Vegas Line: Chicago at 8 Wins

Now for the crazy number of the day, and from people who are usually spot-on accurate... the Vegas line has put the over/under wins number for Chicago at 8. Trading for a franchise QB, and they see us with one less win than a season ago with Orton at the helm. The oodsmakers also have the Vikings and Packers at 8.5 wins, and the Lions at 5.
Windy City Gridiron does not advocate gambling, but I am curious as to your thoughts to these numbers. Are there really any people out there that wouldn't take the over on this?

Me too!
With their schedule, they should win a minimum of 9-10 games.

Over, hopefully way over
I do hope we aren’t putting to much pressure on Cutler though. I assume he won’t be throwing as much in our offense as he did last year. Just hope he and fans remember that every throw isn’t going to be for 6pts.

I think they see Urlacher and kreutz getting older.
The DE’s still ineffectual. The team getting very lucky a few times last year. Absolutely no safeties and teams can now plan for that. A lot of young guys. ZERO wide receiver stability right now.
People should remember that while they have the right to their opinion, they are not entitled to be taken seriously. --Bruce Bartlett

Seems like I’ve heard a lot lately about Urlacher being old, really though he is only 30 I think? Hopefully he just had a couple off years, superbowl hangover, a nagging injury and ex girlfriend and he’ll be back to form this year. Kreutz does seem to have slipped a little. Still he is one of my favorite Bears, currently on the team. I think that he is 31?

Nah, I but this is what happened(I love telling this) this happened in '98
so the guys fished it out of the retention pond in my back yard. it was twelve feet long. it had part of it’s right claw missing as if it was chewed ofrf. One of the guy’s said it looked as if a dog did it.
so I’m in my high school chorus class in 2003 and we take a trip to Busch Gardens in Tampa. there’s a section where they keep the reptiles for viewing pleasures. Low and behold, who do I see? A gator with part of it’s right claw gone. I was so Pissed
Ktown was even more pissed, hanging over the rails, screaming, “YOU SONOFABITCH! YOU KILLED MY DOG!” I just remember thinking " I thought these animals are born and raised in captivity" Bullshit!

No way anyone thinks the Bears win fewer than 8 games
split with the packers, split with the vikings, arizona, pittsburgh, ravens is probably the minimum amount of loses a non bears fan homer would see.
throw in a tough seattle road game, the falcons that they lost to last year and a philly team they barely beat on national tv and its pretty easy.
the national audience saw them squeek out wins against the saints, packers and eagles; they easily put the bears a couple games worse than their record says.
kind of like how bears fans are overvaluing the second place nfc north team and undervaluing the first place team.

i can see 11 wins...
and only if we win some of the big games on the schedule. so let’s see… and i’m just tossing it out there so to all you ‘Super" enthusiasts, EASY DOES IT… i’ll save the harder ones for last.
here we go:
division games: sweep lions and split with minn and green bay. +3
@ atl – paybacks a biatch!!! +1
@ cin- high flying nail biter, but a victory in the end +1
cle – enough said… +1
stl – ditto!!!! +1
@ sea- tough to win there but i kinda favor our boys +1
@sf – kinda wish this game was last year, OT win +1
that’s 9 wins right there. sooooooooooooo… between pit, ari, phi and bal left on the schedule, if we’re as good as we think we are, we’ll have to find a way to split those games. definitely more than 8, and if we were to sweep gb, that’s the, in my opinion, elusive 12th win.

The Packers???
Why is Vegas and everyone else in the sports world so in love with the Packers? What have they really done to improve outside of the draft? They were a sub-500 team last year and while Rodgers had a decent year, he also had trouble leading them into the endzone when it counted. They are moving to a whole new defensive scheme, which may or may not work. Their running back is inconsistent, yet almost everyone picks them for more wins than the Bears. The ESPN idiots always pick them or the Vikings to win the division even after the Cutler trade. I don’t get it.

