Most Overrated Team (WCG Version)
I was sluming over on the DN a little bit ago, and I noticed this gem of an article.
Follow me after the jump for some highlights.
The start of the article claims that the writer thinks the Bears are the most overrated team. He then goes on to explain why.
Thoughts on the D.
Saying that the defense is the same defense of the 4 or 5 years ago is a joke. They haven't performed at that level for quite some time now. I know last year was last year and this year is this year, but the Bears have done little to improve their defense other than release Mike Brown (?) and sign a new d-line coach, who by the way led the lions into infamy last season.
more thoughts
I'm just going to say the pass D is a joke and now without Brown they'll be a bigger joke, evidence of this can be found in the gametape of week 7 and 13. Hell, you can get a better pic of their whole defense in thos tapes.
So.... No Mike Brown means the pass D is a joke. Ok got it. I wonder why week 7 and 13? hmmm...
I didn't know what our special teams were capable of until I saw this. Thank god he cleared everything up for me.
Though they still can be explosive, without Hester there is really no need to pay extra special attention to them. Hester would have been the best returner of all time had he not switched to WR.
On Jay Cutler he had this gem
teams don't trade franchise qbs if they are in fact franchise qbs.
He said a bunch of other garbage about his 17-20 record and the 18 interceptions, but I think the phrase ad nauseum fits for that.
Matt Forte
Matt Forte, is a good up and coming back, but he averaged less than 4 ypc last year.
Came up with that all by himself, just top notch stuff.
WR's... He basically said what we've heard time and time again so I won't bore you with that.
Oline
Their o-line is old and decrepit, players are let go for a reason and Pace hasn't played a full season in quite some time. Kreutz got worked last season. Schaffer let go by the Browns, need I say more. They also allowed their qb to get sacked the ninth most times last season with 43 sacks allowed.
He's got a point in there somewhere, apparently aquiring new personnel means nothing.
And finally this is why he personally thinks the Bears are overrated.
Overrated, because those stats don't impress me. No one on that team has warranted the hype they've gotten this year. Not even Cutler, and especially not their defense.
I'm not surprised by this post from a Vikes fan at all, however he took the time to post where he pulled all his stats. With stats you can make them look the way you want by cherry picking them. Anyway I thought I'd share for those of you who are not on the DN.
Who do you think is the most overrated team in the NFL? Is it Chicago? As always your thoughts are appreciated and welcomed.

Chicago is only overrated by Bears fans
so that one can slide.
The Cowboys tend to be one of the most overrated teams IMO. And the Chargers. They should be dominating the AFC West, but they always find some way to blow it… way to go Norv! If the Vikings don’t do anything spectacular this season, you can add them to the list also.

How are the Bears overrated?
aside from now, when does anyone pick us to win anything?
Aren’t the Vikings usually picked to win the Division, and pre-season Superbowl favorites? playoffs three times since 2000? one division title since we became the NFC North?
hmmm… maybe they should look in the mirror… like above, we (Bears fans) are usually the only ones predicting superbowl year in, and year out

A Team that doesnt...
have a better qb, is possibly losing their DT’s for Four games, lost a WR et cetera. and their safety left too right? Their rookie seems…. aloof? weird? unreliable?
our special teams isn’t the best? isn’t our special teams what DOMINATED the Vikings in our ‘shootout’ last year, guess you don’t want to pay attention to them, because we’re overrated?
and we all loved Mike Brown, but i’m pretty sure he hasn’t been physically as effective last couple years as in the past…
Sorry, just read this and got heated, needed to vent

Possibly being the key word. Also, what wide reciever? No one of any real merit. Berrian, Wade, and Shiancoe were the key targets and they’re still here. Sharper went way downhill, and while losing Birk will hurt, he was also starting to slip a little bit.

