Lets bring back Griese

He was a good backup. Lets bring him back. it’s not like he will have to start many games because he have a great starter.

I Have Spoken.

No Griese.

I would rather see the youth movement continue. Strong, athletic guys who have speed. Griese would just bring controversy and doesn’t bring the above mentioned qualities. I believe Hanie is a lot more similar to Cutler in his skill set too. Good speed and can throw the ball deep. I gonna vote “no”.

by nakedbulb on Jul 15, 2009 3:02 PM CDT reply actions

I agree

I see the logic of bringing in Griese, because if Cutler gets hurt and misses 2 games, then I could see where Griese might keep you afloat better than Hanie/Basanez. But that’s really the only scenario that I could see him benefiting us. If we need him for a half, I think Hanie can handle it. If we need mop-up duty, Hanie can handle that. And if Cutler is out for more than 2 games, I don’t think Griese can save us. So what’s the point? I’d rather see what we can get out of the two young guys.

by TCBullfrog on Jul 15, 2009 4:02 PM CDT up reply actions

Controversy?

What controversy do you think Griese would bring?

If we brought Griese in, it would be for the #2 slot and nothing else. Would anyone be calling to put him in ahead of Cutler? And no sense in bringing an older vet to be #3.

I like Hanie as a young developmental guy, but if for some reason Cutler weren’t ready to go for a game or few this season, I’d rather start Griese than Hanie.

by RomeoSierra on Jul 15, 2009 5:23 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree. It amuses me that some fans assume the Bears will automatically win with Griese in an emergency.

We’re screwed anyways if Cutler gets hurt, because the team that stays healthiest is likely to win the NFC north. Why not see what Hanie brings to the table in a meaningful game, and move along his development, if the unthinkable should happen? Who knows, he may emerge as someone that can compete well and give us a genuine threat at the backup. Develop our own damn talent instead of looking at washed up veteran QBs.

Griese - the human ping pong ball!

Tampa Bay rips up a killer serve to Chicago. The Bears successfully counter by lobbing the Griese back to the Buccaneers and setting up and easy kill shot. Will Chicago decide to continue playing this tumultuous game of back and forth or are the Bears disciplined enough to just walk away?

I am hoping for the later.

We Still Got the Better end of the Deal

Because we stole a draft pick for Griese after signing him in FA.

by Sam Householder on Jul 15, 2009 7:50 PM CDT up reply actions

Do you remember who we got or what we did with that draft pick.

I thought it was for an undisclosed 2009 draft choice… but I’m not recalling much after that.

A complete 180 degrees

I changed my mind on Griese after some thinking the past couple of days. I guess I’m OK with Hanie and Basedmedahez as Jay’s backups.

For the longest time

I had no idea, or care for that matter, to spell or pronounce his name correctly. So it kind of morphed into what you see above.

Griese would be nice

To go into the season with second year and undrafted player Caleb Hainie as your # 2 is irresponsible if you want to say you are a good, aspirational football team in 2009. Bears need a viable and tested backup QB. Griese fits the bill nicely.

Griese threw for over 400 yards

against the Bears last year. That winnable game helped keep us out of the playoffs. He still has something left in the tank, has the desire to play and knows our offense. A better insurance option than the kids for a game or two if we would need him…let’s sign him up.

I really don't agree

Griese is done. And even if he “knows the offense” he doesn’t have the tools of Cutler/Hanie/Whats-his-face to keep the play book the same.

If Cutler goes down, we’re done anyway. I’d rather ride with youth and talent then old and broken.

Didn't every QB throw for 400 yards against the Bears last year?

That’s like saying Tyson still has it, because he beat up me.

by rdent4hof on Jul 16, 2009 9:28 AM CDT up reply actions

I guess it's just me.

Before we got Cutler I felt comfortable with the idea that Hanie was going to turn out O.K. He showed glimpses of brilliance last pre-season. I know it meant “nothing” but remember the hail mary completion for a T.D at the end of one of those games. Yeah we lost the game but, Wrecks or Orton couldn’t have made that throw.
