Bears Name Greg Olsen Starting TE
It was bound to happen at some point, but the Bears have moved Greg Olsen to the starting line up replacing Desmond Clark.
"It says what type of guy Dez is," Smith said. "Real pros handle it that way, especially when you have a special player in Greg Olsen."
"It is tough to deal with inside, at first, but then when you look at it, I still have a big role in this offense," Clark said after practice at Olivet Nazarene.
The Bears couldn't put this move off any longer. Olsen is a phenomenal talent, he is more in the mold of a Tony Gonzalez or Antonio Gates and you can't keep that on the sidelines. Per reports Olsen and Cutler have also forged a very good chemistry together.

Had to happen eventually
Good thing is I believe Turner will utilize plenty of 2 tightend sets so Clark will be on the filed a good amount of time.

+1
i see you guys using a two TE set much more frequently that a three WR set… given that both TEs are such threats and the receiving core is, well, unknown at best
Four-man sets
Interestingly, Turner has Olsen and Clark split out wide, while Hester and Bennett are in the slots.

I agree.
That was my first thought.

I think Michael Bay has found his Liono for the upcoming Thundercats movie. Man that’s uncanny.

Not on Bears topic,

Can you say Pearl Harbor?
Oh, but it goes much, much deeper than that. It actually has more to do with how he took one of my favorite childhood toys, squatted down and released the big one on it. The way he handled Transformers (tear); some things are just unforgivable.

How do you feel about GI Joe?
I’m not all that happy with how that was handled either. Completely stripped the America away from it.

I'm reserving complete judgement until after I see it.
But from the get go, me no likey! It doesn’t have that “GI Joe, Real American Hero” feel. What’s up with the accelerator suits?

I dunno.
I won’t completely hate it until I see it. But I’ll probably wait until it’s not in theaters.

That's Hilarious!!
Olsen is dead on Liono in that pic…
Maybe we should look at Mauia if he doesn't work out with the cards
we all know McKie can’t do that.

I like this for different reasons
I don’t think he would be named starter unless he is more than a pass-catching TE in the coaches eyes. It says a lot about how far he has come as a blocker and his work ethic to become a more well-rounded player. I hope that he cuts down on the concentration lapses like he had last year at times. He made some amazing catches, but there were a few drops in key situations that made me shake my head.
Of course Dez handled it amazingly. We know what we have in him and how valuable he is. In our O being second TE is like being 2nd WR. They are both pretty much starters. He’s still going to get game time for sure.
I wouldn't be surprised if this was Clark's last season as a Bear
Could be used as trade fodder. We already have some young TE’s being developed.

All the most reason...
… to get Dez a ring this year! :)
Get Dez a ring
Get Dez a ring, Get Dez a ring…………………….
He has the maturity and the game to be called a professional.
I hope he ends his carear as a Bear.
Who could say that about a certain ass hat runningback in Cincy?
Trade fodder?
He’ll be 33 next year. He’s more valuable to us as a #2 TE than whatever we could get for him in return.
I'm not saying he would be the only part of the trade by any means
But he could be thrown in to sweeten any deal.
by PolishSausage.Ditka.Bears. on Aug 5, 2009 7:13 PM CDT up reply actions
Indeed. This came up a lot earlier in the offseason, people suggesting we package him in a deal for whomever was being discussed, but it was pointed out (probably correctly) that, great servant though he’s been and still is for us, he’s not worth an awful lot as trade bait. And, as has been discussed, we use 2-TE formations quite a bit so there’s not a huge difference between having Clark-Olsen and Olsen-Clark.

I never realized
how much Greg Olsen looks like Michael C. Hall aka Dexter

Although
Dexter is a tad bit more bad ass than Greg.

Olsen really needs to step it up this year now that Cutler has "chosen" him...
he has great tools, size, speed, etc., but I get the feeling he is a little soft as a player. He seems to get tackled pretty easily for a guy with his size, and maybe I just can’t get the Carolina game out of my mind, but I don’t remember him making a lot of clutch catches. I’m not saying he can’t do these things, but there are no excuses this year if Cutler is everything we expect and the WR group needing time to establish itself, so now that he’s the starter, I’d love to see him look a little more like Whitten and Gates. TE’s that are real go-to-guys.