Trent Edwards has no superbowl ring
you crazy man. Brad Johnson had a great defense. The Vikings defense is only good. Surely your not comparing the Bucs Team of 2002. Bucs- Mike Alstot, Ronde Barber, Warrick Dunn in his prime, Warren Sapp, Derrick Brooks, Keyshawn Johnson, Simeon Rice, John Lynch? thats three surefire hall of famers just on D and two on the bubble. And by the way If you Meant Trent Dilfer the vikings roster pales in comparison to the team Trent Dilfer was on which had about four hall of famers in Shannon Sharpe, Ray Lewis, Johnathan Ogden, and Rod Woodson. They also had great players in Jamie Sharper, Peter Boulware, Chris McAllister, Tony Siragusa and Sam Adams. Dont compare your team to great teams of the past because it obviously doesnt stack up.
by Staleystan595455 on Aug 6, 2009 11:13 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
The main reason the Bucs won wasn't their team
It was their coach.
Jon Gruden coached the Raiders the previous year and after he left, they never bothered to change the playbook. That was the saddest SuperBowl performance I’ve ever seen.

I agree with you about hutch
but unfortunately linemen get passed over alot in HOF voting unless they are Randall McDaniel. Kevin Williams umm not so sure its not like HOF voters take the top 3 players from every position, it is usually the best of the era at 5 of the 24 positions and I know your a homer but you cant honestly say that KW is the best of his era. Jared Allen is another guy, If you let him in you have to let Julius Peppers, Osi Umenyiora and UGH Aaron Kampman in as well. Your right about AP but, more runningbacks have started out amazing and fizzled than those who have started out amazing and stayed amazing.

truth
Most national analysts are picking the Vikes to win the division. All this with a decent D and an Offense built around one player (granted he is arguably the best player in the league). Let’s not forget, though, that they have 2 mediocre-at-best QBs fighting for that starting job.
Also, a lot of people will tell you that the Bears will finish behind the Vikes AND the Pack.
So, yea, besides for us (and a few national guys) the Bears aren’t getting a whole lot of respect.
by bearcub on Aug 5, 2009 1:37 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
“Offense built around one player”?
Chester Taylor – Great 3rd down back – can pick up blitzes and be a receiver along with running back
Shank – Great TE with 7 TD catches last season and a 14.2 yard receiving average
Berrian – great deep threat with 20 yard average including a 99 yard reception against a certain team – p.s. thanks for letting him go =)
Harvin – OMG he smokes pot all the time and is sick all the time – We’ll see whose laughing once the season starts
by Loki The Viking God on Aug 5, 2009 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
What he means is
you have no player that can step up if AP goes down. Unless Harvin is as good as only Vikings fans think he will be.
by Staleystan595455 on Aug 5, 2009 9:49 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Wrong
AD went down for like 3 games in 2007 with an injury and CT stepped up big time and did better then anyone expected. This included a 164 yard 3TD performance in week 11
by Loki The Viking God on Aug 6, 2009 8:22 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Again, An offense built around one guy.
Chester Taylor- A good 3rd down back. Ok, fair statement. But a 3rd down back is just that.
Shiancoe- A pretty decent tight end. Had a few very good weeks last year. Held his own the rest of the year.
Berrian- Good deep threat when he wants to be, but thats about all you get out of him. 3-4 BIG plays a season. You can have him. He will not be missed.
Harvin- A great talent, but he’s still a rookie. Don’t count your chickens w/ him just yet.
And tell me, who is going to throw to these chaps?? We know all to well about QB battles over here. It means neither one is all that great. I mean, come on, you guys were all gung ho about Old Man Time coming to camp. Now that he’s out of the picture, things are a little different up there.
Be realistic. If AP goes down, it completely changes your team. Drastically. He is the only proven threat on your offense. Not necessarily a bad thing, but pretty risky.
by bearcub on Aug 6, 2009 8:46 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Like I said…in 2007 AD went down with an injury and CT came in as our primary back and did just as good as AD in those games if not better by getting 3 rushing TD’s in one game…CT would be a very serviceable starting RB on any team in the league
by Loki The Viking God on Aug 6, 2009 11:45 AM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Yeah sure he stepped up with those stats
AGAINST OAKLAND LMFAO. The next game he was held to a 2.5 yards per carry average i wouldnt call that “Stepping up big time”

