QuickHit: Tarvaris Jackson

I found a couple of articles that are saying that Tarvaris Jackson is likely going to be the QB casualty in Minnesota, with the recent signing of Brett Favre.  One article even says the cut/ trade of Jackson is likely to happen by Friday.  Most people think that Jackson as trade fodder may not bring in more than a 7th round pick.

Scenario:

Brett Basanez stinks it up again Saturday versus the Giants, and Jackson is cut rather than traded.

1- Would you want the Bears to make an offer to the project QB?

2- Do you think the Bears (in the scenario) would make an offer?

I hear they really like Booty and think his upside is greater than Jackson.

If so, with Sage as the backup it is more likely they keep Booty on the roster. If he goes to the practice squad, anyone could snatch him up and sign him to a contract. They want to develop Booty and keep him for post Farve era.

I don't think

there’s any way that JD Booty would get through the waiver wire an onto the practice squad. Nobody is sure if he is going to be any good or not, but he was a successful USC quarterback, who beat out Mark Sanchez for the starting job while he was there, so SOMEBODY would certainly take a flier on him. Therefore, if the Vikings do cut Booty, they will have had no intentions on trying to get him on to the practice squad.

The consensus among Vikings fans now, seems to be that Jackson is the odd man out.

I'm with this.

But I doubt the Vikings would trade him to a division rival. If they cut him, I’m all for it.

You want our playbook?

Run right on 1st, run left on 2nd, 3 yard pass to our fullbak on 3rd- and 5. That’ll be tree-fiddy.

I know it.

I just love how they say “all bears fans are aholes and think they are better than everyone else”. And they are over there talking about how dumb we are and how superior they are because they won the division last year and we didn’t. But don’t bring up any superbowl talk because they’ll say you are living in the past.

I have met few Vikings fans

that are knowledgeable about the game, most are extreme homers. Try talking statistic or use logic and its like teaching a 4 year old about Physics, it just won’t make any sense to them and they will spew useless BS back at you…I honestly can say I hate the Vikings and most of their fans than the Packers and their fans..at least they are willing to admit their team has flaws.

And just so if any Vikings fans come on here to berate me for this post, I stated most Vikings fans not all, and if you reply to this negativity without providing logic you only prove my point.

The reason he is so focused on me

is because I called him out on a few things, mostly being classless, childish, and unprofessional, and he had absolutely no retort other than to say i was trying to run his blog.

He consistently calls people stupid, idiots, aswipes, etc if they are not a Vikes fan, even if they aren’t being trolls. He is very juvenile in his approach, and no less than a dozen Daily Norseman members have exchanged emails with me about being happy I called him out, agreeing with the fact that he is a blowhard who gets off on insulting people from behind his “head blogger” title.

But, plenty of people realize that you can have intelligent football conversations regardless of whether you root for the same team, so piss on him. I backed him onto a corner several times, and he could do nothing except delete my comments and act all high and mighty. That to me is all that is important. He can continue surrounding himself by other juvenile idiots who sing his praises, and deleting anything that is an opinion different from his.

At least over here at WCG, we have a head blogger who encourages debate and intelligent conversations with whomever stops by. And that is a good feeling.

Be nice. Flag comments that you think are offensive. Use the "reply" button. Drink plenty of water. Compliment others. Rec (wreck) comments and posts you like. Don't call people names. If you don't like someone's comment, attack the comment and not the commentor. Learn the difference in your/you're, then/than, to/too. Exercise. Relax. Stretch often. Find good in the world.

I like it here.

Even the disagreements among fellow Bears fans or others that stop by are much better than what I’ve seen over there. I saw plenty of examples of his talking down to people. Read any post he responded to Brands on and that says it all. I actually was hesitant to reply to anything over there that I disagreed with in fear of just being ripped apart for anything I said to support my team.

I know I don’t always roll out the red carpet for people that stop by, but by comparison I think fans of other teams are given a fair shake in the big scheme of things.

Yeah, I agree.

