Matt Jones was on pace for 80 catches and 1,008 yards.
This guy has a clean slate now. Let’s stop judging him on one mistake in the past. it’s time to come to terms that he’s the best WR on the market right now.
Let he who is without sin…

Matt Jones is worth the risk
because he’s a proven receiver and has got some skills. He can make tough catches and would be a valuable target for Cutler.

Hasn't it been more than one mistake?
I agree though, the Bears can’t afford to go into the season with their current crop of WRs. Hester even said it himself that he thinks they need help.

The second incident was nothing
He had a beer while he was out golfing, and it violated the terms of his probation. It was dismissed by the judge, and even by NFL commissioner Joe Arpaio Roger Goodell.

I remember the beer while golfing
but I thought he had more than one “coke” incident.

Not that I remember, but I could be wrong.
And am, quite often.

At this point, let's sign Jones to a 1 year contract, with a modest base and heavy incentives
If he agrees to sign on a “trial” basis, I don’t think we’ve got much to loose even if he screws up and gets himself busted again…

I'm with you
and ifuwanna. Rare talent, worth the gamble. Heavy incentives, trial basis, I’m in!

Fans always assume that theirs is the only team that will come in with a bid for a player's services.
Matt Jones will likely have more than 1 team approach him, so the “let’s lowball him on base pay” approach isn’t likely to be very appealing, unless he has no other options.

Am I crazy for thinking he'll get an offer from the Patriots?

I'm thinking Dallas.
And not just cause of the coke thing. Matt Jones was a Razorback, and of course so was Jerry. I could definitely see that one happening, especially since their WR corps is pretty weak.

I don't know...
They might have have a better squad than appears on paper. Crayton, Bennett, Witten, Austin, and my sleeper WR in the NFC (that’s not a Bear) Roy E. Williams… not to mention Barber out of the backfield…
It should be interesting to watch the Cowboys this year… the team tries to make everyone forget about TO, and Romo needing to prove that he is capable of taking the team to the next level.
Matt Jones would be a good fit there too… who knows where he’ll end up (if anywhere).

I agree on Williams
I think he may have a nice season.