My point was a 164 yard rushing game with 3 rushing TD’s is impressive for any running back no matter what NFL team he’s playing…my point is that CT is a viable RB and shouldn’t be overlooked…my point is that we have more talent on our team then just AD and we wouldn’t be screwed if we lost him in game one

Weren’t they a superbowl favorite last year? and they lost to The Eagles by double figures in the first round if im not mistaken. Purple Penis Eaters= Most Overrated Team in The NFL

Nice to see you not stooping to their level.
But a division champ who has the best RB in football, along with one of the best defenses… can’t really call them overrated in my opinion.
Be nice. Flag comments that you think are offensive. Use the "reply" button. Drink plenty of water. Compliment others. Rec (wreck) comments and posts you like. Don't call people names. If you don't like someone's comment, attack the comment and not the commentor. Learn the difference in your/you're, then/than, to/too. Exercise. Relax. Stretch often. Find good in the world.

You don't need a nickname for the Lions.
Just being 1) a Lion and 2) Detroit, is all the insult that is needed.

To get away from the Packers and ViQueens...
I would have to say the most overrated team is the New Orleans Saints, they are considered a playoff team and are picked to win the NFC Smith about every year, and they never do.
by chase17 on Aug 5, 2009 11:35 PM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The vikings are not an overrated team. Many people think they are a playoff team because of their great running game and fantastic defense. Their running game and defense are proven commodities and should continue to do well next season
The bears on the other hand have the potential to be a great team. If a WR steps up and the O-Line does well then the offense should improve. If the defense returns to form than they can become a SB contender.
My point is that unlike the Vikings, the bears have a lot more “ifs”. The Bears could be a great team but a lot of those question marks are going to have to be answered for that to happen.

Did people say our DE’s play would suffer when we got Jared Allen? Are people saying Wade will not produce this year because we drafter Harvin? Or how about Chester Taylor when we drafted AD….or Loadholt and Cook…..I could keep going….the point is that this is a business and no player’s spot is secure because management is always looking to replace you with a better player.

1. vikings have no quarterback…hell id take sexy rexy over the two on your roster
2. you lost matt birk..great center
3. you drafted an overrated wideout from florida…known to have durability issues
4. your DTs arent smart enough to not use banned substances.nonetheless a diet pill for ladies…need i say viqueens?
5. while we reloaded this offseason your head coach/gm sat around with a finger up his butt waiting for farve.pretty sure they may have even given him head just to get him in town.
6. what do you think will happen when BB gets pissy cause he cant win a playoff game? bolt town like he did here.
7. dont even try to act like cutler isnt a bad ass…he is.. you know it…you are just jealous
8. you have no fan basis and cant even fill up the stadium during a playoff run.
9. you wont sell tickets to bears/packers games cause you are too afraid to have a sea of yellow/green and blue/orange in your stadium.
10. at best you will be no. 2 in the division this year. behind the bears and possibly the packers

So when a few people come over and crap on our floor, you don’t go back and crap on theirs. You ignore them and leave them to their own devices. You also lock the door so they don’t come back, but I have a difference of opinion on that with others.
When you go to somebody's house, you don't crap on their floor. Being a fan of one team does NOT give you license to be a dick to fans of another.

the problem is the stats were cherry picked, the statements made were uneducated, and the opinions were more heavily biased than something on an eagles/redskins website
it was brought here to shed light on what other “teams” in our division are saying about our team.

