I'd really, really much rather give all the young guy a shot
but I agree that Davis deserves a chance. I have a ton of respect for what the guy has gone through in order to make it to the NFL and he definitely deserves a season to see what he can do with Cutler.
With that being said, I would still kinda rather keep DA and Rideau on the roster because keeping Davis almost definitely spells the end for one of those two (or at least having to go back on the practice squad). Give the young receivers a chance to learn and grow together and who knows, a star might be born outta that bunch.

Do you really think they'll stay on the practice squad?

If the team decides to go with 6 receivers and keeps
Hester/Bennett/Davis/Knox/Iglesias/DA or Rideau, then one of them has to go back to the practice squad which wouldn’t really be fair for them either since they’ve looked pretty solid throughout training camp and the preseason so far.

he deserves a pass thrown his way
if you’re going to run a competition for roster spots, you should give everyone a shot.
I’d rather run a real competition where the best guy wins a job then give PT to “the young guys” simply because they’re young.
Jerry’s been so distant lately and Lovie barely calls.- Just Dave
What is not fair??...
Davis cannot do the job as well as other people and he may lose his job because of it. Did Rideau get a fair shot the last few years he was on the practice squad while Booker and Lloyd underperformed? Yes, he was given an opportunity and he did not win a roster spot. If you “dropped the ball” at your job with some regularity, would it be fair to fire someone else because your new boss should have to see you screw up before it counts?
There are no stupid questions, but there are a LOT of inquisitive idiots.
All I'm saying is
that we’ve seen what Davis can do for a few years now and it hasn’t been very impressive. He’s been very inconsistent as a receiver and he is replaceable on special teams. Sure he hasn’t gotten a real shot at working with Cutler, but we’ve seen the team give him a chance and watched him fail (besides a handful of positive plays here and there) with lesser QB’s, so what makes you think it would be any different with Cutler who, as we all know, has a cannon strapped to his right shoulder instead of an arm.
In a perfect world I think Davis deserves a legitimate shot but in reality I don’t see him serving much purpose on this roster. I’m hoping to see guys like DA and Rideau, who have been overlooked and have never been given a real shot in the past, get a chance to develop and shine along with Cutler.

I agree ......Living up to his last name huh?
All he needs is a chance? What the hell have the last four yrs been (granted his first was entirely on SP)? Maybe if he’d have held on to a few more passes during that time he’d be running with the big dogs.

Everytime I see an article about Greg Olsen I think my chances of drafting him decrease… I thought I had a sleeper on lock too.

Sayers on the Bears
- Likes Jay Cutler. ( we all do)
- Says we need a few receivers and DB’s. (he must read WCG)
- Thinks Soilder Field is one of the best stadiums in the league
- Is a Fan of AP and Barry Sanders.
- Thinks Matt Forte is going to be great.
- Said if somebody gave him 10mil he’d play some football. Had his knee recently replaced and talked about how hard it is to have knee injuries. (You hear that Tommie?)
- On the new scoreboard in Dallas “The thing about that is the other guy on the filed is usauall in the endzone and the punter is on the other side of the field so most people are watching the tv. If the are going to do that they might as well go home and watch for free.”
- Thinks players now a days should just pay the game and cut out some of the celebrating when they make a tackle or catch a pass.
