I might be reading too much into it, but
I find it interesting that when Marinelli talks about Tommie Harris, he only addresses the importance of his position but never speaks to his actual performance in practices/OTA’s so far. With every other lineman he talks about, he details the things they’ve done while he’s been a coach here. If you look at most of the interviews where Harris’ name is brought up, it’s the same thing. I’m wondering if his inuries are worse than the Bears are letting on or if Marinelli’s style of confronation and accountability don’t sit well with this guy. He better get back to a high level of play or I think they should dump him.
I also noticed
when Marinelli was asked about A. Brown, Ogun and M. Anderson, he just spoke about Brown and Ogun.
Maybe I’m reading too into it, as well.
“Maybe so and maybe not, Was it for this my life I sought?”
Well, there may be a reason for that...
Tommie Harris sitting out of practice is a usual occurrence. I’m starting to wonder about his long-term prospects – I hope the rumblings about his knees are true. At the same time, the Bears haven’t lied about injuries, right? :)
As to your post below, I agree. Those three are my fallback options for one-liners.
I'M A MAN! I'M 23!
By the way, anytime you can work Stephanie into a post, it's a good day.
If it wasn’t for her, Rashied, and the FB Dive where else would we go for a laugh!?!?!?
From the D-line preveiw on ChicagoBears.com
Marinelli changed the name over the door of the D-line meeting room from “Defensive Line” to “Rush Men”. I freakin’ love it! So far, it looks like Marinelli is bringing some much needed ATTITUDE!!!
OK... my tidbits here...
1. The Hester commercial was cool… really cool. A day in the life.
2. The Bears 3-1 to wint the NFC. Wow. But, consider the Jest are 6-1 to win the NFC. Umm… yeah.
3. Matt Cassel’s contract is a bad contract now. Will be a bad contract in 4 months… and will be an even worse contract in 2 years.
4. Now for my rant: I’m sick and tired of hearing how Jay Cutler had all these amazing weapons and such a great O-line in Denver, so he’s gonna automatically suck in Chicago. For one, yes, their O-line has been consistently one of the best run-blocking units in the league because of their scheme. However, they had to use 7 different running backs to survive the season last year due to injuries, and passed the ball 62% of the time. That tells me that the passing game of Jay Cutler was setting up the run. On the other hand, we have Matt Forte, a star in the making, who accounted for 35% of our offense last year (most in the NFL).
Secondly, Cutler is a mobile QB who escapes pressure and extends the play… so that’s gonna make any O-line’s pass protection look better. And, speaking of O-lines… that was a weak spot for us last year, so we fixed it. We’ll have 3 new starters on our line this season, including future HOFer Orlando Pace.
Third, everyone seems to think that Denver’s WRs are pro-bowl caliber. Um… fun facts for those folks: Cutler got a rookie (Eddie Royal) to catch 90+ passes last year, and got a 4th round pick from UCF (Brandon Marshall) to catch 100+ passes in his second and third year. When put underneath a microscope, the stat gurus at footballoutsiders show that both WRs have a negative DVOA (Defense-adjusted Value Over Average). Negative numbers in that statistical category aren’t a good thing BTW. Royal ranks #47, and Marshall ranks #58. It’s basically telling you that these guys were average or below average, and if they were replaced with an average player, the same results would occur. Footballoutsiders ranks WRs primarily according to DYAR (Defense-adjusted Yards Above Replacement). Eddie Royal ranks #32, and Brandon Marshall ranks #42. A far cry from greatness. Of course, Devin Hester is ranked #64… so it’s not like we have anything to boast about either. But we knew that… and we expect Jay to make our guys look good.

Jerry Angelo trades for Jay Cutler! (4.2.2009)
.
Funny thing... Marshall is very consistent.
Consistently NOT among the best WRs in the league. If you look at 2007, he was ranked just #30, despite being throw to 170 times that year (tied for most in the NFL with TJ Housh in 2007). Last year, Marshall was throw to 181 times, most in the NFL. Yet, he was ranked #42… and with all of those opportunities, he only scored 6 TDs in ’08, and 7 TDs in ’07.
The simple version: DYAR means a wide receiver with more total value. DVOA means a wide receiver with more value per play.

Who's the author?
For the O-line preview at sporting news. They said “check out my work at WCG.”

Got it
Sorry, the pretty bright blue link prevents me from actually reading the rest of the line. :)

I think what I hate most about Joyner is
That he is putting doubt in my mind. I don’t like doubt!!! Even if it is well-founded (which his isn’t) I want to blindly believe that my Bears will go far until they do otherwise. Cutler is still a young QB, with good coaching he can get his turnovers down and I think that he will. He knows what he needs to work on to get better and I think he will.
Also to those bitter Broncos fans, I have read enough from teammates and coaches to know that all this selfish player/immaturity stuff is total bull. On CB.com they had a video interview with Knox and Igleasias and both said he was the type of leader you want. Stop making this crap up.

As much as I want to believe otherwise
it’s a cause for concern that a lot of us had when the idea of getting Cutler first came up. When you throw in some of the analysts saying similar things (Dungy, Ditka, etc.) it does make me think there might something to it. Obviously, we won’t know, or care, if Cutler comes in and plays great but those kinds of comments came up even before this off-season.
On the other side of the ledger, he has done a great job of saying and doing the right things since he’s been here and if he was “immature” before (who wasn’t at some point in our lives) it doesn’t mean that this situation couldn’t have been the thing to turn him around.
As I’ve said from the beginning, I hope everyone just responds correctly to what he does. He (and WE) don’t need overreaction whether he does something good or something bad. The peaks and valleys will happen this season, as they do to all players so let’s just give him a chance.
And he has shown nothing but maturity since he arrived in chicago..if he gets a little pissed off at himself for botching a play, so what? most people blame themselves and learn from it. Joyner does make a couple of decent points..but they seem to be viewed through a bit of a “pissed off bronco fan” skewed lens.
I agree
It’s like Cutler is KC’s poster boy for bad decision making, and over zealousness.

Loved this quote
so much I had to make it part of my signature.
