Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

4 interceptions, but I still love Jay Cutler, and you should too.

Even though the Bears lost, it was not a total loss.

Cutler made a few connections to all three prominent WRs Hester, Bennett, and Knox. Cutler had 3 big interceptions, one of which led to a touchdown for GB, but they were not his fault, whether players gave up on the play, or ran the wrong routes (see Dez Clark for the former and the latter). Hester made a few great plays and I truly believe he will be #1 by the end of the season. My thoughts are that we will make the playoffs this year, but next year is when the Superbowl push will start (think of this year as 2005).

Star-divide

Why next year? Our defense is aging!

Exactly, we are beginning a new era on defense with prominent veterans from the 2006 Superbowl era. We now have a great Dline Coach (are you sick about hearing about this too?!) that will help the Bears Defense become top 5 potentially. The Dline is not there yet, just because Ogunleye got 2 sacks tonight and several pressures doesn’t mean our Dline is there (Ogunleye is in a contract year, he won’t be next year). The new defensive lineman like Gilbert and Harrison will be anchoring this team next year, Tommie Harris is no longer the player he once was.

Chemistry, the Central Science

Cutler needs time to develop chemistry with his WRs. Hester will still be a WR next year, Bennett will hopefully become a Hines Ward type receiver with sure hands. Knox is a rookie, and even with 86 yards tonight he showed it; on the final drive he gave up that ball as he lost his footing. Will Juaquin Iglesias step up? I sure hope so, I still have high hopes for him, but I don’t see him getting much time this year unless there are injuries.

Building for the Future

The 2010 NFL Draft will be stacked with Wide Receivers well into the third round, so you don’t have to worry about the fact that we don’t have a 1st round draft pick. Before Afalava I wished the Bears had a 1st round draft pick so they could go after Taylor Mays, the USC safety, who happens to be my favorite college player of this past decade, but I feel a lot better about the safety situation after this game with Payne and Afalava. We need a Cornerback badly though, I wouldn’t be saying this if Tillman and Bowman (talk about counting my eggs before they hatch!) could stay healthy. The Bears #1 need right now is CB, if we cannot draft CBs well the next two years it may put in jeopardy the playoff and Superbowl push of the upcoming years. DJ Moore did not look good in preseason, McBride isn’t an elite corner, Tillman is injured too often, and don’t get me started on Vasher!

It’s all about getting hot for the Superbowl

Partially yes, but if you have a great team it doesn’t hurt, see New England Patriots and Pittsburgh Steelers. Going along with that idea, we have players that have been to the Superbowl, those players are hungry, real hungry, and that’s going to help us in the next couple of years.

Sorry if this entire fanpost seems a little farsighted, I’m always staring Through The Looking Glass.

I am not giving up on this year

After watching all the games yesterday you can’t tell me we are not one of the top 10 teams in the league. Right now in the NFC it’s the Gmen/Eagles and then us/GB/Vikings. Everyone else is below that group. Hell the cowboys gave up 400 yards to TB. In the AFC Pats, Steelers, Ravens then a group of Indy/SD/Tenn who we are just as good as. Just remember the cardinals went to the superbowl last year.

I would say

really in the NFC, it’s only the Gmen right now, because Donovan McNabb is not the type of guy who’s going to come week in and week out and take shots to his broken ribs.

I don’t think that I would put SD in the 2nd tier in the AFC either.

I am hoping now that we can win 10 games, which I think we will because of the middle of our schedule. I don’t think we will go far into the playoffs as of yet, if the entire team was healthy (see Urlacher, Tillman, Bowman, McBride, Kevin Jones, Pisa, even Tommie Harris to an extent) then we would have much better odds, but we don’t even have a true 2nd RB and that’ll show the further we get into the season.

The Cardinals went to the Superbowl last year because Larry Fitzgerald is the best WR in the league (sorry Andre Johnson) and he was having the best weeks of his career playing his mind out. I don’t want to go to the Superbowl (err) I want to win the Superbowl.

winnable

The game yesterday was winnable through most of it, so there is a lot of reason to be optimistic.

I completely agree

Dez Clark let a TD slip away, Cutler threw a INT in easy FG range (to Jolly), and we were on the 3 yard line and could not get a TD!

I think we’re a good ballclub, but these things I listed have to happen for us to take a step forward towards become legit SB contenders. The media (SI) may have dubbed us NFC North Champs, but that means nothing when the game is played

Cut out the mistakes and we are way better than GB.

We will still have a great year this season. Growing pains, thats all. Impressed with Hester and Defense.

Not one NFL Expert

picked the Bears to win in Green Bay… well, maybe a few did, but none I saw or read…

With that being said they had their chance to win, with all the bad that happened, they were in it til the end.

Now if Urlacher is out for the year, the Bears better have a better plan B than simply inserting Hunter at MLB.

pretty much my prophecy

is coming full circle, Injuries will writhe this team (the exact opposite of what I want to see), but on a plus note I seeing us being the team to beat next year and the year after

your points are valid.

of course i would like to see da team do well this year as well…however we’ve already got some significant injuries though after preseason and sunday night’s debacle now. a few more and we are gonna be lucky to stay out of the nfc north cellar. still surprised we were close to winning that game because we should have been getting blown off the field with some of the shitty bears play we saw. i hope beekman stays the starter goddamn omiyale was getting embarrassed so bad. hopefully some of the talent/position deficiencies especially in the secondary can get addressed over the next year along with (supposedly) a good FA class coming up.

another silver lining if a crap season should occur this year should get me that much closer to finally clearing the waiting list for season tickets
