Can we still get Boldin?
So have the Cardinals officially taken Anquan Boldin off the market? I've heard that the two sides are coming closer to an extention. I know it would be tough to get him without next year's first round pick to trade, but I still think we can do it. And if we somehow can pull off a trade for him, we've got a superbowl team. I would be willing to give up almost anything for Boldin.

if we couldn't get him before the draft
we won’t get him now.

Disagree...
I understand the interest in getting a top 10 receiver on the Bears especially now that we have a guy like Cutler but the reality is that adding Boldin who, in my mind, ranks in the bottom half of the top 10, will NOT have that big of an impact in the W/L column.
Our running game, our offensive line play, our three tight ends, our defense and our ability to maintain a top of the league ranking in special teams all rate higher than upgrading our #1 receiver when it comes to our record next year.
Look at it like this:
Our current #1 WR, Devin Hester, caught 25 passes for 350 yards in the last 6 games of the year. In that same period, our quarterbacks completed 108 passes for 1062 yards. This means that Hester accounted for roughly a quarter of the catches and almost a third of the passing yards— and that was with a gimpy Kyle Orton throwing the ball.
What do you think Hester’s production will be with Cutler who actually compliments Hester’s skills because he can get the ball down field. Combine that with another full year under his belt as a receiver— a position we all know he just picked up in 2007. My conservative estimation is that you’ll get at least a 20% pickup in production out of Hester given the new QB and the continued improvement.
This means that for a six game period his numbers would go from 25 to 30 catches and 350 to 420 yards. That is an average of 5 receptions and 70 yards per game. Extrapolate that into a full 16 game season and we’re talking about 80 catches and over 1,100 yards. What were Boldin’s numbers in the pass happy Cardinals offense? 89 receptions and 1,038 yards. And Hester is a full two years younger than Boldin.
You might argue, “yeah, but imagine if we had both of them…we’d be an offensive juggernaut.” I’d say sure, we’ll be good but remember, we are still a team built on running the football in the harsh November and December months. Moreover, we use our backs and tight ends as a major part of the passing game. So, although a Boldin/Hester combo would certainly be an upgrade, it would not make that much of a difference over a Hester/Bennett or Hester/Iglesias combo simply because there will not be that many plays that go to the wide receivers on an offense that will be running a lot and using Forte, Olsen and Clark as primary receivers as well.
For these reasons, I totally disagree that we should consider “giving up almost anything” for Boldin. Besides, I don’t believe we are in a mandatory “win now” mode as some have suggested. Cutler and Hester and Bennett and Iglesias and Forte and Olsen will be here for a long time and there is still the opportunity to pick up talent at WR next off season through Free Agency without having to give up starting caliber players on defense or offense or more first round picks.
I say we go into this year with what we have and see where the chips fall. If we determine that the lack of an elite WR is what is holding us back from the promised land then we make that move next off-season when guys like Brandon Marshall become available.

What I like about this Cutler/Orton Trade is that..
It will really provide a lot of answers to the question of how important the quarterback position is. If Cutler gets as much per pass attempt out of his receivers in Chicago 2009 as he did in Denver in 2008, then the QB is the key factor. Meanwhile, McDaniel will be trying out the theory that “It’s the system, not the quarterback” – by replacing pro-bowl Cutler with bud-bowl Orton. Watching the results of this trade for each team will be extremely fascinating. Also, you’ve convinced me to be more excited about our receivers with this comment – I’m wondering with Cutler if the biggest factor will be quick, crisp route-running and fighting for the ball. In that light, I wonder if DJ Moore would ever pan out as a receiver (Hester was once a DB too).

wrecked
Good logic here, I agree we should see how this year pans out with our current corp. Jay Sizzle just might make someone a star!
Yes, you are correct.
let’s see how it pans out. I think a star will be born if not more than one.
Hear about the blind hooker, you gotta hand it to her.

friends think i'm crazy, but...
i am absoutely convinced of the same thing… yes, i’m thrilled about jay, but, i’m even more happy for bennett…esp. with the bad rap he got from last season. watching this kid play in his freshman(although i was really watching cutler), he, it seems, IMHO, did alot to get cutler to the place he is now. they made it look REAL easy at vandy…real easy! call me crazy, but i really think it’s gonna be a peyton-harrson type of tandem. and as i mentioned in an earlier post, watching hester catch the ball in that OTA clip was very encouraging. he showed some real soft hands. iglesias will do his part, i’m sure, but it’s kinder that i’m intrigued about. hope knox can secure a spot on the roster… i’d LOVE to see him on the field with hester… imagine all that speed on the field! good lord! i haven’t even brought olsen(jay’s new BFF), DEZ, or forte. i’m really thinking jay said it right when he said we have more than enought weapons!!! when does the season start???
They blew their chance
The Cardinals went from wanting a first round pick to wanting a second round pick. If they wanted him they would of done something before the draft. Now its to late.
It was reported that a second round was offered...
… by JA and the cards turned him down.
It' still nice
to have a go-to guy in the playoffs though.

Agreed
If there’s a way to do the deal, get it done! Boldin is a far better receiver than anyone currently on the roster. Adding a guy like Boldin or Burress would instantly open up the field for receivers like Hester and Bennett. He can also make the tough catches in a crowd. He would definitely make the offense better. Why wait until next year, when you can get a proven receiver now. I bet Cutler would give a thumbs up!
The poster is a 15 year old kid
Cut him a break. Boldin isn’t coming to Chicago. This kid is doing what all of us did at 15 and having fun playing around with trade scenarios. Let him have fun.
Awww, come on guys, it's so simple maybe you need a refresher course. It's all ball bearings ...
Guess we're all 15
B/c I remember everybody on this site playing around w/ Cutler trade scenarios a couple of months ago.
