Two weeks in what are your thoughts on the WR's?
Here are some of my thoughts.
Well I think I'll stick to my guns on Hester being a nice 3rd receiver. He's really raw and thats not to say he can't be productive but clearly he needs to improve quickly. The encouraging news is he's still very very fast and if Cutler can connect with him deep well then I guess he won't have to out jump anyone. I really thought he would do more after the catch but maybe we'll see more of that when he gets more comfortable. I actually was pleased with some of his blocking down field. He's actually not a bad ''dink and dunk'' man.
Bennett's play surprised me last night not only can he catch in traffic but his speed and moves after the catch are impressive. I think by seasons end he'll be Cutler's number one wideout.
Aromashodu & Rideau are making the team.
Davis we'll be needing number 81 back, thanks!
Iglesias hasn't really impressed me and I know he's just a rookie but I wouldn't be shocked if he was cut. He's kinda small and slow from what i've seen.
Knox kid has big speed and I think with time he'll help the team out on special teams. For that he makes the team. His hands in traffic are suspect and he might be a project but he could be worth it if he catches on and bulks up.
Ok there is one wideout that a lot of people haven't mentioned and it's Derek Kinder. There hasn't been a lot of talk about him and he hasn't gotten many game reps but from what I have seen of this kid I have liked. Has anyone else noticed that the guy just catches balls and does his job without much attention? He's # 83 I keep saying damn who is that dude when he makes a routine catch. He does it with ease. He has a pretty big body and looks fairly solid almost like a TE. He runs nice routes. I'd really like to see more of him. He wears that uniform well.. Have any of you guys heard whats up with him?
I'd kinda like to see Hester, Bennett, Aromashodu, Rideau, Knox and Kinder make up our receiving corps. Yes I was a Mike Hass fan so if this looks off I have good reason.
What players would you like to see make up the wideouts?

I'd like to see Davis gone
But Iglesias won’t get cut due to draft status, he needs a bit of time, Bennett gives me hope, Hester needs work, Knox is fast, but looks like he needs a bit of time to develop too, and Kinder will probably end up on Practice Squad if the team likes him enough. Aromashodu & Rideau, I like the speed and size combo of both, but I see Aromashodu ahead of Rideau at preseason end, it just seems to me that he’s gotten more looks with 1st team than Rideau…but with this coaching staff who knows lol

they need to stop with the hester number 1 crap.
he is never going to be one. I wish i was wrong. cause i know lovie will not put him as a number 3
agreed
He is not a #1, and he is not going to become a #1, but he is a very dangerous receiver ala Gault and Berrian.

not very dangerous
If he can’t catch the long ball. Berrian would at least get it. If he can learn to catch it. than it will help everyone by eating up a safety and a CB. I would be happy with Bennett, DA, and Rideau as the starting 3.
Don't jump ship on Hester just yet.
He’ll be just fine. It’s still pre-season. If you’re having these same feelings come mid-season, then it’s time to start looking at other possibilities. Until then, keep the faith.

its just that he's had
20+ fumbles in his first 3 years in the league. Him getting the ball more will just increase those numbers. I do hope I’m wrong though cause I’m pretty sure they will not bench him.
Adrian Peterson...
led the league with nine fumbles last year. If he were a Bear, would you want him benched? Some players have issues holding on to the ball. Some of those players are difference makers of the A.P. ilk, I personally think Hester is that. Obviously as a returner but even possibly as a receiver. The Bears want to get him the ball more, because of what he does with it when he has it (or had it).
And is the 20+ number correct? I can remember some off the top of my head, botched punts and such, but 20+, that seems a bit high. I could be off here.

I seen it on the espn stats I think it was.
And AP makes up for it hester’s receiving doesn’t yet(hopefully it will). I’m not arguing with you cause i want to be wrong. But hester being on the field and being a deep threat he will open up so much for everyone else with a safety + CB watching him.
"Yet"
That’s exactly my point. It’s only PS week 2, give it time to play out.

yeah i know
just saying. Doing a life raft check.
It's not as if he played that long ball badly
because it’s the preseason. He doesn’t run routes like a receiver. He’s the Bears’ version of Tyrus Thomas, all the tools, but he has no natural receiver instincts. He will catch some long balls, but despite his speed he’ll be best with short-medium range throws. Hopefully, with time, that will change.
Hopefully, with time, that will change.
That’s all I am saying. Just don’t jump ship on him yet, because hopefully, with time…
And I understand preseason wasn’t the causation, but it’s not as if he’s been doing the receiver thing for very long. If I remember right, he originally didn’t want to make the switch from DB to WR, but did what the coaches told him he needed to. Therefore, it gives him a longer leash, in my opinion. And his routes are getting better from everything I have read.

He's a Catch 22... actually... a Catch 23. LOL.
His best tool as a WR, is getting behind the defense… but he can’t make the over the shoulder catch on the deep ball.

