A Moment With Ifuwanna: Back by popular demand

So I was looking at a few comments and noticed a few wanting my segment to make a return.  So here It is.  New topics such as my interesting encounters at my job will be included.  I will also address the member I think is making noise around WCG, and those who've been too quiet lately.  And lastly, my Bear of the Week, a current or former Bears player who gets their time in the Limelight.

Anyways, let's get to it.

Star-divide

Random Pondering

Is it me, or does Brett Favre's recent villainous actions remind you of Stone Cold Steve Austin's heel turn at Wrestlemania?

Derrick Mason's retirement is being called one big bluff by Mike Florio.  If that's what it really is, can Mason be the Favre to the Bears' Jets?

Big Ben is the subject in what is about to become a very ugly series of events that might spill into the regular season.  He's been accused of sexually assaulting a casino attendant in Reno.  The Madden curse seems to have stuck early, hmmmmm?  Seriously though, I don't like the guy, but I still can't see him raping a woman.

Has Glenn Earl been cut yet?

Instead of cutting Adrian Peterson, why don't we convert him to fullback?  I'm being serious.

Does anybody really think Vick is still "NFL good"?  Seriously? (put your hand down, Gesiakob)

If I have sex with my night manager while on shift, then tell my boss she told me to have sex with me, and I have to always listen to my managers, you think I could get a promotion?

Interesting Encounter at my job

A man was wearing a Brett Favre TD record breaking shirt.  By his accent and his wildly unkempt hair, I could tell he was a native Wisconsin resident.  I told him that as a Bears fan, I'm just sitting back and watching it all go down.  He said that as a lifelong Packers fan, he's lost all respect for Brett.  He also said if he does join the Vikings, the Packers will never retire his jersey.

Sheesh!  Never? That's the same chance that apples will grow on my mango tree.  I'm sorry, but no way does Green Bay not retire that man's number.  He almost single handedly brought the NFL's greatest franchise (I should hang myself for typing that) out of the dark ages and became one of the most recognizable athletes in the last quarter century.  Now, If he joined the Bears...

Ifuwanna's Bear of the week

Explorepahistory-a0l1l7-a_349_medium

I have no clue why this man is not talked about more amongst Bears fans and the NFL in general, but Willie Thrower is a true football trailblazer.  The first African-American Quarterback, Willie never became a star, or even became a full-time starter, but a black quarterback was an oddity, especially for his time.  The league wouldn't see another black QB for 15 years.  Here's to you Willie, my first ever Bear of The Week.  For more information on Thrower, visit Williethepro.com.

Making noise

Gesiakob. Say what you want about him, but he's earned my respect by putting out a new FP every day. His unorthodox presentations keep me reading, even if I've read the topic before.  Keep up the good work, Gesiakob.

Being Quiet

Tempchad.  Where the Hell is Tempchad?  I need more "Carry my bags rook!"

Thanks for reading, everyone. see you next week.

Well done, sir

I don't know about the promotion, but what you will get is

laid at work, which is always better than working at work. I say that makes it a win-win. Unless she’s a “Vespa” chick, in which case you’ve gotta keep it quiet.

Regarding a few of these:

I really don’t see Mason as a vengeance against the Ravens or Titans kind of guy. Great possession receiver though.

The first thing that strikes me with the Rothlesberger issue is she’s not pressing criminal charges.

The second thing that strikes me with the issue is that she waited over a YEAR to do this.

This screams cash grab to me.

New news today

New news came out today that she told someone at Harrah’s after it happened but he refused to process her claim. I guess the Harrah’s President is a big Steelers fan that wans “to blow” Big Ben. – Quote from a tabloidish website -

I could see Big Ben doing it. Although I could also see her not saying No.

by brands735 on Jul 22, 2009 2:38 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah, I thought that at first

But Mike Florio, who was on 670 the score earlier today, said a legitimate reason would be that they wanted to wait until he was around that area to file the charges. they didn’t want to do it around steeler territory, and preferred to wait.

What I don’t understand is, with all the information coming out, Why hasn’t ESPN released the story yet? they’re really screwing the pooch on this one, seeing they’re already in hot water with the Erin Andrews pics.

AP

I thought Peterson should have been converted to FB long ago… now I think it’s too late.

