I'm just going to take a moment

to forget about my miserable Cubs, and point out something of interest to the Bears:

FS Michael Huff, the Raiders 1st round pick in 2006 (#7 overall), is on the hot seat big time. He hasn’t been the impact player the Raiders thought they were getting when they drafted him, the bust labels are getting tossed around left and right, and now the the local media in the Oakland Bay area is pushing for him to move to CB. Not to mention, the Raiders selected FS Michael Mitchell from Ohio with their 2nd round pick this year (#47 overall).

If I were the Bears, I’d be scouting Huff right now… he’s a great athlete, with plus range. And, who knows… maybe he could benefit by playing in the Cover 2.

Maybe...

But the fact is, the guy IS a complete bust. He’s losing his position to UFAs and late round picks. He is entering his fourth year and all he has shown is that he easily gets caught out of position when playing FS, he can’t wrap up and tackle when playing SS, he continuously drops easy picks, he has no heart and has made no development progress in over three years.

The guy is a bust. Why should we bring him here when we have more than enough players competing for time and reps at the S position? Just because he was the 7th overall pick in the draft doesn’t mean he is going to be good for the Bears— his body of work in the NFL shows the exact opposite.

I've been wanting the Bears

To make a move for him for a couple of months now. I think he’d be ideal in the Cover 2. 26 yrs old w/ practically no wear and tear and he’s pretty fast. Let Lovie coach him up and who knows, maybe he turns into a stud.

i kinda like this kid...

i thought he was explosive at texas!!! he ‘s quick, has good range, squares up in tackling, and has great hips(thank god i can say that without getting the weird look). the big problem with him, i think, is DMS! being a former DB, i have to say that SAFETY/CB is interchangeable at the high school level, and that’s about it. i think it gets too dificult after that. again, maybe this is just my take on it. the fact of the matter is, however, that the majority of the time you get moved around, is because somebody thinks your talented and atheltic enough to be on the field. i guess at the pro level it might be a little different as i expect it has to do a little more with money. anybody want to chime in???

I just don't feel good about him...

Raiders fans will tell you that he simply can’t tackle, that he has no idea how to wrap guys up in the NFL and that he misses tackles or gets run over ALL the time. The career numbers speak for themselves— only 1 pick in three years, 1 sack and only 160 tackles…that is pretty bad when you consider how often the Raiders D is on the field, how many plays get past the line of scrimmage and how many chances he had.

I was curious about his tackling skills so I went back to his college highlight reel. He shows the speed that got Al Davis all worked up ( the guy was picked 5 spots in front of Jay Cutler) but he also shows that he has very, very poor tackleing techniques. In almost every play you’ll see that he tackles high—very high, sometimes at shoulder and head level. That may work in college but in the NFL where everyone is fast and strong, they’ll just push you right off.

The Bears need safeties who are sure tacklers, who can wrap guys up— especially as we’ll be giving up lots of underneath stuff to the receivers. If what the Raiders fans say and what this video shows is still fact, he would be a disaster for us as a safety.

the interception stat is troubling...

esp if you’re playing LF… and he does seem to tackle high but that can be coached out of someone, though it shouldn’t take four years to do it. that, to me, is a coaching issue. i really don’t see any true growth from any player on that team at any position. yah, they have some real STUDS on that team but pure athletic talent only gets you so far… man coverage schemes are WAY different than zone… maybe he’ll fit better.

I Laughed out loud on that one.

I already bought his jersey, hope i don’t have to ritually burn it after this season lol.

I got an orange Matt Forte one in my same order, pretty sure i’ll be wearing these two for a while to come.

I'm so jealous

I would LOVE a Forte jersey. I’m just scared to buy one in case something happens… I never know when the “right” time is to buy a jersey… lol.

Everyone Knows Vick is suited for the Wildcat

And my friend who is a die-hard Colts fan wants nothing more than the Colts to sign him. I keep telling him “You’re offense is too conventional and you would have to come up with a trick play set to use Vick effectively.” All he responds with is “Manning to Vick!” Idiot.

IMO,

the colts will have a rough season this year.

by rdent4hof on May 26, 2009 10:32 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree

This is a big adjustment year, new OC, OL coach and head coach. And yes many Colts fans have told me it’s not a big deal because all these people have been with the team for a while, etc but I still think it’s going to be hard. Who will replace Harrison? Now it’s easier to cover Wayne b/c there is no other big threat. The Colts window is closing.

by Sam Householder on May 26, 2009 10:55 AM CDT up reply actions

It'll be interesting...

… to watch the colts shift into Manning’s second term.

hard to evaluate players from Oakland

Does the player make the organization, or the other way around? Hard to tell here, but he may deserve the benefit of the doubt.

by Waylon on May 26, 2009 12:23 PM CDT reply actions

Well...

Oakland had two recognized high quality DB’s the last couple years in Gibril Wilson and Nnamandi Asomugha. Huff is now a highly recognized bust in most football circles.
