Pro Bowl 2010?

The Chicago Bears have plenty of talent on the roster, and several players have been to the Pro Bowl in their careers.  We have seen a ton of new faces added to the offense, and can expect a new perspective from the coaching ranks on defense.  Special teams have never disappointed, and I don't expect that to change in 2009.

With all of the "newness" that we will see in 2009, I am wondering how it might affect the production on both sides of the ball.  Many of us think that the offense may sputter early on until we can get into a good groove.  And a lot of folks think that the defense may not be able to produce as much success as previous years.

That being said, we definitely have a ton of Pro Bowl caliber players.  Who can we expect to see in Miami from our 2009 roster?

take off the blinders bro

Hester O.K. Cutler could but I don’t think so cause that bumm Favre will get 1 spot just because he’s farve. You have to think that Warner is going to get 1 spot don’t you I mean look at his 3 rec’s. You still have a manning a Delhome, possibly a Ryan in ATL to think about, there’s a guy in GB that is probably going to get a few looks assuming he is going to keep getting better, Romo will get more votes just because the TV networks throw the Cowboys at us every week, McNabb is WAYYYYYYYY better than Cutler at this time also. And I don’t think a QB that has changed teams has ever made the pro-bowl his first year with the new team if it has happened before I’m not aware of it unless Joe Montana did it with the Chief’s and Cutler is def no Joe montana at least not yet. Faizamaze No way possible on Pace bro he’s too old and too injury prone nowwa days sorry it’s just a fact of life. And do you really think all 3 LB’s are going from 1 team has that ever happened? Even the Steelers of the 70’s couldn’t do that! Urlacher only guys sorry maybe briggs if he can stay healthy! wether you want to admit it or not the Giants will send at least 1 I think the Vikes will send 1, hope the lions have at least 1 with Simms and now Peterson; who is already a pro-bowler; on our quad, I’d think the East in general will send at least 2 just because; the powers that be; think the East is the toughest division in the NFC, Someone from the south will get 1 most likely just because their 4 teams were all in the playoff hunt last year and will probably be again this year.

i don't think so

To be honest with you guys, but Delhome seems to be good every other year, I am not a fan of his by no means But he does have a homerun threat in Steve Smith who did miss the first part of last year and still had a descent season, I do think Cutler can be better than him but I felt I had to mention him cause he has been a pro-bowler in the past. The weird thing I just realized is that I left off Culpepper who Is back with the O-cordinator that he had in Min where he had his best seasons of his career and he does have Megatron to throw the ball to, not saying he will be there cause most of the Pride of Detroit thinks he will be ousted by week 8,I don’t but I understand why everyone else thinks that.

i can see briggs, sizzle, olsen, and possibly forte...

no way we get more than that unless we go DEEP into the playoffs….

Windy

Even thou you seem to hate me because I’m a lions fan I think you are real close the only one I disagree with/or you could add is Urlacher, he has alot of clout around the league, teams are still afraid of him more so than Briggs and he is kind of the face of your D-fence.

by davis0169 on Jun 27, 2009 11:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I DON'T HATE YOU...

i hate trolls, son!!! i step out of WCG every once in a while, but i don’t cross the lines… football speak is football speak, but numbers speak volumes! and with that being said, it’s hard to take a lions fan seriously…

your post to Geaux was on point… sort off. “archie manning, jr.” is GARBAGE, and was blessed with a GREAT team, delhomme is a game manager… i won’t hate on DNABB cuz he’s from the chi, but, after 10 years of playoffs and no bowl? even the philly fans won’t vote him in! romo can’t finish, and whatever you wanna’ say about T.O., it was on romo not to f#@k up, and what does he do again and again? f#@k up. ryan is the only wildcard here… and if he can get in his first year(alternate) why wouldn’t cutler(a previous pro-bowler) do it in his first year on a new team???

no hate, just “HOME”… and i don’t need a visitor’s pass… but seriously, you had to expect some trash talk… i mean, come on!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.

