Lions sign Larry Foote..... Worried?

The Lions today signed Ex- Steeler Larry Foote, adding to what is quickly becoming a dangerous defense.

With the addition of Foote, the Lions now have Him, Ernie Sims and Julian Peterson as Linebackers.

They also signed Grady Jackson DT and Phillip Buchanon CB and Anthony Henry CB as well as Eric King CB.

With their additions from the Draft on offense and the improvements on defense....

Are the Lions Dangerous?

How’s that movement to make Samardzija the Cubs’ closer workin’ out for you?

How about we move to make him our

wide reciever?

Samardzija

He still has a good baseball career ahead of him once the Cubs realize he is a reliever and not a starter. He will have a longer and more financially rewarding career in baseball. Smart move on his part to give up football.

There is no reason

to not think JefF7 is going to continue to suck. Pitchers without control and a second pitch, generally aren’t getting MLB hitters out.

Hey leave Spellcheck alone...

He’s still a young guy, I have faith that he’ll figure it out. And he was pretty solid last season so I think he’ll keep getting better as long as we leave him in AAA to get some work in.

Samardzija

No reason to think he cannot get it together and be a quality big league pitcher. He demonstrated last year he has a big league arm. BTW, he does have two quality pitches, his mid 90s heater and a quality slider, but you are correct he does need to get better command. As a Cub fan, I hope they stop trying to make him into a starter and let him focus on being a reliever.

I hope not

but the signings appear solid….better than some signings or trades I have seen in the past…Adam Archuleta cough cough…..they might surprise this year.

On second thought…nah its just the Lions lol

I am a little…

The Lions might have improved to a 4 or 5 win team. Maybe. But that certainly doesn’t make them dangerous.

What does that text box mean?
Two disjointed statements….

We play them Wk 17 and if we are not wrapped up…. then yeah they are dangerous.

I failed at using the reply button, first of all.

Second of all, your question at the end of your post was Are the Lions Dangerous?

My answer was nope.

Your reply was I am.

Then, I saw the title of the article and realized that we were answering different questions

Third of all, if the Lions are the only thing that stand between us and the North in Week 17, and they beat us, then screw Lovie and Ron. Just because we would be in a must-win situation though doesn’t make the Lions dangerous.

I think that the Lions have gotten alot better this off-season.

Not only will the Lions be better, but the whole damn division just went from average to “holy shit”. I might be wrong and only time will tell. By the way, I still think the Bears will win our division next year and the sweet taste of victory will be better than ever against real competition.

lol, can't get any worse can they

or maybe that is possible. Run toward the wrong endzone a couple times and go 0-16.

They are on the right track......

They will still suck next year and probably the next 3 for that matter. That being said, the moves they have made are that of a solid rebuilding team. Solidify the O-line and watch out…

by Rbmann21 on May 8, 2009 6:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Anyone post stats

On how many sacks the Lions O-line gave up last year? How many the gave up to the bears?

!

by Qgee on May 7, 2009 10:37 AM CDT up reply actions

The Lions also may be giving up on Drew Stanton

in order to bring in a veteran. Linky, linky.

If that’s the case… and it happens, I’d sign Stanton immediately to compete with Hanie and BB. Stanton’s got the goods.

I like me some Drew Stanton.

The kid is super intelligent and a competitor. When the Lions picked him in the draft, I thought, “There goes his career.”

If the Lions do release him, Id agree in bringing him in for #2 competition. In a heartbeat.

I bet Jay Cutler being a Bear...

Scares the Lions and the rest of the NFC North a lot more than Foote & Stafford combined. The only player on the Lions that I would want is the big man, Calvin Johnson. Poor guy has to be on the Lions.

Any Given Sunday

any team that takes the Lions lightly this year would be foolish. I see them having better personnel and much more fight and confidence this year. Last season, I think teams could overlook the Lions, start preparing for the next opponent, and get away with it. This year their new coaches should be able to keep them hungry and motivated. That being said, they should still finish among the leagues worst teams.

by gillrowdy on May 7, 2009 8:17 AM CDT reply actions

five of the games last year

were lost by a touchdown or less. yes, a bunch were blowouts, but they were in some win-able games. i think a lot of people thought they could sleep on the dolphins last year too. i’m not nearly as concerned with matt stafford as i am with a healthy and fit daunte culpepper. call him washed up if you want, but i don’t know. so, those 5 win-able games, add to that the fact that a team or two will in fact overlook them, and the fact that, at least on paper, they are a much better team. i could realistically see 7-8 wins this year for them.

by windycity72 on May 7, 2009 9:03 AM CDT up reply actions

Foote and Peterson

Are solid but starting to age, King has 0 career INTs. Jackson hasn’t been dominate in like 6 years and hasn’t played 16 games since 2006, Buchannon is solid, Henry I’d be worried about if we still had Rexy.

Lions' D = Dangerous?

They seem to be moving in the right direction. I am a Bears fan, but I would like to see the Lions become a respectable team again. Detroit has suffered enough.

Wow

My internet is out for 2 days and out come the Duke bashers. I hate DSL.

And Badger and Illini guys, come on. Your schools enrollments are some of the biggest in the country and are four times the size of Dukes. Duke has ten NCAA national championships with the first being in 1986. Illinois has won over 25 but only two since 1958 and those were tennis and gymnastics. Wisconsin does have 27 NCAA national championships,15 of those are boxing and cross country and your recent success is in men’s and mostly women’s hockey. So other than the Illini’s illustrious but ancient football connection to my beloved Bears, neither school presents something I would trade for three national championships in my lifetime, and a sweet sixteen guarantee every year.

Duke does not suck.

by Hurricanes becoming Bears on May 10, 2009 3:50 AM CDT up reply actions

Because Duke's a private school that can be more selective in who they accept.

Also, what’s the money-back part of your Sweet 16 guarantee? B/c I’d be asking for it in return for the past few seasons.

Besides, It’s Great… To Be… A Florida Gator… I Said It’s Great… To Be…

by bdalebs on May 10, 2009 12:59 PM CDT up reply actions

So a smaller enrollment is an advantage?

If we are talking academics I would totally agree, but we are not. We are talking about whether Duke sucks. Even so, Dukes enrollment is small even for a private university. And Duke competes yearly in some sports but mainly in mens basketball. Since 1998, Duke has missed the sweet sixteen twice. After 2006, Duke graduated a national championship caliber team and the McDonald’s All-Americans coming in didn’t turn out as well as most (Josh McRoberts, Greg Paulus) and they struggled with a young team but still managed to make the tourney. Duke’s mens basketball team has 21 regular season conference championships, 21 conference tournament championships, 33 NCAA tournament appearances, 24 sweet sixteens, 17 elite eights, 14 final fours, 9 national championship games and 3 national championships. Dukes success in mens basketball is enough to say Duke does not suck. You can say it all you want, but it just ain’t true.

And yes, it is difficult to ignore the recent success of Florida and LSU. But you have to admit, having 50,000 plus students is an advantage.

I don't know if the rules about athletic department scholarships apply to private schools.

My logic is that if they are accepting less applicants, they’d be able to bring in more kids on scholarships.
