Family Day Tweets

Today, practice is at Soldier Field (and I'm running behind!) So it will have some tweets from players, reporters and our very own source inside the field itself! (Who most of you already know, lol).

As before, I'm following: Brad Biggs, Jeff Dickerson, Greg Olsen, Matt Forte, Vaughn McClure, David Haugh, Fontel Mines, Dez Clark, Tommie Harris, WindyCG and ChicagoBears.com. All links *should* open in a new window!

Be advised: Anyone calling themselves Jay Cutler is a lying liar. (Helmet tip: Roger_Ledger!)

Star-divide

WindyCG: Someone just got proposed to about 10 rows above me. Staley was there and everything... gotta love Bears fans.

WindyCG: "Hanie showing a cannon... Basanez doesn't look bad, just a long delivery ala Byron Leftwich.

WindyCG: Two terrrific catches by #84 thus far.

WindyCG: Knox returning and busted loose. Looks every bit of 4.3 fast.

WindyCG: Cutler's accuracy is pretty good thus far... DB's were interfering too much on some plays. KJ looks good running the ball.

WindyCG: Culter's throw has a little bit of screwball late break. Tell ya what kids....looks beautiful.

BradBiggs: NFL to crack down on offensive pass interference http://bit.ly/13QEEZ

WindyCG: Hoke's workin the DB's.....Vasher looking surprisingly smooth and fluid.

WindyCG: Hillenmeyer's just been running all practice thus far...injury?

WindyCG: Brad Maynard just bombed a 60+ yd punt. He's still got it.

WindyCG: Just saw Larry Mayer....looks like a goof.

WindyCG: HUGE ovations for Cutler and Hester. Humid day this far.

FMines89: Feels like gametime in the locker room...let's go get better

Updates will continue!

More from WindyCG:
J. Gilbert flashin his athleticism….struggles with hand placement, but looks ok otherwise.
Tinoisamoa is a big fella….ridiculously stacked. Might have been one of our better offseason acquisitions.

It continues

WindyCG:

Cutler threaded the ball to Hester on the sideline. Greg O lining up next to Cutler in the shotgun….rather him than McKie.

Tell me about it

For the most part Brad Maynard has been the most stable Bear player and Along with Gould and Briggs he has stayed healthy and preformed 100% to his ability each and every game

And...

he’s a BALL STATE alum!

Don't forget about the most steady/dependable of all

Patrick Mannelly. There’s a good chance that neither Maynard or Gould would have the stability and success they’ve enjoyed if it wasn’t for his near perfect performance over all these years.

Quick notes from practice

I’ll expand in a lengthier post later this week, but here are my initial thoughts:

1) Best compliment I can give to the OL is that I didn’t really notice them. They got beat on a few plays, but otherwise played well.

2) To my shock, the WR’s did a fantastic job. #84 had two great catches, Hester did well. About the only one I didn’t notice was Iglesias.

3) Johnny ‘Know’ Knox is really quick. I know some of us bashed him because all he had was speed, but he’s good. He could make an impact this year.

4) Kevin Payne, Nathan Vasher, and Craig Steltz looked good. Smooth, fluid, and good hands. Vasher interfered with the WR on a terrific throw by Cutler.

5) Cutler didn’t really show off the cannon. He made some nice throws tho.

6) Jarron Gilbert needs to work on his hand placement….otherwise looked decent.

7) K. Jones looked much much better running the ball.

More later….

Just got home...

Brandon Rideau (#84) really stood out today, got a lot of passes thrown his way and made nice catches.

Corey Graham had a pick 6 off Caleb Hanie (I think), on a play where Hanie had to roll out of the pocket to buy more time. Graham jumped the comeback route to the QB… very nice play.

Hard to get any real measure of line play, since… well… it’s practice, and it’s not game level intensity. Much easier to judge defensive backs vs receivers.

Johnny Knox looked fast, and got a lot of looks. Also returned kicks. But, he limped away after a catch… hope it’s nothing serious

i’m still laughing!!! i would also like to say thank you for the diligence, i know it can’t be easy. if i could wreck it twice i would…

Just settling in from getting back

Hester had a nice grab over a CB in the endzone, where he went up and got the ball.

Not good seeing Knox limp off the field as he was doing awesome on kick returns prior to the injury.

Thought it was pretty interesting seeing the D Line men bust their asses during individual drills and Tommie is sitting there chillin and watching. I know they’re watching how much they practice Tommie, but it’s Family Day he should have done something.

Not a huge Hanie believer, but he looks like he’s improving and might be a decent #2.

Loved how Babich got boo’d when he came out in the beginning.

Very interested and pumped for this season after today.

You expect any different from Tommie?

What a joke he is.

Babich getting booed started off the day right.

Seems like everyone was really bustin it during the position breakouts at the beginning. Did Hillenmeyer get re-injured again? Or is he still coming back from his sports hernia surgery? He spent the first half-hour of practice running sideline to sideline.

Hillenmyer's been banged up

He had both ankles and a wrist iced at some point during the week. Dickerson was keeping count.

More observations from me...

Our TE group is going to be very integral in the offense this year. Greg Olson looks SO MUCH BIGGER than everyone in the secondary when he’s running routes… it’s awesome. And Dez Clark is solid as we know. Also, Kellen Davis is a giant at 6’7" and Fontel Mines (probably won’t make the roster again) also appears to be a big target out there.

I wanted to see more hitting in the position drills… not enough contact for my liking, as they prepare for a season of football. And, I don’t know exactly what they were focusing on in the LB drills with the makeshift line made out of garbage pails… but, it looked rather unproductive to me.

Also, there was a WR drill, where two guys had to catch the ball together… using one hand each, and catching it in a high five sort of motion, as the ball would stick between the high five… not sure what that was trying to focus on, but it was cool to watch.

I didn’t think Cutler had a very great day of camp. The one deep ball in the scrimmages was very overthrown… and there were too many passes that weren’t right on the mark, where the receiver didn’t have an opportunity to catch and run.

Eh

Cutler didn’t have the best day, but it wasn’t the worst. His accuracy wasn’t great, but even when it was, one of the DB’s seemed to interfere.

I was wondering what the LB’s were doing….the DB’s were right in front of me, and they were at least quasi-productive compared to the other groups.

The one thing I think I do know... after yesterday:

Brandon Rideau and Johnny Knox are going to make this team.

Oh... and #2

Brett Basanez should be replaced with another prospect. He’s unimpressive, and fumbled another snap… as people were saying he was dropping snaps earlier this week.

If the Bears do add an experienced QB

Like the recent post on the main page said… I’d say he’d replace Basanez for sure… they really like Hanie.

I just hope it's not Griese again.

Seeing him walk on the field gives me the same feeling as seeing Aaron Heilman walk out to the mound.

Definitely. I thought those days were done when they dropped Bob Howry

but I was sadly mistaken. The worst part is, the Marmet doesn’t set my mind at ease anymore either.

Maybe I haven't been paying attention.

But one thing I noticed when I looked over the roster sheets at Family Day is that not a single member of the 2005 draft is on the Bears current roster. There are two 1998 draftees on the roster (Mannelly and Kreutz) and just about every year till the present, but no member of the 2005 draft. As a matter of fact the only thing we have to show from 2005 are 2 UFA’s (Garza and Rashied Davis) Did we really do that bad that year???

If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.

Oh...

we also picked up Gould on waivers that year so I guess it wasn’t a complete wash.