oh most definitely

I just didn’t realize I was going to be under such scrutiny, You are right that Cutler is a form’r Bowl’r himself but it is very rare for a QB to go to new team and learn all that goes with it in terms of learning the language and getting on the same page with the wideouts and all, thatis why I think that Cutler wont make it THIS year, when you add all that and unless someone steps up and can be that BIG WR to streatch the field vertically like he had in Denver I think that he is going to struggle this year, I know you guys are all hyped up on Hester but he hasn’r proven that he can stay healthy for a entire season in 2 years now, and assuming that he is alo going to be the return guy on special teamshe is going to get hit so many more times this year I just don’t see him being on the field for more than 3/4ths of the season.

by davis0169 on Jun 28, 2009 2:23 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

he missed one game!!!

that’s speaking of hester of course… see, this is why i don’t like your BS!!! you tell me… when is the last time ANY TEAM traded a pro-bowler… even before his prime?!?!?!?! this is ground-braking… and you don’t seem to realize it!!! you can’t compare this to any other move you have EVER SEEN IN YOUR LIFE… cuz’ you, i, we ,them , they, never have!!!

I just don’t see him being on the field for more than 3/4ths of the season.

if forte was 33% of our offense last year, i’ll take hester being on the field 75% of the time ALL DAY!!!!!!!!!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.

O.K. windy

No you are right this is untread water, the only guy I can think of that was a All-star, in his prime to be trded wasn’t even in this sport and that was the GREAT 1 Wayne Gretzke and he like Cutler DEMANDED to be traded although for different reasons, Cutler because he was tabbed in the back an #99 because he wanted to be closer to his wifes job. In football I would say Joe Montana is the closest thing we have to compare this too and he had like 2 more years in KC before he left the lime-light.

now that the wife is done with the comp.

I can continue with my point. Was cutler a bowler yes I can’t take that away from him. SHOULD he have been a bowler last year NO he shouln’t have been. Like I said I cant take it away from him but there is no way he should of been. Brady doesn’t go down in week 1 Cutler is out already. Cutler was a 500. QB last year peiod. He wasnt even the best QB in the ACF west for that matter that should of went to P. Rivers who DID get his team into the playoffs with a RB who played on a bad wheel last year, A TE who is probably the best in the game right now also playing the entire season on a bad wheel, and Rivers only had 1 rec even worth a damn on the roster in SD. If my Lions would of traded for him instead of drafting Stafford I would probably be as adament as you are but the fact is you traded forprobably the 5th best QB in the AFC at best last year, is it an upgrade from Orton . . . .Yes is it the block buster you want to beleave it is. . . . .no! You guys gave up WAYYYYYYY to much to get him. How Jay got in over Big BEN is still a mystery to me oh thats right he turned it down to play in the Superbowl. So you can sit there and screem at the top of the mountain how you have a pro-bowl QB but it was only by Default to begin with. If Cutler was so good last year how come he couldn’t win the one game that mattered the most to the Bronco’s last year? And I’m refering to the last game of the year when Rivers and the Chargers outplayed the entire Bronco’s team.? And I can keep going if you want me too.

Other than Pisa

I wouldn’t be shocked. I like your list. Hester, with Cutler throwing the ball could put up some nasty numbers.
Lets remember, having a pro-bowl added to your name isn’t as difficult to get as once was. Since I can remember, the number of players opting out of the Pro Bowl seems to increase every year.

This allows for a higher number of Pro Bowlers to be named.

And barring injuries, this team is going DEEP into the playoffs PERIOD.Period.period.

Go out on a limb

I’m calling for Tillman to have a big year, and shock everyone by going to Miami. I don’t think Culter makes it cause of his and everyone else’s reputation at QB. Romo, Brees, McNabb, Warner, Rodgers could all be ahead of him. The rest…

Briggs
Kreutz
Hester (as a returner)
Forte

darkhorses- Pace and Omiyale.

hester

although it is somewhat of a darkhorse, i think hester can get in as a WR this year. fitzgerald will still get in but boldin won’t. steve smith won’t, carolina doesn’t have a QB. roddy white? nah, matty ice is in for a sophomore slump. burress is out, so why not? cutler can make it happen, that being said he won’t make it because his stats will be down overall but i think he will actually play better than last year.

forte – again because of help from cutler
briggs – of course
pace – if he can stay healthy the bears’ increased offensive production will get him in because of name recognition
wale – what the hell, another darkhorse. contract year, someone has to step up on the line. harris will still be limited so i don’t think he’s in.

yeah, 5’s a lot but if i hit 4 of them i’d say that’s pretty good.

by genetic on Jun 25, 2009 1:15 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

oh yeah

and i would like to toss olsen in there but sorry, i just can’t fathom a bears team with 4 offensive probowlers. if my hester darkhorse doesn’t work olsen will replace him. i’m not sure if that’s allowed but hey, you didn’t post any rules.

