Cool HoneyBear, I have seen you on here quite a bit.
I am from Fort Wayne, IN and a Die Hard fan. Parent’s moved me here in 78 when I was 7. I have proudly represented Chi-town ever since. Especially Da Bears and no other. By the way, Ball State is one partying college. Don’t remember some of the great times I have had there, but I was told plenty of good things the next day. LOL

Unfortunately (or fortunately for our grades?) it’s not the party school that it used to be… lol
Everyone from Leesburg/Warsaw goes to Ft. Wayne to either the Jefferson Pointe mall or Glenbrook mall. :) I really like the whole town though! Nice to know there’s someone here from my area. :)

Born in Jamaica...
And moved to Chi-town when i was 2 yrs old. Lived in Rogers Park (never far from Howard St.) for 20+ years till joined the Army in 2001.
North Side!
LOL, it's funny cause
since i’ve been in the Army which is 8 years now, i’ve only met a few and i mean a few people from Chicago. Out of those few I’ll say 89% have been from either the Southside or from Aurora, Naperville, or Peoria. So when i say North Side it’s literally cause i’m like the only one in the Army it seems lol.
Maybe North Side peeps join the Navy or Marines..i can’t call it..

Either you or Orlando Bears Fan
ever been to Johnson’s Soul Food? Just wondering if it’s really that good or if it’s just been over-hyped? There’s not much in the way of soul food over this way.

I’ve been there many times, and yes it WAS good. They closed a year or two ago due to some unpaid taxes or something. I haven’t heard if they are planning on reopening yet.

Chicago beef
I’ve had the same problem trying to find one here in Orlando. I have to make them myself. I have a good simple recipe if you want it, unless you have your own.
"Do you know what my favorite part of the game is? The opportunity to play."
-Mike Singletary
there's a place that i went to in west palm
that had all the good… the owner’s were from chi so that had it right… the italian beefs(dipped), vienna hotdogs(as opposed to that nathan’s crap), pizza(cut in squares), and even pizza puffs(for those wo know what those are, it’s probably cuz you have a burn scar on the roof of your mouth to remind you). not sure if it’s there anymore, been 4 years since i lived down there…
now, i’m stuck on the east coast where they call it “APIZZA”… seriously? APIZZA? the best pizza i can get here in new haven is the one that gives me the least heartburn… seriously!!!
Never new pizza puffs were a Chicago thing
until I moved down here. They at least opened a Giordanos over my way a couple years back, so that’s better than nothing, and 10 times better than the NY crap that’s all over the place down here.
46, as far as the beef recipe, I’ll take it. The way I do mine is a slow-cooker method which is good, but it’s not what you typically think of when you think Chicago beef.
"Well, we didn't block real good but we made up for it by not tackling."
- John McKay
pass that recipe on....
i’vee been non-stop talking about them since we started this whole conversation!!! for some reason, i found it awefully hard to describe to people yesterday. you know, the whole “dipped” and all…
OK
Maybe I could start a post of “Chicago” recipes for a little change of pace. Since many of us aren’t in or near Chicago anymore, it might be cool to see how others satisfy those cravings for the food we love. Would that be of interest to anyone?
My recipe is very simple, and probably not a “real” beef sandwich, but it’s the best I have found so far. Maybe someone has an even better one.

What position? I spent virtually my entire playing career in the front row (prop, then hooker, with some experience at blindside flanker) so I’ve always had a soft spot for the grunt work of the OL and DL, and the LBs’ run-stuffing.
Yay front row! lol
In high school I was loose-head prop (which I loved) and occasionally hooker, but now that I’m in college, coach said I’m too small – so I’ve mostly been a flanker. Although I hop in for hooker occasionally when we’re short. I also jump for line-outs – which are my favorite! LOL

Lexington, KY
I have lived in Kentucky for 26 of my 31 years. A football guy in a basketball state. Don’t get me wrong, I love my UK Basketball. But, number one in my heart is Bears Football with Kentucky Basketball and Football following just a little behind my beloved Bears.
Being the fanatic I am about both teams, their is no question, this has been the best off season EVER. Bears get Jay from Santa Claus, IN ( Merry Xmas everyone), BIG upgrades to the O-line, IMO a strong draft (only time will tell), and say what you want about the impact of Marinelli, we all wanted changes to coaching staff and that is what we got. Take that with what my CATS have done, hired J.Calipari. The only thing he has done since coming to KY, is bring in arguably the best recruiting class ever.
Neither of the teams I follow made the post season last year (first time in 17years for UK).
Now, IMO they both are sure fire contenders.
PS. Favre, please go to Minn.
I feel like icing on my cake.

talk to me when you win a world series… or in another hundred years… whichever comes first! and i’d have to say that the new yankees stadium is the worst park. everybody’s hittin it out of that park!!!
that wasn't a dig at the sox
i have no issue with the sox, other than the fact that I don’t like AL rules.

just the “talk to me when you win a WS” crap from Sox fans gets sooo old.
I know my team hasn’t won in a really long ass time.
And I said nothing snarky enough to have it thrown in my face.

try being a sox fan living on the north side!!!
that was nothing compared to the crap i had to endure my whole life. not sure if you realize it, but fans used to go to blows over that back in the day… having to deal with the colored past of the “blacK sox” scandal, we had a curse of our own! and in being a fan, one should be expected to deal with that kind of talk, no matter what mood they’re in.
I don't believe in curses.
or being a jerk simply because someone is a fan of another team. or another league.
But whatever. Be a jerk and tell me to “deal with it”.
I have plenty of friends who are cubs fans
And they’ll be the first ones to say “come on, quit teasing us about not winning anything.”
But let the Sox lose one game(or get blown out 20-1) and that passive behavior goes out the door.
I’ve gotten 10 texts today telling me how sucky my team is.
In closing, both teams fans like to dish it out. But its apparent to me that cubs fans can’t take it back.

I like the sox by default, being a southsider and all, but I also root for the Cubbies(there are actual fans that do that)
but this is the first time in my life that I squirm thinking about a good player landing on the sox. They are playing like crap in a crappy division. Peavy can’t save this team(which is why he rejected the trade), and they will be watching the the freakin twins in the playoffs come october.
They should have never gotten rid of Garland.

Team Bigamy
is not a desired trait.
And I agree about Garland, but its not him thats costing us. Floyd lost his stuff, and we can’t manufacture runs. We live by the homer, and our best power hitter is the injury prone guy the diamondbacks thought he was when they traded him. So yeah, it’s gonna be a few years before the Sox get back to dominance.

I don’t remember how many times I recall myself saying there’s always next year. I would love to see them finally win a WS like every other Cub fan. But when it comes down to it, even when they have been horrible or right on the brink of doing something great and fail..I still root for them. I will for the rest of my life just like Da Bears. I don’t kill on Sox fans, just want to see Cub’s win when they face each other, that’s all.

crosstown classics were the BEST back in the day… it was something special!
Cubs and baseball
They have left a great distaste in my mouth after years of disappointment. In other words, it’s very difficult for me to watch and enjoy baseball cause of how grueling the season is, and waiting for the usual pending negative outcome.

Yea I’ve been living here for the past 8 years or so, it’s a nice area but boring as hell! I’m so surprised to see how few people actually live in Chicago/Illinois, I didn’t know the Bears were so popular nationwide, but I guess that comes with being the best organization in the NFL :)

Well
I know that there’s two: One that sells Juicy Lucy’s (with the Velvetta inside) and the other is Vincent – A Restaurant that puts smoked gouda and braised ribs inside the patty. Arbusto can probably answer that better than I can.