I like to argue!
However, I like to be realistic. More like debating than arguing. You dig?
1. Plenty has been said about this, obviously. I disagree, of course. I believe Tarvaris or Sage will be a servicable starter.
2. Birk is on the downside of his career. His play has definitely slipped.
3. Hey, I wasn’t a fan of the move either, but it’s not like we need him to be the number one or number two guy. We just need him to make some plays.
4. Our DTs took a diet pill containing a banned substance that wasn’t on the label. Where does the fault lie there, with the players or the manufacturer?
5. The Vikings may not have made any big moves, but they quietly added some role guys to help better our week areas, specifically special teams, wide reciever, and defensive back. We also brought in a quarterback, and while his worth may is debatable, that was hardly doing nothing.
6. That’s a pretty ridiculous claim. He’s made the playoffs with us in the one year he’s been here. Yes, we lost, but I doubt we have to worry about him getting pissy over that.
7. Yes, I’m jealous, but he’s not as good as he’s made out to be. He definitely outclasses our quarterbacks, but I don’t think he makes you favorites to run away with the division like some people think.
8. No fan base? Okay. Because that’s definitely true. It’s not like we have plenty of fans who have been with the team for decades, through the good times, and the really, really bad times. Oh wait… As for not being able to fill up the stadium, sorry we couldn’t fill up a crappy stadium in an even crappier economy. Obviously that means the fans don’t care. I obviously should’ve gotten off my minimum wage Michigan ass and made the trek. I’m such a horrible fan.
9. Yep. That’s why. Definitely why. We’re shaking in our boots. Really! We are. (rolls eyes)
10. Same to you big guy. That’s called the hometown bias. I know Lion’s fans who think they’ll win the division. Blind optimism doesn’t make it true. Take note.
Ouch. You meanie. I hope the Lions beat you twice this year!

also with #4…they took an over the counter drug in order to pee out some water weight…big deal…starcaps weren’t listed on NFL’s banned substances list and the banned substance that was in it wasn’t labeled under the ingredients…how the hell are the Williams’ at fault for that? i am not going
to debate that…starcaps are a dietary supplement and as for the website claims for women. not my words its hers..the old wrinkly lady who markets them. they knew they took a risk of taking any supplement not on the approved list. 4 games is light when you consider a season suspension..yes it is over the top. if it were tommie harris and brian urlacher you would be saying that it is fair- due to fan bias.
and BB went to the playoffs and i believe a superbowl with the bears
i understand a poor economy..i cant get up to chitown to watch my bears
i dont understand why the front office wont sell tickets individually for those 2 games only..they will for the lions and other games.
i will admit i dont keep up with the vikings ’cause i dont care to. all i do know is percy isnt exactly known for being drug free/healthy
i wasnt attacking fans just simply saying if you cant fill a stadium with your own fans-fill it with somebodies fans..its all about the love of the game i would want the bears to do it if they couldnt fill the seats..

I believe the cardinals had a hard time selling tickets in the playoffs last year and needed an extension too…that doesn’t surprise me as Arizona is the destination for many old retired people who wouldn’t find going to a football game very much fun…but honestly, I don’t know why we couldn’t sell out our home playoff game…you’ll probably joke and say we don’t have a large or strong fan base, but I don’t think that’s the reason as I see and hear a lot of purple pride in minnesota…Like Farva said above, it was probably a combination of bad economy and bad stadium

My ass
the ECONOMY is bad. ECONOMY as in everywhere in the UNITED STATES. If the so called fans cant make it to a game at least once a year cuz they want to stay home and watch it on T.V. THEY DONT DESERVE A TEAM. If expensive beer is really whats keeping 20,000+ fans away from a playoff game minnesota really does not DESERVE A TEAM. My cousin Marcus who lives in L.A. drives to Oakland EVERY HOME GAME THE RAIDERS PLAY and thier franchise doesnt enjoy half the success your team does. and boo hoo your stadium sucks. Opposing teams that play my team the chicago cubs have said wrigley field is the worst stadium in baseball, we dont even have a Jumbotron. It doesnt stop us from coming. I still make it to 15-20 Cubs games a year strictly off birthday money and selling video games lmao. Theres a difference between having pride and supporting your team and people up in minnesota obviously dont know that.

7. You clearly are jealous and you really cant judge until he lights up your secondary.
8. Yes NO fan base how many other teams this year almost had to blackout the playoffs? and the Economy is bad for everyone the bears still sell out.
9. What other reason is there?
10. With no quarterback you will no doubt be in the cellar of the division since every other team in it has improved besides you.
If you play against the lions the same way you did last year you will lose. No way you get lucky twice.