AH no to Hester as a WR

Here are 2 that WILL be in front of him, Calvin Johnson who DID get shafted last year putting up 1300+ yards with 5 different QB’s throwing the ball to him.Jennings is way more pollished and is a true #1 in GB. Here are some others that have a better shot in no particular order: Steve Smith if you think Hester is better than him your fooling yourself, cause it’s the same QB that has been throwing him the ball for a few years and thisyear he sont be sitting out the first handful of games. Roddy White Possibly but I think Hester is better than him but wont be able to put up the #‘s that he can especially now that they added another weapon in Gonzo.Possibly Roy Williams but being a lions fan I wouldn’t vote for that alligator armed bumm. V-queen fans seem to think that their rookie is going to be all-that even thou I have never seen a Florida gator WR do anything in the NFL. The Saints have another one in Colston assunming that he can stay healthy. Reguardless if you like him or not Boldin is a beast at WR I don’t like him but I’ll give him his prop’s.The Sea-hawks now have Mooosh to go along with Branch or Burleson with those 3 thou it all depends on the back of Hasselbach; man if his name isn’t an oxi-moron; hassel back. Hester will go pending injury but not as a receiver and do you guys as Bears fans really want him to be a rec AND returner thats gong to be a TON of hits on a guy that hasn’t stayed healthy as solely a return man the last 2 years, he isn’t a big guy to begin with.

About Hester
a guy that hasn’t stayed healthy as solely a return man the last 2 years

Cause he’s only missed one game in three years.
Seattle got Houshmanzadah, not Muhammed.
And Hasselbeck, even if it was spelled b"a"ck and was two words, is not an oxymoron. An oxymoron is a phrase that seemingly contradicts itself, like “political integrity” or “Detroit football”

Williams at RT actually worries me some

I don’t know a hell of a lot about him, but everything I read on him coming out of Vandy said he was a natural pass blocker, but struggled at times with the run which is why they projected him at the LT spot. They said he doesnt have the leg drive or the nastiness to be a top-caliber road grater type. I hope like hell he works out for us.

?????

I am just curious here rdent4hof, even if his arms were 7 ft long isn’t it more about footwork with tackles more so than arm length?

by davis0169 on Jun 28, 2009 2:35 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Long arms are considered beneficial

as long as you’ve got good hand-pop to go with it. When you’ve got long arms and get them extended properly, it keeps the defender from getting into your body. When you’re pass blocking, you don’t have forward momentum after your initial burst, so keeping them at a distance helps kill some of their momentum/leverage. If they get into you, it’s a lot easier for them to rush through you or around you, or even just knock drive you back into the play.

ah, thank you

so does footwork not count for anything at the tackle position, cause if you guys remember when Tony (Basselli?) came out about 10-20 years ago thats what Kiper and his junkies where constantly talking about and most Tackles for that matter they seem to always want to mention footwork. I have never really truly understood why 1 guy can be a can’t miss and the next guy always has a problem weather it’s he’s a good run blocker but needs to improve at pass-blocking or vise-versa. I have always felt that if a guy can play at tackle he is just a REALLY big man that can get out of the block quick and knows how to put his body in between the d-lineman and his QB for more than 5 sec’s

by davis0169 on Jun 29, 2009 3:34 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No footwork is important too.

Not trying to dismiss it by any means.

I like you guys

Not in that man crush kind of way, but I really like you guys! You are alright in my book, not that that means much; me being a lions fan and all.

At least you're cognizant of your deficiencies.

