Windy City Gridiron Has Hit the 1,000,000 Mark

Wcg_1__medium

Windy City Gridiron was the first football blog on SB Nation.  It has been a long and strenuous road at times, but we have finally reached the 1,000,000 visits mark at 6:32 PM CDT.

Doing a site like this is a labor of love. You have to put enormous amounts of time and effort into it for the sheer pleasure of doing it. It was a journey for me that started with a WordPress blog with 5 users to the biggest Bears blog on the Internet with over 1500 users. I have to tell you, it feels damn good.

I have some quick thanks to give out.

Star-divide

First, to whoever it was at SB Nation who thought based only on my small little blog, that I would be a good choice to run this site. SB Nation has provided us bloggers with the best platform and the best support from top to bottom.

We've been through a hand full of co-bloggers, but let me give a big thanks to ChiFan who was a big part of this boom we've seen in the last 8-12 months with me.  Also to GeauxBears who came on board as the site was ramping up and helped get us there.  Both guys have been vital to the success of the site and they are just as responsible for the product we have today.

Also to all the other co-bloggers I've had along the way. Scespy is still with us and you can expect to see more outstanding Xs and Os from him in the future.

But the biggest thanks has to go to all the great readers of WCG. We still have a good deal of WCG Originals; readers who have been with me for over 3 years.  We've also seen a recent influx of new readers through sites like Yahoo. You have made this site great.

ChiFan13 edit: A big thanks deserves to go to WCG for all his hard work, time, and effort over these past three years.

Here's to the race to 2,000,000. See you there.

Thanks,

WCG

Congrats WCG (blogger)!

You have hit an enormous milestone, and should be very proud. This is absolutely the BEST Bears blog on the internet, and I have no doubt that it will only get better.

Kudos!

LOL

I hear ya!

Because as far as we're concerned, there is still no team in the history of the NFL that could beat the '85 Bears.

Thanks

I went back in and he was yelling at the class about the overall failure on the quiz, so I missed no thing. Karma, maybe?

I'M BACK!

Unfortunately, I have been gone since last Thursday… I’m still trying to get caught up! However, I had to skip to this post because I am so excited.

Congrats and thanks for running all of this Mr. Boss. :) You wouldn’t believe how much I have learned here and how many more conversations I can have with GG now that he doesn’t have to explain every little thing. Lol.

I can’t wait to see 2 million! :D

Sorry boss, I checked last night.

But you are correct, propheteer. Pride of Detroit will hit a million pretty soon, but no one else is even close.

I’m honored to have been a part of this, even if I don’t really bring much to the table.

Impressed by...

The average length on the site— over 3 minutes. That’s good.

And, by the fact that you have over 8K unique visitors per day with an average of over 2 page views…that is also quite good.

This means that despite the high volume of traffic, your content is adequate enough to keep people on the site reading articles and clicking on links to see other info.

Keep it up!

Great site

It’ll remain my #1 Bears source as long as you keep doing the Dens, they are really good for catching up on what’s happening!

Grats guys

I am so glad i stumbled upon this site, when i get back to the “real world” i will be able to enjoy the site that much more. ie. see pictures, read all articles/blogs etc etc.

And as far as the people go, there is not one person i don’t enjoy reading posts from

except tempchad but he’s growing on me too :).
