Hasslebeck rips Plax on NFL Live
On today's NFL Live, Tim Hasslebeck spoke about Plaxico Burress and had nothing positive to say about his addition to any team. The story began with coverage on Plaxico's "posse" being denied from entering a New York nightclub. They were turned away from entering because of the guns they brought to the club the night Plaxico shot himself. They then showed a clip of what Tim Hasslebeck spoke of regarding his own playing experience with Burress. He was a teammate with Plax for two years and went on to say what basically translates as being horrible for any locker room. I tried to find a video link for everyone to check it out but I couldn't find one. What I can recall off the top of my head was along the lines of: he was late for meetings, wouldn't run full speed at practice, and would actually leave the field during games if he wasn't getting the ball. I know there was more but that is all i can think of without actually watching it again.
This was all unsettling to hear because I've been a supporter of Plax during all of our conversations between whether to get him or not. I kept wanting to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and didn't think that a one-year deal would hurt to check him out but you never like to hear things like that. I know the guy would be a huge upgrade to our WR core and I would love his talent to be on the field but I really don't want his character to come with it if that is truly the person he is. Our team can win right now and I'm confident in that, we don't need to try and take that "extra step"in acquiring a big name WR this early into getting our franchise quarterback if it means hurting our locker room. I'm not going to completely turn on the guy right now because of what I've seen but he has definitely hurt his value to me. Besides, anyone who has a "posse" is kind of a douche anyway.

He did it again today?
Jeff Dickerson had this piece about Hasselbeck and Plax that occurred on Tuesday’s NFL Live.
I'M A MAN! I'M 23!
Those are some pretty strong
Criticisms of him and those are why I do not want him for this team. Since he was in Pittsburgh there has been talk of him going slow at practice. He is a bad teammate.

you gotta remember the source...
a career back-up(and a SHORT career at that), riding on the family coat-tails, who was probably mad that plax wouldn’t play catch with him… as i mentioned before, i’d like to hear from tiki or strahan…
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.
it's not really cherry picking...
it’s more like tossing out the bad apple…

Agreed windycity72...
I pretty much try and ignore everything Dilfer and Tim Hasselbeck say
I would really like to hear what other people have to say about him too.
This is the first that I’ve heard from a former teammate. Plax was probably a lot younger when he was Tim Hasslebeck’s teammate but I don’t like hearing that a 31 year old man still has a “posse.” I don’t think he should have been out at a club to get in trouble when he has a wife and kid at home in the first place but I want to hear more from other sources before I say he’s not worth a try.

from his REAL QB:
“I just hope the best for Plaxico,” said Eli Manning, who had the locker next to Burress the last four years. “The guy helped us win a championship. I hope that he can turn his life around and get back on the right page. He was a pal of mine and a great locker mate and a great player for us. But things just occurred and now we move on.”

I see your point
But I am more inclined to take what Hasslebeck says more so than Eli mostly because Eli is still in the NFL and can’t start chucking ex-teammates under the bus because that would reflect poorly in the lockerroom and I bet there is sort of an unspoken rule about that sort of stuff. Didn’t Eli take the high road when Tiki trashed him too?

i get what you're saying, but...
it’s what eli didn’t say, the part that i high-lighted that spoke volumes to me, more than anything else that was actually said…

that was exactly it thanks.
I just didn’t hear it until today and it really caught my attention about thinking twice about Plax.

Cool, that was in the Den.
C’mon man, you gotta read the Den!

Now im really embarrassed
I do read the den, I actually look forward to it each day when I get up to see if there is any new news. Been busy with school lately, I’ll blame college. I’m fighting to graduate by August.

No worries dude.
Engraduating is much more pressing than wasting time on the interwebs. Good luck!

Plax is an arrogant guy who is probably past his prime
He’s a great receiver, with a big-time attitude. I say, wait and see how our in-house guys develop before we hit the panic button and go after a guy like Burress.
I wouldn't worry
A guy Like Cutler would put him in his place.

Isn't it "Hasselbeck"?

It wasn't just calling you out...
…I really wasn’t sure… lol. :)

Very productive.
Either contribute something better or stay over at NN.

I agree..
With the perspective that says this is a red flag. I take this much more seriously than the comments of Dungy or Da Coach w/ regards to Cutler simply because Hasselbeck played with Burress and knows him.
That said, I also take it with a grain of salt. ESPN analysts get very little of my respect these days. I feel like they make sensationalist comments in order to create controversy and draw attention to themselves and their media network.
who "snaps off" on players like that???
those scenarios are few and FAR between… i was floored by the way he responded… sounded WAY MORE EMOTIONAL than anything else… at least IMHO…

Sounded personnel to me too.
NY is where my concern lies for Plax, not a has been that barely was.
Hasselbeck said what?!?
Give the guy some credit, he IS an extremely talented and respected QB around the league. He was an understudy to one of the greatest QB’s ever to don an NFL jersey. Not to mention leading his team to how many consecutive divisional titles and the ‘05 Superbowl. He’s also represented the NFC in three Pro Bowl appearances and he… what… What was that?!? Tim, did you say Tim? Ohhhh, Tim Hasselbeck, who the hell cares about what he has to say?

His locker room presence clearly didnt hurt them all that bad

all i'm saying is this...
his lack of presence lost them 3 out of 4 season games, and 1 playoff game… so. you tell me… did he help or didn’t he???

Plaxico A Bear?
No Way! The Bears steer clear of players like this as an organization. Does anybody remember Tank Johnson? Cedric ’ The Entertainer’ Benson? Plaxico is a Punk and the Bears will not want him in their locker room. You can take that one to the bank!
Does anyone have a link?
To see the video of this blasphemy?