OVER
the bears should definitely be over. But what I dont understand is how they see 3 of the four teams in the same division with almost the exact same record. The Packers will give us the most trouble. And even if the Vikes get Favre who cares he is old and washed up, look at what he did in N Y. NADA!!!! He is an interception machine and should have stayed retired when he said he was retired. My perfect example is Michael Jordan. Anyone remember him and his retirement saga. He came back for the love of the game but would only play for 23 mil a year. And he was no where near as good as when he left. If you feel old enough to retire than you should stay that way. So Favre is no worry. And the Lions they will need a miracle to be good. They r in Detroit. Nothing good will come fro that area of the country for a while. lol.

Michael Jordan was nowhere near what he was from the first 3peat to the second 3peat?
When he went to the Wizards he was nowhere near the same, but the second 3peat? Come on dude. Lets just leave Michael Jordan alone for now and stick with the bears. i don’t see it being that close as far as Green Bay winning 9 games and Minny winning 10. Football is just one of those games where besides the sure locks with teams with every facet of their game tremendous like the Pats, Steelers, Colts, 90’s boys, 90’s Bills, etc etc i don’t see Minny winning as many games as they did last year and i see Green Bay maybe winning 2 or 3 more than last year and with our additions i truly believe we will end up 11-5. Queens just don’t do as good this year as they did last year. Print this reply and hang it up, i have an uncanny feeling about this.
However if it turns out to be the opposite and Bears end up 4-12 or whatever then i will come back here next year and say the same thing. 11-5 NFC North Champs. We can’t predict everything, noone knows what will happen for sure but like i said, i got a Miss Cleo feeling.
by Chitownproduct on May 7, 2009 5:50 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
If they get
8, do you just get your money back? I don’t see them winning 7 or fewer games.
I think the Vikings and Lions got better this off-season. The Packers didn’t do much to improve, but I think they were better than their record indicated, so they should get a bump this year. So I think Vegas may be taking into consideration that the division, as a whole, got better this year.
If you predict, say, 6 wins for the Lions and 8 for the Pack, that’s 9 extra wins, and some of those will come in the division. And I think it should be recognized that the Bears were a very, very bad version of a 7 win team last year. They had a real coup in picking up Cutler and redoing the O-line, but they still lack WRs. So 8 is probably a good number. But I’ll take the over.
But really, do you have to got o Vegas to lay money on this, or is there a legal site you can do it on? I’d put some money on it, if nothing else to make me cheer harder this year.
DEJESUS!!!

I could see the under.
We play some tough teams, Seattle, Arizona, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, Atlanta. If we lose those 6 games and lose to each division rival once we’ll be 7-9.

first non-homer comment all day
thank you for the reality check and showing these grabowski’s why the line is 8 and not 12.

Oh come on chad
Just cuz you were right last year doesn’t mean you’ll be right this year. 8 wins? Even I believe that they’ll have at least 9 or 10…..and I’m the blog’s token cynic.
I'M A MAN! I'M 22!

no, i'm saying public perception
that is what this is based on.
i am between 10 and 11 wins right now. i’ll wait until pre-season to see how the young receivers develop before i make my prediction.
having said that, the public won’t see it that way and I think there will be split opinion over the bear’s season record

The public opinion has hated on the Bears forever.
Besides 2006 when we had bandwagon people come out of the woodwork from different states and even different countries. The fact is the general football public always thought the bears weren’t any good and 2006 was the biggest fluke. Do they have a good reason to think that? Of course they do. We have not been a good team traditionally the last 20+years. However those same people don’t take the time to look at our improvements and our draft and our wins and losses we had last year to make an objective opinion, unless those people are Bears fans. I could ask the average person walking the street of any city heck even Chicago and most people would not be able to name me 8 players on the Bears Defense. Maybe even 6. So the GP can bet their money on under 8 wins all they want..but they won’t be getting that new 46’ inch HDTV any time soon.

I hope that's a trend
We belong in the limelight. I hope Jay Cutler has started a media snowball effect that never lets up for seasons to come.

WOW, I think I'm speechless
I was in Vegas a couple of weeks ago and if I had known this, I probably would have laid down a couple grand on the over. It’s just ludacris, maybe they got the viqueens and the Bears mixed up. No one is that stupid…
WCG!!! Finally a site for people like me. We noble men who hate everything to the North, South, East and West of Chicago.
