Former Titan QB Steve McNair found dead

Alcorn State alum and former NFL MVP Steve McNair was found shot to death in his Nashville home, along with a female victim. The police have not revealed much in the way of details and have not released the identity of the woman. McNair spent his career with the Oilers, Titans, and Ravens, and was Co-MVP along with Peyton Manning in 2003. He was 36 years old.

I heard Jamie Dukes on NFLN
say he had heard it was a murder suicide.
Regardless, tragic news. I always have thought highly of McNair’s football character. RIP

Another network was talking about that just a little while ago.
Apparently McNair was shot multiple times, but the woman only had one gunshot wound and the gun was lying next to her. Also, the police haven’t come out and said that it was a murder/suicide, but they did say that they are not looking for any suspects. My guess is that it’s a murder/suicide, but the police are just covering their own asses in case anything turns up unexpected, being that it’s a high profile case.

Yeah, and it was actually posted by someone else on a NFL football site. So it’s my perogative to comment on it as long as it’s appropriate.

I Never Said That!
I am deeply saddened by the demise of Steve McNair. It is extremely unfortunate he was murdered. I’m just saying that he made a bad choice in getting involved with a woman almost half his age. That choice cost him his life!
by Gesiakob on Jul 6, 2009 10:20 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
no it didn't
it’s perfectly legal. she’s an adult, and so was McNair. The only choice that costed lives was the woman deciding to take their lives. it, doesn’t matter if she was 20, or 120 years old. murder is murder. To think that her being 20 is the reason she did what she did is the dumbest thing I’ve ever heard.

Let's get back on track.
This is first and foremost a Chcago Bears blog. We also discuss the NFL as a whole, and sometimes touch on other sports besides football if something else is going on that is worth discussing.
With the continual growth of this website, we have seen an increase in voices and a wider diversity of opinions, which is remarkable. It is exactly what we want to see, and what the bossman, WCG, has worked his tail off to achieve.
That being said, this is not a forum to debate morals, political nuances, or personal value systems. We certainly do not expect everyone to agree with everyone else, and we encourage those who disagree to speak up, as we have a wide variety of opinions on this blog.
But let’s just keep in mind why we are here, and what our platform is about. When topics of Matt Jones or Brandon Marshall come up, it is natural to talk about their legal history. But when the discussions deviate from a football theme and jump into a personal value system argument, then we have gone too far, but only because this is not the appropriate place for that.
The death of Steve McNair was incredibly tragic, and when we hear about things like this, it can really spark some strong personal feelings and emotions. I have my own, but I also realize that this is not a forum to pass judgement or get into an argument about right versus wrong on a moral or legal level.
Windy City Gridiron encourages debate, and does not wish to stifle your voices or opinons, but we have to remain inside the context of the purpose of why we are here. Please respect that, and keep the discussions within that realm.
Thanks for understanding.

this is exactly the kind of thing that’s going to get plax off… i see his attorney’s eyes lighting up as we speak…

the biggest(and lately, the only) argument sports figures have for carrying weapons
is personal safety… i can totally see his lawyer somehow tying this into his defense, and closing argument. think about it, it seems just too easy to me. it becomes alot easier to sympathize with plax now…

Ok well...
Let’s say Steve had a gun…. would he even have been able to use it if he never thought his girlfriend was going to shoot him? She just got the gun last week so I’m pretty sure he never saw it coming so if he owned a gun I don’t think it would’ve mattered.
Again Plax is a moron who shot himself in the leg in a club. Hey Plax they put safties on guns for a reason.

by Ditkavsworld on Jul 7, 2009 6:41 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Exactly
An ex-player going to see his side who got shot does not equal a player who takes a loaded gun into a club and accidentally shot himself.
I don’t feel sorry for Plax before, now, or ever. He made a moronic decision. What, was the Boogie Man going to get him in an NYC nightclub?
I’m sorry, this is a dumb argument.
I'M A MAN! I'M 23!

what argument?
it’s real simple, and any attorney who is half as good as what he charges would use it. “if, if, if” means nothing, we could do that all day. my only point, while you two discuss whatever it is you’re discussing, is that they’ll use it. it’s too high profile and it makes too much sense.
Courage is not the absence of fear, but rather the judgement that something else is more important than fear.

Seriously? I really have to be careful to not come across as hypocritical… but to discern that McNair’s death will somehow have any friggin impact on Plax’s legal situation, is simply ___________. You fill in the blank.

Jeff Fisher, the Coach of the Tennessee Titan’s drafted McNair out of college. Jeff Fisher was a member of the 1985 Chicago Bears Super Bowl team. Being that Steve McNair was an icon in the sperting and football world, I think discussion of his unfortunate demise has relavance to the football world.