1. Check the sig: F-A-R-V-A =/= F-A-V-R-E. Farva is my nickname, and I made my username long before the Favre mess started, and I was always opposed to bringing in Favre.
2. True, I never said he wasn’t. I’m disappointed he’s gone, I just don’t think it’s going to kill our line.
3. Yes, he is. May I borrow that crystal ball?
4. Because they had weight clauses in their contracts and needed to lose weight, not gain it?
5. Every team needs them. Can’t win with just a superstar and nobody else.
6. That’s nice. I like how many Bears fans will bring that up, but as soon as I say we won the division, all the sudden they start screaming “STOP LIVING IN THE PAST!!!”
7. Um… yeah. That’s what I said. I said I was jealous, so you saying I’m clearly jealous is kind of… redundant?
8. The Bears also have a much better stadium.
9. While I admit I don’t pay much attention to the ticket situation (Michigan resident), I have heard many ideas. One is that they were waiting until the Favre signing (whoops), others were so that they could build up some hype and jack up the prices. Either way, I don’t really see how it matters. I live in Michigan, I could care less.
10. That statement is so idiotic I refuse to address it. I’m sorry, I try not to be and A-hole too much, but that statement is so ridiculous, untrue, and ignorant that I don’t even think I should bother wasting words on it.
If being the key word. I don’t exactly see what you’re trying to get at… We had some bad games but got lucky? Like every other team does at some point?
In AP I trust
Just say no to Favre.

ok enough of the numbered posts
Farva/ Farve how do you get a name like that lol. There are plenty of weight loss supplements that arent known as STEROID PRECURSORS, like starcaps, that they could’ve used. You better hope those roleplayers help your horrible special teams. As long as you love your team you will go watch them live, Wrigley field also sucks and has its fanbase potential cut in half. But it will still sell out a playoff game no matter the situation. Idiotic, untrue, ignorant aww did i hurt your feelings. The truth is you managed to win the division in a year where everyteam besides yours had a down year, you werent very good and it showed in the playoffs.

Yes, my feelings are hurt :'(
You might go to watch your team live if you have that kind of money. I love the Vikings, but even if I lived in Minnesota I wouldn’t be able to go too often, and I doubt I’d be able to afford a playoff game. I’m sure that’s the case for many people. And that doesn’t even include other facets of life: family, work, etc. As it is, I always go to the Lions at Vikings game (Which is never that good. The Lion’s crowds suck. At least they did last year.).
And no matter what you say, we still won the division. You can try to justify that however you want, the Vikings still came out on top.

That’s actually where it’s from :D. When I was a freshman, a bunch of seniors said I kinda looked like him (I’ve since slimmed down and grown longer hair), and the name stuck. I never really cared, to tell you the truth. It’s just a nickname, and now when my friends think of “Farva,” they think of me, not of the Officer Rodney Farva.

I thought you meant Farva was your actual given name, not a nickname.

Whatever theres no excuse for a teams fans not to show up in the playoffs you cant even argue that. And no matter what you say you still got spanked by a wildcard team.

no need to “reload” this season we’ve been doing the last three seasons, AD, Bernard Berrian, Shiancoe, Jared Allen ring a bell. Also look who was on the market, aside from cutler, there was really no one with name recognition or talent left in the tank to be a huge contributor on this team. No CB or S, no real WR, no T or G or C really, too bad Birk wasn’t resigned. No DE, no TE. There was really no one that would be a huge upgrade over our current core of players.
by skolvikes on Aug 7, 2009 11:20 PM CDT up reply actions 0 recs
Shiancoe and Berrian
Don’t deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as AD and Allen. There were plenty of great FAs this year, but like you said you guys were ok for the most part.

It would be very hard for anyone to argue
that either the Bears or the Vikings are overrated. We both have pretty good football teams, and there is a good chance that we will both have 11 or 12 wins this year and battling for the North title. 10 probably ain’t gonna get it done this year.

Too funny. Not an LSU fan but that’s just funny. JerBear my wife is a gator fan so she’d be on your side. But if were talking college I gotta go with IU ( I support the football team eventhough they can’t beat anybody). I’m a huge supporter of the bball team, and I know that there is a lot of Illini support on here so I’m sure when bball season comes back around I’m gonna hear it from them and well Allie from Turdue. :)