Imagine if he would have been working out as a FB since day 1? He’d be bigger and stronger and a viable option as a lead blocker. He’s never been afraid of contact, he has good hands, and his lack of speed wouldn’t be a problem as a FB.

and by the way, I do think Vick could bring something to a team

I glad to see this series return

Ifuwanna has always been a man of the people so thanks for listening. As always I enjoyed your take on all things random. And of course the night manager thing is just awesome.

I agree with Robert Rence on the Big Ben theroy(it’s like the big bang but different) it just doesn’t make sense that someone would wait a year to say anything. I’m not saying that Ben couldn’t be the type of person to do that but I find it highly unlikely.

Packer fans hate the Vikings more than the Bears. It may not be much, but it’s enough. I think the switch happened when the Bears were terrible against Favre all those years in the 90s.

I have a question about one of your subjects, however, Willie Thrower. What year was he active?

Not that I’m looking for bragging rights—but we also have a legend in Denver.

Maybe its because Marlin Briscoe was the first, “Starting” black QB maybe we’re talking AFL-NFL…I just don’t know. Here’s a brief bio:

Briscoe started his career in the American Football League in 1968, with the Denver Broncos, where he became the first starting black quarterback of the modern era. In 1969 he went to the Buffalo Bills, and after the AFL-NFL merger, he played in the NFL from 1970 though 1976, mostly with American Football Conference teams. During eight of his nine years, Briscoe was a receiver, but he is best known as the first modern African-American quarterback, playing the position as a rookie with the Broncos.

Tips?

Everyone seems to like this post and be responding to it (myself included) so I have a question completely unrelated to the post that maybe some of you will read and be able to help with:

Bears tickets on sale this Saturday: Any tips on getting through to Ticketmaster? Usually it gets flooded and hard to get good ones online or over the phone unless you are lucky because they go so quick. I heard sometimes calling Ticketmaster from a different state may work. Anyone know the tricks to assuring yourself good tickets through Ticketmaster?

by brands735 on Jul 23, 2009 11:42 AM CDT reply actions

I have a tip, but cannot gurantee it works every time.

I see a lot of live music shows, and hate it when we have to get tickets through Ticketmaster. In the case of the Bears tickets, you know they are going to get flooded all at once the minute they go on sale, and probably sell out quickly.

One thing that I have done a couple of times, and it worked both times, is have the order filled, all info placed into the fields, and have the order ready to process. If the tickets go on sale at noon, I have hit the “process order” button, or whatever it is called to finalize the order 3 or 4 minutes before they actually go on sale. Both times we did this, it worked.

I can only imagine that people are going to be online, waiting for the exact minute they officially go on sale to push “process”… but both times we tried it, we were able to process a couple minutes earlier.

As a back-up, in case that doesn’t work for you, you may want to have a separate computer with the info entered as well, so that you can process as soon as the official time hits. As for telephone ordering through Ticketmaster, I have no idea.

Disclaimer: This has worked for me both times I have tried it, but have no idea if it is a glitche, or if it will work should you try it. Don’t put all of your eggs in the basket without a back-up plan.

ticketmaster

doesn’t let you search though before the sale date, so you’re not actually finalizing an order, just preloading the search right?

i may not be understandign completely.

by mike b on Jul 23, 2009 1:20 PM CDT up reply actions

No, we were actually at the last step before processing.

I don’t know if NFL games are set up differently, but they may be. We signed into our account, entered 2 tickets into the window, clicked “best available”… the price and shipping info popped up, and we were ready to go. When we clicked “process” or “check out” or whatever TM calls it, a couple minutes before they were officially on sale, it found the tickets, and asked us to verify the CC info. One click later, and it was finalized. The order was 100% complete by the time the tickets officially went on sale.

The first time we did this (2 years ago) was an accident… we used my watch that was a few minutes fast, but it went through. Then last summer, we found a show at the Gorge Amphitheatre that we really wanted to see, so we tried it again, and it worked then too.

yeah, its just going right to the not available page when you click on the event, no searching even offered.

Hmmm, I don't know...

Maybe their platform has changed since last summer. Or maybe updates will start kicking in on the site closer to the on-sale time.

You might want to try actually going to a Ticketmaster location

With everyone getting tickets via phone and internet, the Ticketmaster desks are pretty empty. That may be your best bet.
