Training Camp/Favreapollza: 8/18

As before, I'm following (football-wise anyway): Brad Biggs, Jeff Dickerson, Greg Olsen, Matt Forte, Vaughn McClure, David Haugh, Fontel Mines, Dez Clark, Tommie Harris, WindyCG, Peter King, Ross Tucker, Adam Schefter, Jay Glazer and ChicagoBears.com. All links *should* open in a new window!

Be advised: Anyone calling themselves Jay Cutler is a lying liar. (Helmet tip: Roger_Ledger!)

Practice starts at three, so more current updates will start then.

Lots of the tweets from today have been Farve centric so rather than just ignore them I figured I'd include my favorites. That and if I ignored everything Favre, there wouldn't be anything here!

Star-divide

sportsguy33 New nickname for Brett Favre: "VD." We can't get rid of him.

vxmcclure23 favre to Vikings? not again.

SI_PeterKing MMQB Tuesday, up by 1 pm: This is now officially a circus. Favre wishy-washiest player in memory, Vikes his enablers. This is ridiculous.

SI_PeterKing Childress better get ready for a storm of criticism, because he'll get it. Deservedly.

SI_JonHeyman favre is clemens without roids. he never tells truth. 50 lashes with wet noodle for any fool who believed he was retired.

sportsguy33 RT: @sethmeyers21 Favre saga not a ringing endorsement for hanging out on the farm in Mississippi

LeBatardShow can i get away with spending the entire first favre story on pti today doing nothing but laughing? no commentary. just laughter?

Adam_Schefter Vikes don't waste any time, do they? Brett Favre expected to start Friday night versus Chiefs.

ESPNChiBears Briggs on favre always changing mind: i hope he changes his mind when he's going to throw the ball away and throws it into coverage.

ChicagoBearscom LM: Bears players aren't surprised by Brett Favre's decision to sign with the Vikings. Link: http://ow.ly/ku3E Mobile: http://ow.ly/ku4g

BradBiggs Greatest Favre note from Judd Zulgad who reports that 1 cop couldn't contain the madhouse that broke out at Vikes facility as #4 arrived

BradBiggs "Police eventually cordoned off the area with police tape, shortly after a man dressed as a parrot ran the wrong way up the street."

BradBiggs I would pay top dollar to see video of that.

And our very own: WindyCG The Bears' secondary is not looking sharp. With that kind of reporting, I can work for the Chicago MSM....look out, Rick Morrissey!

From LM's Riddeu article on CB.com
Earl Bennett made two great catches in Monday’s practice. He hauled in deep Cutler passes while falling to the ground after being knocked down by Nate Vasher, and after Trumaine McBride tugged on his facemask and pulled Bennett’s shorts down while trying to break up the pass.

Awesome. Just awesome.

Lol.

And I thought McBride was being aggressive in the preseason game… No Mercy In Practice!

Ha

Dickerson tweeted something yesterday about Bennet being pantsed… but that was all. And I wasn’t going to post that until I heard the whole story! :-P

Olin kreutz veteran’s day off.

Kevin jones, orlando pace and kellen davis sitting out practice.

Charles tillman playing catch in full pads. Lets see what he does. Likely side work.

Toub is working his magic… doing punt returns.
Shaffer at RT, Beekman at C, Williams at LT.
(Pace and Kreutz with Vet days off, not hurt!)
Harrison running with the 1s at NT.

Graham and Vash in with 1s for 7on 7.

Cutler's had a rough day

0-3 on next to last series. Several almost picks by Briggs & Payne and under intense pressure with a lot of batted passes.

(I just hope that means our pass defense is putting up a fight)

Beekman also got into a fight with someone, a “little dust up” according to Dickerson.

by Allie on Aug 18, 2009 5:17 PM CDT reply actions

I was hoping for this..

Very, very glad to see our d line is pushing him, and getting better. I’ll take a mediocre Cutler and a spectacular defense for 2009 in a heartbeat, but obviously would prefer both to be spectacular. Sounds like some urgency is growing on the defense.

Bowman
Lovie Smith basically names Zack Bowman a starting cornerback

Favorite quote of the day. His speed, size, and atheticism are needed at CB.

Nathan Vasher might want to start packing his locker

I’ve said for weeks that I believe Nathan Vasher will be a cut. And there has been nothing to dissuade me of that opinion. Vasher continues to look like garbage out there after two years of injuries and otherwise being just plain bad. His contract is too rich. And with Zach Bowman presumably moving up the food chain that should give Jerry Angelo all the ammunition he needs to say bye-bye to Vasher.

Agreed

I decided after the Bills game. He’s gone.

Who is returning punts in practice. Is it Devin?

by Trey23 on Aug 18, 2009 7:36 PM CDT up reply actions

maybe a little, but

I bet he is still spending most of his time as a receiver.

My only concern is Bowman's injury history

I watched him at NU and he’s awesome when healthy, but he tends to get hurt a lot. With Tillman being so banged up, I’m not sure he’ll be better than 80% at any point this year. Remember how hard it was for Urlacher to come back after the neck surgery, Tillman has had back and shoulder surgery this offseason.

So if Tillman isn’t 100% and Bowman gets hurt, we’ll have McBride and Graham at corner, with D Manning in reserve, which won’t be enough. Vasher might get demoted but keep his roster spot just for depth reasons. Depends on how much D.J. Moore impresses the coaches I guess.

I'd be more worried about the coverage at FS, than our CBs

But, that’s just me. I think the CB thing is being magnified too much. Cover 2 CBs are supposed to be easier to find than Cover 2 safeties. The safeties = the “2” in the label “Cover 2.” The coverage responsibilities of the safeties is what makes the Cover 2 what it is, and right now, we have major talent issues there.

I remain more worried about the d-line

it doesn’t matter if everyone’s covered like blankets if qbs have all day to throw we’re going to get eaten a live anyway.

Anyone else find it amusing

tha Favre is gonna play for the Vics, err uhh, Vikes?

Yes

Very, but very relieved he, or Vick for that matter, are not Chicago Bears

I would debate you, but that would only lead to me being dragged away in handcuffs...

Vasher

We could move him to safety but it might be too late

by DaHamsta on Aug 19, 2009 11:11 AM CDT reply actions

That would be worse cause he's a bad tackler

and isn’t physical enough to hold up against the run.
