Top Remaining Free Agents

Chicago Bears GM Jerry Angelo and Head Coach Lovie Smith have consistantly stated that they are always evaluating free agent talent, but the Bears have never been a team to dish out top-tier money for big name free agents. When training camp starts in 30 days, we will get a better feel for where we stand with some of our "question mark" players, and possibly start making moves for free agents, if we are going to.
The following are the top remaining free agents, according to Fox Sports. The article has them listed as a slideshow, so for your convenience, I have listed them out.
10- Jerry Porter, WR
9- Marvin Harrison, WR
8- Marcus Washington, LB
7- Derrick Brooks, LB
6- Jon Runyan, OT
5- Brett Favre, QB
4- Mark Tauscher, OT
3- Dunta Robinson, CB
2- Oshiomogho Atogwe, S
1- Terrell Suggs, LB
That's not a bad group of guys, and something tells me that none of them will come cheap. Looking at that list, I don't see the Bears being too interested, but this has been an uncharacteristic offseason thus far.
Do any of you think that the Bears have the potential to go after any of these players?

I don’t think any of those guys would be a financial fit.

Yeah, definitely not.
I’d love to see them pick up Robinson, but there’s no way we could pull it off without cutting Vasher. Can’t say I’m opposed to that option, but I think they’ll give him another season to try and get back to form. If we somehow pulled it off though, our secondary would be unreal.

I’m just surprised that Harrison has yet to land a job. Although I felt the same way about Shaun Alexander when the Seahawks released him, and I was obviously wrong about that one. So, who knows, maybe Marv is done.

The top-3 on the list
Why are franchise players listed? They’re not available to be signed by anyone but the team who tagged them, right? It would have to be a sign and trade similar to Cassel.

For Dunta Robinson (who is pretty sick), it says his franchise tag is non-exclusive, meaning other teams can make offers however the Texans will have the opportunity to match the offer or receive draft picks. He is making over $9M this year, don’t think too many offers are going to come in above that for his services.
As brands said, Dunta's is a non-exclusive.
As for Suggs and Atogwe, they haven’t yet signed their tenders.

Weird glitch, but fixerized nonetheless.
Thanks.

Porter
Jerry Porter would be affordable…but probably injured 82 minutes into his first practice
That's way too much time to be spent healthy for him
More like 82 seconds. Imagine the headlines the next day….
A wind storm hit the Bears training camp practice Monday; newly signed Jerry Porter had to be taken away on a stretcher after piece of trash broke his pinky toe. More news at a eleven.

When in doubt move him to safety!

People throw a fit about Plax as a bad locker room presence
But Jerry Porter is the poster child of locker room cancer…evidenced in both his stays at Oakland and Jacksonville

What's the deal with Suggs?
I don’t think he fits lovie’s defense but a good player, no?
I was told that I ruined this house with my anger
Where would you play him?
He’s not a 4-3 linebacker. We already have 2 above-average starting DEs; do you really giving Suggs a massive contract is worth the upgrade?
please read where i wrote

In a heartbeat.
A player like that, you find a way to get him on the field.

No question he's good.
And I’m sure he could slide in at DE, but is he enough of an upgrade over Ogunleye/Brown to justify the type of contract he’d demand? I don’t think so.
latest has him closing in on deal with Baltimore
it seems they’re debating on whether or not they want to sign him to a long term deal … why this is in doubt i don’t know.

No need for creepy ass clown pictures.
Jesus, I don’t remember bozo looking so much like Pennywise. I’m staying the hell away from storm drains for awhile now. Thanks, Ditkavs, thanks.

Seconded
I was given a McDonalds pen with a creepy little figurine of Ronald McDonald (but only his top half!) when I was a child. Doubtless the adult who gave it to me thought it was a great present, but little did they know that it was the creepiest thing I’d ever seen. It weirded me out. Still does, if I’m talking about it nearly 3 decades later…..

I think we should get Oshiomogho Atogwe,
just so WCG will have another fun name to spell. :)

What's the deal with Atogwe?
The Bears need a FS. I know he’s been franchised but hasn’t signed the tender. What does that mean? Is he really available?
by Shawn Domagal-Goldman on Jul 1, 2009 10:30 PM CDT reply actions
He's much better than what the Bears have but...
Spagnuolo and co. will not let him go. OJ (thank god for nicknames) is simply waiting to see if he can get more cash via some sign and trade deal. The overwhelming consensus is he will stay in STL. Damn shame, because he is a FS star on a D with a terrible line.
He's fantastic
and would be a huge addition if we could somehow land him. He was franchised, but hasn’t signed it yet. There was a thought for awhile that guys who did that risked the team changing their mind and pulling the tag as the economy dwindled (Seattle did that with their linebacker, then signed him to a more cap friendly deal).
The Rams blog touched on the OJ situation. Looks like they’ll prbably resign him:

DEJESUS!!!
Ahh, Atogwe
I remembered really hoping he would be the defensive signing of this offseason. Too bad he was franchised..
Atogwe + Brandon Marshall, anyone??