I’ve not seen much but bashing over there. There are some who are rational, but a lot of it is just typical “You suck and we don’t” behavior. I admit I’ve been getting a little testy lately, but overall I think we’re pretty friendly, assuming you know how to act. If you walk in someones house and piss on their furniture, you can’t expect a warm welcome and an invite to stay for dinner.

I antagonized

I was at first trying to have reasonable discussion. They were saying how horrible the Bears were and I asked for explanations of why. And then they would give more opinion after opinion. For example, they said the Bears defense got “worse” and that last year the only reason we were close is “scheduling”. Well, they can’t explain how our defense got worse but it did, and they didn’t know we play almost identical schedules every year. Regardless, Gonzo leads them on with false hope and name calling so I started antagonizng back.

I like it here too. The only thing we argue about is the ethics of signing criminals and which criminal is the worst. Maybe because we have never employed criminals?

I love that the first comment I read was:

Nice article. F**k Chicago and their fans and sportswriters.

I think acquiring Jackson

would be an upgrade for you guys behind Cutler, but I wouldn’t expect much from him. If Cutler went down he could semi-fill the gap, but it would be tough to rely on him to win any games. He has had a hard enough time learning the simple Minnesota offense after THREE YEARS. Ugh.

Unless you’re strictly thinking of getting him to only be a third QB, then I’d say it probably wouldn’t even be worth it.

Just a thought from someone who’s watched T-Jax suck it up for a few years.

Interesting

But I’m not sure keeping Hanie in the third spot would be ideal for his progression. Not to mention what could rub off of T-Jax. Although he does appear to have emerged from Rex’s shadow unscathed.

by icarr0331 on Aug 21, 2009 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah

that’s what I was figuring. I’m not sure what the general though on Hanie is (After his good preseason last year, I haven’t really heard anybody in my circle of Bears fan friends talk about him again) but I assumed you guys are happy with him as the backup. If not though, you could definitely do worse than Jackson as a backup.

I just really don’t see him serving any purpose to any team as a third stringer. He is emotionally fragile (What Chilly has done to him the past two years hasn’t helped) and I think being demoted to a third string role would cause him to be couterproductive. I also feel like the Vikigns staff knows that to, and that is why rumbling are that he is the odd man out, because Sage is defintiely the backup.

Of course, in this crazy world of football, anything could happen and I could be very wrong, haha.

I don't see them cutting Jackson, but you never know

He played well last year, and seems to be getting better each year. I don’t see Booty beating Jackson out for the third string spot, assuming they keep 3 QBs on their roster.

Highly doubt

any team will offer the Vikes a draft pick for this guy. I’d be up for TJack being the 3rd stringer behind Hanie, especially if he costs nothing (salary notwithstanding).

If they do, I can’t say I feel real strongly either way. I don’t think signing him does anything wonderful for us, but I’m not strongly opposed to it either. It would be one of those “Oh, ok whatever” moves.

by BigAppleBearsFan on Aug 20, 2009 1:20 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I say bring him in. He can’t be any less accurate than what Baseanez and Hanie have been and he’s more mobile. He can run, and he may be able to catch but I’m not a fan of the wildcat stuff…. I say bring him in and see what happens. I think he would make a quality 2 QB.. less pressure and reps and limelight… he definitely isn’t ready for a full out onslaught by True Bears Fans… but could manage a game.

by Cruisin4aBruisin on Aug 22, 2009 12:15 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Can't be less accurate than Hanie and Bassanez?

Maybe Basanez, but Hanie was by far the best QB in the first preseason game and was one of the best QB’s in the league last preseason and he actually surprised me with his mobility in the few games I’ve seen him play. Plus there’s no point in hindering Hanie’s progress as he has the potential to be a great backup and maybe even a decent starter down the road (for someone else, we have Sir Jay). If T-Jax is going to be on this team it’s going to be as the 3rd stringer.

not just the fake kind one might hear in loviespeak. t jack looked good last night but he has been with the same team for awhile now. he would suck trying to play for turner. unless he regresses chad hutchinson style i would be shocked if they brought in that guy or anyone else.
