I LOVE IT! Go for it and do yourself another favor. You’ve caught the fever Chicago, “high stakes is fun!” They need to be reunited so help them along and enjoy yourselves at the same time. I may be a Cowboys fan, but I love that tandem…JUST DO IT!!!!

I can’t wait for my trip to Chicago in a couple of months!

Marshall has way too many off-the-field issues, even if he did well when he played with Cutler...

The Bears will never sign a guy who draws that much attention to himself – not as long as Angelo is in Chicago. I wouldn’t be too surprised to see him end up in Dallas or Oakland, though.

by JimmyMack on Jun 23, 2009 8:22 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for the reply. I wouldn’t be surprised if he landed in Dallas either. There are alot of players that have changed teams and they haven’t created anymore problems. Everyone deserves a chance to re-invent themselves and he’s no different. I had no problem with the Cutler trade because I think he needed a change of atmosphere too. I hope Marshall gets his chance because I’ve always made it a point to not buy into the negative stuff written about both of them. He should have his day in court like anyone else. Denver seems to be bent on getting rid of talent instead of retaining it…that’s a unique way to run a team.

(Marshall) should have his day in court like anyone else.

Isn’t the problem that he’s already been having plenty of legal issues? Or, at least, brushes with the law?

"They tried to take out the quarterback, and if they managed that, they tried to take out the backup." - Bears SB20 TE Emery Moorehead, on the mentality of *that* defense

by Spongie on Jun 23, 2009 12:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The Larry Mayer article echos just about everything I've written about WRs here in the last month
"I know that there is going to be a lot of talk about [acquiring] a No. 1 receiver," the Bears general manager said at the time. "[But] it starts with the quarterback. It’s all about the quarterback. You don’t win because of wide receivers. You don’t win because of running backs. You win because of the quarterback."

Cutler seemingly proved Angelo’s theory that the quarterback-makes-the-receiver the past few seasons with the Broncos. In Cutler’s first full year as a starter in 2007, Brandon Marshall, a fourth-round draft pick, caught 102 passes, the third most by a second-year player in NFL history. And then last season, Eddie Royal, a second-round choice, had 91 receptions as a rookie.

Marshall was the 14th wide receiver chosen in the 2006 draft (119th overall). The nine wideouts taken immediately before him were Travis Wilson, Derek Hagan, Brandon Williams, Maurice Stovall, Willie Reid, Brad Smith, Cory Rodgers, Jason Avant and Demetrius Williams.

Cutler isn’t the only example of a great quarterback making his receivers into elite players.

The Packers didn’t spend a first-round draft pick on a wideout until Brett Favre’s 11th season in Green Bay. But the future Hall of Famer made stars out of second-rounder Robert Ferguson, third-rounders Robert Brooks and Antonio Freeman, and seventh-rounder Donald Driver.

Dan Marino had a similar impact on eighth-rounder Mark Clayton with the Miami Dolphins, Joe Montana helped transform 10th-rounder Dwight Clark into a hero with the San Francisco 49ers, and John Elway fueled the development of sixth-rounder Mark Jackson with the Broncos.

"You win because of the quarterback. We have to get that position stabilized. We're fixated on that." -- Jerry Angelo (12.30.2008)

Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)

My sentiments exactly Sack

Rarely do WRs make QBs better, but almost always good QBs make average WRs look great.

Marshall

He isn’t worth a first round pick cause of his off the field issues, and it can be construed that he is severely overrated. His YPA (yards per attempt) was only 7.6 or something, which was one of the lowest in the league. If I were a GM, I’d only offer the Donkeys a 2nd rounder at best.

I agree

There is no question in my mind, that Cutler made him and not the other way. Yes, Marshall had over a 100 catches. To do a Chris Rock spin, “You’re supposed to catch the ball”.
With Cutler hitting the hands (as often as I think he will), it won’t take long to figure out who has hands on this team and who doesn’t.

Good point

I agree that the Bears will find out quickly who’ll emerge as “go to guys” at WR. For some reason, I can see Davis proving everyone wrong on this site. He has been shifted back to the role (slot) where he had his most success.

I must admit,

I have made my share of Rashied jokes. That being said, I wouldn’t be shocked if he did rebound. The joke is he can’t catch. Other than that, I don’t know of any other flaws in his game. Davis fixes that…… he’s immediately a big asset.

My point

He was known to have good hands before last year, and my theory at least, is that he was tentative on the outside cause he had to learn a new position.

Point taken

You live in Colorado right? Do you know anyone with some pull at Red Rocks?

by rdent4hof on Jun 24, 2009 7:15 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sounds like a blast.

And good for you for being at that show. I’ve never been to Red Rocks or The Gorge (in Washington St.). Those two venues are at the top of my must see list. Family and economy will keep me from doing anything in the immediate future, but a little bit further down the road…… I’m in!

I saw DMB in ‘98 or ’99 while heavily medicated, and it was unbelievable! I don’t believe that was the live recording, but a the prior tour.

Red Rocks

rdent4hof- No, unfortunately I don’t know anyone that works there, but it’s the best venue I’ve been to. I’m seeing Wilco there on July 3rd.

That's awesome...

I am slowly knocking a list out of bands I want to see. Wilco is one of my all-time favorites. I wonder how it will be considering Jay Bennett passed recently…

Probably not much

They’ve been split for awhile now, and both went in different directions after YHF. I just recently got back from the Telluride Bluegrass Fest this past weekend; another great Colorado venue. Who else are trying to knock out?

Colorado is awesome

When I think Colorado, I think brewery’s, winter sports, scenery, and poor guy to girl ratio… lol Also the venues: Red Rocks, Telluride, The Fillmore, Fiddler’s Green…. (I’ve been to Fiddler’s & Fillmore) If I ever move from KY, it would be for Colorado!

by rdent4hof on Jun 25, 2009 7:58 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

And another +

In Colorado I wouldn’t have bluegrass withdraw……. musical or recreational…LOL

Lol

The girl to guy ratio is fine in the Denver area, but up in the mountains it’s like 6-1. You know, girls don’t tend to like the cold too much.

Telluride

this past weekend it was 70 and sunny during the day, and in the 30s at night. There’s usually a difference of 15 degrees from the sun to the shade.

Oh well...

No biggie. Thanks anyway.
Wilco on the 3rd sounds like good times. I’ve got a few friends that will be there for the upcoming Phish shows. Hopefully all goes well and the band, doesn’t get band again…
