Just curious here!

O.k. as my first post on the WCG, you guys are probably already aware that I'm a Die-hard Lions fan, but a lover of the North in general. Since starting to get out of our little pond over in the "pride" I am curious as to how you guys feel about one certain LB'r and that would be 1 Derrick Brooks a long time ex-Yuckaneer? We bloggers over in the pride would like to see him sign with our lions just to have another Veteran Lb to be there and help out our 3 very young Lb's who we don't feel will play much this year, I was thinking that if Brooks had a choice of where he could go it would be to your Bears cause of the Marinera sauce and Lovie Smith connections he has had in the past. With that being said would you guys even want such a player assuming that he would go anywhere to be a back-up? And last but not least thank you guys for helping me take off my blinders when it comes to Football in general, cause like most of you I am so blind with the lust of my lions I am/was to Bias to think straight on most topics.

I think the Lions would be best to not go after any old players… new coach, new era, stick with the young guys and build that team up

Agreed.

And I’d think that the Saints would be the team most likely to make an offer to Brooks.

We have no use for another LB

I believe we have six that are going to be on the final roster especially since we picked up Tinoisamoa who has taken over as starting SSLB.

What's important

is that you’ve come to this site without blinders. Sure you have had your opinions, some haven’t changed and some have. Some folks need to be right so bad, (because they want to sound smart) that they sound foolish at times.
Thankfully you’re not one of those folks.

I look forward to more conversation!

that's very true rdent

But I unfortunately do get that way sometimes, I think we all do from time to time, but I always try to be objective if I can. I just wish I had better English skills. It’s funny to me ow back in the school days that english was the only class I had to try in and couldn’t carry better than a D average.i also wish my god forsaken keyboard worked better. . . .Damn 2 year olds! lol :) Yeah Simms is undersized for what we think swartz wants but he’s the only guy that played well last year for our D-fence and that’s not really saying that much now is it. :)

by davis0169 on Jun 29, 2009 3:48 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Undersized?

Wouldn’t Brooks be another guy who doesn’t fit into Schwartz’s scheme? You guys already have one in Sims, but he’s much, much younger than DB. He’s not exactly a player you want when the franchise is rebuilding (x3).

kind of

Like I said we are only talking about wanting him as a back-up or someone to stand on the sidelines to show the young ones what they should be seeing out there on the field.

by davis0169 on Jun 29, 2009 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

At the league minimum then

but I don’t see what he does for anyone at his age. I’d rather save the roster spot for a young, up and coming LB.

If we didnt have Pisa then that would be sick.

I could imagine Stafford under center looking at Tommie Harris, Briggs, Urlacher, and Brooks. That would be disgusting. lol. That would be a nice welcoming to the NFC North, dont ya think?

Briggs and Brooks play the same position

Wouln’t happen, not this lifetime.

OOOOOOOOO

that would be a nightmare for us other 3 teams fans in our division.

by davis0169 on Jun 29, 2009 3:49 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Haha

That really would be a nightmare!

Davis- To answer your question I don’t really think you guys need Brooks. I can understand bringing him in as a mentor but I think Peterson and Farrior will do a good job mentoring your young guys. Both of them are veteran guys and they are both proven players at there position.

Hey Packman

I know this isn’t where I should be asking this but what do you guys think about your LB corp. especially now that Hawk is in his 3rd year and the addition of a pure-breed like Mathews Jr. I really feel that the NFC North is going to be the division to beat in a year or 2. Look at it 3 of the 4 teams have very young talented QB’s. All 4 teams have young rec, that their fans are very high on, with DET and GB having the better 2 of the 4, Please Bears fans give me some credit on this 1, Jennings and Megatron are better at this point in their respective careers. All 4 teams have very good RB’s with the Bears and Vikes having the upper hand here, at least for now that is. And I am sick and tired of having to hear about how great the east is. It’s the north and the South’s turn very quickly!

by davis0169 on Jun 29, 2009 4:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Um I think..

It should be pretty good. Barnett and Hawk will do well in the middle. Hawk struggles in man-to-man coverage and in our new scheme he won’t have to do that all that much. His job, as well as Barnett will primarily be to stop the run, which both are pretty good at. Matthew Jr. should be pretty good as well, though it will probably take him some time to become effective. He has very good pass rushing skills though, and that will be one of primary jobs, so hopefully he’ll excel in that aspect. Kampman is kind of questionable. I don’t think he’ll have a problem rushing the QB, because he has been great at it, and has been undersized in doing so (only 265 lbs.). My concern is how he will adjust to dropping back in coverage. He played LB in college, but there is a big difference between college and the NFL. He is privileged to have Kevin Greene coaching him at the position (who was an absolute animal playing ROLB in the 3-4) and hopefully that will make his transition easier. Hope that helped!

well

forget about the south and ill agree. but for us to realistically become better than NFC EAST your lions and the packers need to start pulling thier weight. I can see it happening though.

Lions

are by far the weakest team in football. Like wiltfongerjr said, stick with the young players. If you guys go 0-16 again, you will get good picks in the draft. DOn’t sign this guy

allow me to explain

trademan me and GeauxBrears were over on the Norsemen and they have 1 (has to be little kid) on that site and this kid is thee either biggest Farve fan in the world, or biggest idiot on all of the SB nation, and I was just making a comment to GBEAR about some of his rediculous statements. According to this kid none of us need to watch football this year cause Favre and the Vikings are going 16-0 and winning the superbowl something that Favre has only done 1 time in his entire career. The sad thing is I usually am pretty level headed but for some reason I sank down to his level last night and started to go after him.