Hester is a nice compliment...
to a #1 WR. I don’t really care what “number” the WRs are anyway. It’s like 3-technique tackle, just words to describe positioning, not productivity. Hester did block well and he is a tough WR, but a bit undersized to play “go up and get it” WR. Hester should really be that slot guy in 3-WR sets and isolated on the long side in 2-TE sets. Hopefully Turner/Lovie figure his out soon enough.
Bennett, DA, and Rideau round out a reasonably good WR corps for certain. Each has played well so far in limited reps. DA has good size and catches well. Rideau blocks well and catches well over the middle. Bennett has really surprised me with his RAC abilities and punt returns, but needs a little more work over the middle to hone that part of his game. I see Bennett as the most productive WR overall this year.
That leaves 2 spots for R Davis, Knox, and Iglesias. Knox has played with guts, but needs a year to develop. Iglesias has shown little. Davis has played to expectations, but not stood out. Kinder is too far behind these 3 to make the 53-man roster barring a rash of injuries. Knox and Davis will end up with the last 2 spots. The Bears can let Iglesias and Kinder develop on the practice squad and not worry if they get picked up.

Iglesias...
is picked up within one hour of not making the team, come on, third round draft picks don’t stay on practice squads
Probably true...
which forces a choice between Davis or Iglesias. To be honest though, I wouldn’t care. I think Iglesias is a bad fit for this Bears team and Davis needs to go elsewhere to find a good fit. I say keep Kinder and let him and Knox develop. Kinder and Knox, IMO, have a much better upside than Iglesias.
"There's a fine line between stupid, and clever"-D St Hubbins Spinal Tap
How...
is Iglesias a bad fit for this team. We are still a run first team, and Iglesias as a rookie is probably going to be probably our best run blocker as a receiver. Plus he runs great routes and has good hands, what’s not to like? I realize he isn’t the fastest receiver out there but he can be a valuable possesion receiver, on third down.
Also, every one talks about Knox having the potential to be a special teams standout because of his speed, but remember Iglesias was a beast on STs for Oklahoma.
Iglesias
is a perfect fit for this Bears team… he’s better than Davis, and is great at catching and route running.
he’s our Earl Bennet version 2, needs a year, but will most likely produce for us next year.
Just because he doesnt have blazing speed, doesnt mean he’s not going to be an effective contributer… look at Hester, blazing speed… not the greatest receiver, we dont need two guys that can stretch the field, but can’t play WR.
I would debate you, but that would only lead to me being dragged away in handcuffs...

#18
Do we have a number #18 on the team yet? I am ready to go to battle with what we have, but Matt Jones would be sweet.
Earl Bennett is looking....
more and more like our number one, if there is on on this team.
Of course, this a unique team so it really doesn’t play out normally.
Our true number one would be Greg Olsen. Our number 2 is Forte at this points.
Hester in the slot, Clark as a true TE. Throw in Bennett and we’re solid right there.
Ideally, I’d love to see Olsen at TE, Bennett at #1, Aromashodu at # 2, Hester in the slot, and Forte in the backfield.
When we go to a two WR set, Bennett as the one and Hester as the slasher/deep threat.
Roster cuts for this season:
September 1st > maximum roster of 75 players.
September 5th > maximum roster of 53 players.

Not only Iglesias, but also Knox could get snatched off the Practice squad, imo.
MAYBE knox sticks if sent to practice squad, but then they could lose a #5 draft pick for nothing. So the bears will have a choice of cutting Davis or crossing their fingers with Knox on the practice squad, if they keep Hester, Bennet, Rideau, Aromashodu, and Iglesias. Kinder on practice squad, and other WR’s will be cut.
ANother interesting question – what if a decent WR gets cut from another team or the Bears sign a veteran? Then yet another person will have to go (I really doubt we keep 7 WR’s). In that case, barring injury, I think they release Davis and take their chances with Knox on the Practice squad.

This guy any good?
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/08/24/fins-cut-wilford-loose-after-only-one-season/
I think he had a decent season for JAX a few years ago. I don’t think he is anything worth pursuing. Especially a Rosenhaus client.
He was with the Jags
Not sure what happened in Miami, but he was pretty solid before. I think he’s worth taking a look at and would be awesome as a 3rd receiver assuming he returns to form.

Yes, I agree with your picks.
I really think our young guys will all have a surprisingly great season as well as Hester. From what I have seen from Kinder and Knox, it would be smart to at least keep both on the practice squad. I think both are very promising talents. Dropapontamus (Davis) has to go. We gave him enough chances already, bye bye.

I'm not sure why people are starting to get down on Knox...
he only had the one drop in the Buffalo game and it didn’t look to me like he “alligator armed” it, it simply went through his hands. He got very little WR time in the Giants game and he did have one decent return. I still like this kid and, from a speed and WR ability standpoint, prefer him to Hester. I know the Bears wouldn’t agree with me, even if they felt the same, at this point just because it would make them look bad.
I’m not completely down on Hester, but he just doesn’t seem to have the natural ability to be a topshelf WR. Speed isn’t the only requirement for that and that’s all I really see from him. Knox does need to develop but he’s been a WR longer than Hester and you can see it comes to him more naturally.
I hope he makes the team or I see him being one of those stories in a couple of years where he becomes a star on someone else’s team and we’re still waiting for Devin to get better.
My Thoughts
WR 1. Earl Bennett
WR 2. Aromashodu
WR 3 Rideau/Hester
Kick Return / Punt Return: Devin Hester
Knox: needs to grow a set and learn how to take a hit while catching the ball. (practice squad).
Iglesias: Keep developing him. Stays on.
I think if Knox doesn't make the team, he will get put on IR with a fake injury.
That way, we don’t risking losing him on the practice squad. Consider it a redshirt season.