That’s the first step to overcoming them…

My dark horse is Kevin Payne now you might say he will have a little bit more trouble then last year because we are missing are best saftey of the decade but the first 8 games of last year he was playing at a Pro Bowl level

by bears rock on Jun 25, 2009 3:49 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

And i thought

Us lions fans were bias. The BEST safety of the decade you do know there are 2 in the same division in the AFC that are better right? Polamala and Ed Reed and that’s just the AFC north. I realize that 1 is a free safety and 1 is a strong saftety.

by davis0169 on Jun 28, 2009 12:07 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Hmmm...

I think Cutler has some more Pro Bowl years ahead of him, but 2009 isn’t going to be one of them. Pace has a chance at making it IF he stays healthy.

Offense: Forte and Olsen, possibly Kreutz
Defense: Briggs and Urlacher
Special Teams: Gould

Dark Horse: Mark Anderson

Okay guys...

Another question… lol. What’s a dark horse? Thanks. :)

A less than likely player to be a pro-bowler

Ex. Villanova could’ve been considered a “darkhorse” in this year’s NCAA tournament.

That's kind of insensitive.

I believe the correct term is African-American horse. We don’t need Wittenmyer decrying all Bears fans as racist, along with Cubs fans.

it can't come soon enough!!!

i’ve been spending ALOT of time over at nfl.com videos… going through the list of videos, one by one, anything football!!! i’m like a crack junkie right now going thru DTs!!!

Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.

It's worse for us.

Imagine being a crack head

Dealer: Bro, I got this sh** that will blow the back of your head off! I promise, You’ve never ever seen anything like it.

Crack Head: Man that is sweet, I’ve been needing an extra boost for a couple of years now. That mediocre sh** just doesn’t cut it anymore.

Dealer: So your ready for some then?

Crack Head: Hell ya, let me get some.

Dealer: No problem, I’ll see you in two and a half months. Between now and then, here’s some near crack to hold you over.

by rdent4hof on Jun 28, 2009 9:40 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

EXACTLY!!! all my "near-football" isn't cutting it anymore...

i’m always excited for football, but for some reason(hmm…), i’m crawling out of my skin this year!!! i just can’t wait for that steelers game, i think that game will answer ALOT of questions for us. if we somehow manage to pull that game off(i envision an OT field goal to shock the world champs), i’ll feel alot better thinking about the minny, baltimore, and eagles games… but, that, to me, is our measuring stick.

WOW

You guys re just as funny as we are over in the Pride when it comes to getting on someone for a mistake. I love it! Now I know this isn’t the best place to ask this but Windycity you made a comment about looking at Video and all is that just Bears related video or is it ALL video from the NFL. The reason i ask is that we;over in th pride that is; have found video clips of Barry Sanders Jr who is very scary to watch in those clips of his High school games you guys might enjoy them or might get sick cause they also show Sr. running in games and I am sorry to say this but your Bears are in alot of those clips.

Cutler
Forte
Hester (KR, but I think he is going to have a breakout year at wr next year)
Briggs

I think Olsen will be good next year, and I think he will be in many pro bowls to come but not next year. Urlacher, Harris, Kreutz could be in it too.

LOL windy

like I stated I don’t want to hit the Bee’s nest to get the Hunny, I really want to fit in everywhere, And I know as a Lions fan I’m going to be Tar-n-featherd from time to time but hey that’s all part of the fun on here isn’t it? As I see it these are the Bears that SHOULD make it: Urlacher (no brainer) Kreutz also no brainer, Forte could very easily be there assuming he doesn’t have a soph slump, but there are some talented RB’s in our conferance. Briggs could just as easily be there as well, I just don’t see Pace staying healthy long enough to go to Miami thou too old and not as good as he use to be, That would be like me thinking Jon Jansen is going from the lions just because he was a formr pro-bowler I love him but being realistic they are both over the hill and neither of them can stay healthy. The one guy that most of you seem to not be mentioning is OLSEN I think he is going to be a shoe-in this year and heres why cutler loved his TE’s in denver and you have 2 of the Better ones in our conference, with that position it’s all about the rec yards and Olsen should be able to put up good #’s.

Davis0169

Yes, I do. I like looking at all fans perspectives. Just posting on your own blog can get boring and repititive, because ultimately you all think and want your team to do well, ya know? It can be a nice reality check haha.

And I agree 100%. This has been way more fun being the “bad guy” over here than it is with the usual “lions are great” guys over in the pride.
