NFL.com Power Rankings
I was perusing NFL.com, and noticed Kirwan's rankings for the NFL next season. The Bears come in at...
13. Jay Cutler changes everything for the Bears. He's a playmaker with a cannon arm who can win a game with a fourth-quarter drive. The offensive line is better, but are the receivers good enough to take advantage of Cutler's skills? The defense will be better with Rod Marinelli reuniting with his friend Lovie Smith on the Bears' coaching staff.
First off I find it funny that the Bears are 4th in Peter King's rankings but fall all the way to 13 in these rankings.
Next off, why is everyone complaining about our WRs this offseason? They have everyone back from last season except Marty Booker, not much off a loss in my opinion, and only added more talent in Knox and Iglesias. The Bears went 9-7 last year, with Orton and this WR core, they add Cutler and an improved O-Line, and our new predicted record by Kirwan is still 9-7, come on. My point is, Orton had a good season last year with these same WRs, so good that people were even talking about Orton being in the Pro Bowl before his injury, and since Cutler is a better QB you would have to assume that the WRs get better with him.
What are your thoughts?

WE also had Lloyd
I think da bears will finish 12-4, and wil be much better than those wacked out so called power rankings. Our receivers arn’t that bad plus we have 2 solid TE’s, 2 solid RB. Were fine now that qb ha been solved. Defense is going to be exciting I can feel it. Were not going to have so many 3 and outs on off, and addition of Marrenelli will revitalize that aging defense. Can’t wait till season starts, i have never been so excited about a season as this one.

Is it that funny
King put us at 4. Everybody else I’ve seen has us in the area of 13-16.

Scout.com had the Bears behind the Vikings and the Packers. King’s ranking (4th) is the one that is way out of the norm.

I wonder if this means
King has picked Cutler as his new man crush with Favre retiring.

4 was way too high
4 was for a team with a dominant defense or offense which we have neither..yet. We have questions to be answered – How much will Marinelli help the pass rush? with 3 new starting Olineman how long will it take to gel? Will our wr corp drag down Cutler or will he elevate their play? Who the hell is going to play free safety? I think every team in our division has questions like this but the thing I like about our chances is that we solved the biggest one – QB. Minnesota still has crap at that position and it will hurt them throughout the year.
Who give's a rat's ass about pre-season "power rankings"
That said, ranked #13 sounds about right for this team. The defense is a big fat question mark until proven otherwise and there are lots of new parts on offense that need to be integrated into something successful.
I agree on pre-season rankings, but 13 (in theory) is the first team left out in the postseason.
Clearly the Bears are a playoff caliber team in the NFC right? I think 12 is a good spot for them unproven, but as soon as this team starts to gel – I think they are a top-8 team.

On the subject of wide recievers:
at the very least, we’re better this year – our collection of rag-tag veterans with Davis was dreadful. I’d rather go with youth and speed, frankly, and another year of experience will help Devin and Earl immensely. As will Jay Cutler’s arm.
All this hand-wringing about WRs seems a little odd to me, considering that I actually prefer the players we have this year. Maybe we just have less weaknesses to nitpick?
(now that’s bear-fan optimism!)

I think it is more because many of them have not seen the field
If the Bears are going to use Knox and Iglesias and Bennett that is 3 guys who didn’t play last year. If a rookie hasn’t played yet what guarantee is there that they will be amazing? As other people have mentioned it is the question marks that are placing us there. On paper it looks nice, and if it pans out 12-4 is looking good. If some of the guys struggle and our worries are realized it could be 8-8 or a spot lower. While I think about everything would have to go wrong for the Bears to have a worse year than last year, it does make sense that people have them ranked at 13 for now.
!
Well..
I think it’s got to do with recievers that we did have, had been in the league for 5 years plus. Now we’re banking on possibly a couple of rookie’s seeing a lot of playing time.Which isn’t a bad thing, but I think questioning the corp of recievers is warranted.

I very well could be the only one....
But wasn’t Rashied Davis kind of decent a couple of years ago? Obviously last year he was terrible and dropped anything hitting his chest. However, I remember him being pretty solid before then. Maybe he reverts to form?

My thoughts would be,
rank The Bears 32nd, put Mark Schlereth’s Dumb ass anywhere he can be seen by the players. Write an article about how the Bears have mortgaged their future on a cry-baby QB, so that an over the hill, over rated, Urlacher can catch lighting in a bottle a win a championship. In that same article, write a snippet about how proud Lovie Smith is to have another buddy on his staff (one that just finished 0 – 16 as a HC). Post Moose’s comments “Chicago is where receivers go to die” in the film room. Force the team to watch last years Carolina, Atlanta, Tampa, @ Minnesota, and Houston games for all of July. Then last, certainly not least, post a picture of Josh McDaniels on Cutler’s rear view mirror.
Trying to go 16-0?

While I thought the #4 ranking was a little high....
I think this #13 ranking is a little low. I certainly don’t think the Vikings should be ranked ahead of us. As far as I’m concerned, we’re taking the division. I’m also confident that we’re better than the Saints, another team ranked ahead of us. There are other teams that you could debate, but even with a conservative estimate, I’d put the Bears at least at #11.
Bear Down, Chicago Bears!
If you take the average of all the rankings it puts us somewhere between 8-12
Which puts us in the postseason, and we’ve seen what can be accomplished once in the big dance (ie AZ & NYG)
Should make for a VERY interesting season!
