCO ES MUY BUENO
By saying that he’s a good receiver we’re really undermining who Ocho-loco is ? This kid is T.O. but without the poison in the locker room attitude. He brings a fun style that can only rub off on our guys man. We need characters in our locker room. Remember the 80’s bears they were full of characters and they had character too. Most people see the retarted shit he does and want to label the guy. I see that and laugh my ass off, the dude is comes up with clever shit to do after scoring a td and that’s what it’s all about TDs. If we could get him for let’s say a 2nd and 5th rounder I’d pull the trigger in a heart beat man. Then we shoot Lovie in the forehead with a water pistol. Damn it. I digressed. I thought my hate for Lovie had subsided since the Cutler trade but I see I need more therapy, Lovie blow goat balls. Damn it, there I go again.
Hayed "PC" Ahmad
now that we have Cutler
I’d definitely like the idea of COC being a Bear. a QB like Cutler will put him in his place. something that he, nor T.O. has never had.

They aren't even publicly shopping him.
How do you know that is what they want?
I firmly believe that any man's finest hour, the greatest fulfillment of all that he holds dear, is that moment when he has worked his heart out in a good cause and lies exhausted on the field of battle - victorious. (Vince Lombardi)
Because Chad Johnson is an elite playmaker in the still prime of his career, that's why
Unless some team coughed up a good 1st round pick (and possibly other considerations) I don’t see a snowball’s chance in hell that GM Mike Brown and Cincinnati will trade Ocho Cinco. They already lost TJ Housh. At despite their awful 2008 season they actually aren’t that far off from being an interesting team once again. Carson Palmer is an awfully good quarterback, and you want to surround somebody like him with weapons.
Oh, okay.
What I got out of your original comment was that you knew some information. Didn’t realize that was just your speculation.
As far as them trading Johnson, if I remember correctly, they were offered either two 1sts or a 1st and a 2nd last year and they turned it down.

Update
The Bengals just called me and confirmed what BLou said. I asked them if I sent them a few $5 subway footlongs would they give us Chad and they said yes.
If things came easy, then everybody would be great at what they did, let's face it.

Exactly
They were offered two 1st rounders last year (can’t remember who) and turned it down. Plus his contract only runs through 2010 and I’m sure he’ll try to cash in one more time. I would love it, but we don’t even have the picks to get him if JA deemed him worthy and the actual reality of this thing happening, is nil.

You might be right about their demands,
but the Bengals are as far from competing as any team in the NFL. Carson Palmer may or may not be healthy, Housh is gone, Chad Johnson was a shell of himself last year, they have no running game, and their defense blows. Oh, and their top defensive player (which isn’t saying much) just got a DUI.
DEJESUS!!!
Here's A Couple Ideas
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/writers/don_banks/04/07/welker/1.html
Maurice Covington, WR, Virginia — Covington missed four games of his senior season with a broken left hand, and that’s the kind of setback that can cause a prospect to fall off the radar screen in the three-month, pre-draft buildup. But after not being invited to the combine, Covington made up for it at the Cavaliers’ pro day, posting a 40-inch vertical jump that drew applause from the other UV players in attendance. Covington is drawing interest from teams that covet a big receiver, like the Plaxico-less Giants.
http://www.draftcountdown.com/scoutingreports/wr/George-Smith.php
George Smith, WR, Vanderbilt — Height: 6-3 | Weight: 202 | 40-Time: 4.55
2005 (Cutler’s Senior Year) 10 Games Played 23 REC’s 287 Yards 12.5 Yards/Catch 2 TD’s
If he were an FA i'd be all about it
85 is very talented… but i’d like to keep our remaining draft picks if possible.
We need to build a young offense around our young qb and rb and LT-of-the-future. And you do that best through the draft.
The shortest distance between two points is under construction.

Except
that our window with our current defensive corps may be closing, so they may want to go for broke this year. That, and Jerry wants to make his new QB look good, so that he looks good.
DEJESUS!!!
I feel the same way about our D
But no player is older than 30 I believe, so that’s gotta be a positive right?
"The phone's for you, I think it's the Devil."
Good for Us
I dont think the Bungals will trade him, but if they did for a 2nd/ 3rd/ or both to me would be a no brainer. I do however believe if ocho cinco goes on the block they could get more in trade from several teams, namely the entire nfc east-viqueens-jags-titans-raiders- and a whole host of other teams i am sure…… so we are better off settling for marvin or hoping like hell pace convinces holt.
no bueno ocho cinco,mucho problemos.
plus he will ruin the number 85, it is sacred magical number and this jerk will desacrate it with his stupid antics. we can do better.
