I wish you'd gotten a better warning...

But with the quarterback frenzy that was raging for so many clubs who hadn't yet gotten (or didn't want) the chance to pull someone from the NFL Draft; I honestly think that the Bears just didn't get enough time to evaluate Jay. I mean, you guys rarely play the Broncos as it is, so you don't have much first-hand experience with him.

Cutler is very talented. Cutler is very athletic. Let me also assure you, Cutler is very capable of making the most impossible of throws. But his biggest strength is his biggest weakness.

I am a die-hard Bronco Fan, and I loved watching Cutler play; I was a fan that blamed everything on our defense. I was happily-blinded by his brilliance, potentials, and capabilities. He could light up a team at-will sometimes; zipping the ball into a perfect window for huge yards after the catch and on lethal deep bombs.

But...

Star-divide

His ability to make this happen sometimes (and sometimes often, as you all experienced against GB tonight) overrides his rationale and decision making, and he will start trying to force things continually. It can get ugly, and very ugly sometimes with Jay. If I were to state here: "Don't worry, it's the timing, it's the receivers." Then I would be lying straight to your face. But I'm not here to do that, I've got nothing against the Bears, in fact I highly enjoy watching you guys play and win. But Jay was working with Eddie for the first time last year and had phenomenal success. Granted, he is learning a new system over there, much like Kyle is here... but those kind of INTs are not the bad-timing INTs, those INTs are the Bad-Jay/scary INTs.

Jay's college scouting reports had some warnings, but the overriding statement was: "The rewards outweigh the risks." With an overall losing NFL Record, this has yet to be proven. Denver's defense was atrocious last year, but that in no way accounts for all the INTs or the lack of success in the Red Zone. I wish I could say that I honestly hope he pans out for you in the future...

...but I am SO SICKof the media condemning the trade like it was the dumbest decision in Bronco History. Denver wanted a new direction, Chicago wanted a new direction; does there HAVE to be a winning side? Why can't both teams have gotten a great deal? I want you guys to lose if only to shut up the stupid nay-saying!

Every Chicago fan I have had a decent, intelligent conversation with (which has been ALL of them) has had few, if any bad things to say about Orton. Most of them really liked the guy and wished he'd remained on the roster and some other QB had gotten traded out to bring Cutler in. Despite what the media might be saying, the Denver fans at MileHighReport think highly of Kyle despite his slow and rugged start; and I believe that feeling is justified. The guy is humble, a hard worker, and accepts responsibility for his actions. He's a leader and every player in the locker room has only good things to say about him.

After reasoning with myself, I can withdraw my wish for the Bears to lose, because I like the Bears a lot. I'll just have to ignore the MSM's comments and continue being a fan and adoring my team. I really hope the Chicago coaches, and Jay find a way to utilize his talent and restrict his mistakes, I do. I want the MSM to see that both teams can be better off.

Denver is loving Kyle, Robert Ayers, Alphonso Smith, and Richard Quinn whom we have received in the trade. J. Knox looks like a great acquisition for yourselves as well, and I hope Jay gets the kinks out and produces for you guys.

I also hope that you have a similar encouragement for Kyle, even if unspoken. I understand he's gone, and not a concern of yours, but he seems very fond of Chicago and his former teammates and I can't imagine anyone disliking the guy. Disliking his play at times maybe, but doesn't everyone have rough games??

Everyone in the media praises the Bears and counts them in as a Superbowl contender but the Broncos get no such respect anymore. I believe our D has shored up, and elevated it's game. Our offense will sputter until it finds its rhythm, but it will find it's rhythm. Maybe, just maybe... we can get a rematch on that preseason game in the Big Bowl. Of course that is supposed to sound ridiculous to you guys though. After all, Denver defense is horrible and Kyle Orton is a joke right??

Thanks for reading Windy City and best of luck to you all this year!May we see you in the big game and finally shut up all the media critics with their fact-less dispositions on our teams!

I've heard it only from the few chicago fans I know, but despite all of the drama... Did you like Orton as a player on your team (and not necessarily as the starting QB)?

Something even you and I can agree on.

In all seriousness, thanks for the warnings Broncos’ nation. Now please, be gone! Enough with the same old regurgitation.

I highly doubt it.

Long time, no “talk.” How’s life?

And you need to talk to your boy Mannelly. What’s up with that?!?

Life is good.

The boy turned 1 on Friday so had those festivities going on this weekend. He’s not so happy with Cutler, he wanted a victory for his b-day. I called Mannelly and told him if he ever does that again I’m revoking his MVP status, I also threated a shot to the nuts. I think he got the message. How’s life on your end?

Life's Dandy!

Wifey just got back home on Friday from Norfolk (YUK!), so all is well. And congrats! I love this age, our little one’s 18 mos. now and she’s really coming into her own. It’s just amazing to see them start understanding the simple things. And just tell him Cutler will make up for it next week, he’ll throw a TD, just for him.

I’m also glad you got Mannelly straightened out. Nice job threatening the roshambo, he obviously has some large danglers to pull a stunt like he did last night.

Cmon smudge...Ditka, USMC is no more a troll than I am

Guys, please…we are just trying to help. Open your eyes, and at least CONSIDER the possibility that we know what we are talking about. I, too like the Bears (my NFC favorite) and it kills me that he will hurt your team as much as he hurt ours. Seriously, I’d take Kyle over Cutler plus a backup Cutler. He is truly BAD NEWS, BEARS.

Um Tom

I never said anybody was a troll, neither did smudgers.

I appreciate your concern but speaking only for myself. I read enough of the above sentiment from Bronco nation. I have no problem with you guys coming by and posting, but it’s becoming old, very old same old rehtoric since the trade. I will make my own opinion of Cutler and his effect on my team. I don’t need someone to constantly tell me “I told you so”. I don’t go on the Texans Blog and tell them how sucky Grossman is and if he ever gets in a game he will implode the Universe. They can make their own opinion.

Cedric Benson was reborn in Cincy, anything is possible.

Great points. I hope our community is going around to others telling them how it is.

Now with that said, I thought this was a pretty respectful post and a lot less I told you so then most.

I have no problem with a gun slinger as long as you do more good than harm. Brett Farve got 2 Superbowls and that is more than the Bears have total. I also think as young as he is, he may turn out to be a little bit wiser than Brett was. In Brett’s wiser season’s he was pretty awesome!

Did you save this for a handy time?
I honestly think that the Bears just didn’t get enough time to evaluate Jay.

They had plenty of time, every team does. There’s this little thing called “game-tape,” that organizations use to evaluate players. Jay has real physical tools and talent, Orton has very little of both- there’s no way to judge this trade until 3 years from now….please stop trying to. He’s only 26, it’s not like he’s in his late thirties; the Bears traded for him because of his “upside” and the stability he brings to the franchise. If every Bronco fan looked through unbiased eyes last night, it wasn’t all on Jay. 3 of his 4 Ints could’ve been avoided by the WR finishing his route and fighting for the ball.

I agree, everyone has got their film. And I am sure Chicago watched every minute they could.

But having film doesn’t compare to real first hand game planning against him. I can garantee the teams inside our division could make a more accurate analysis of Jay. There are intangibles that the camera just can’t catch. And I still think the trade happened on a very truncated timetable for Chicago. Yes Denver technically was listening to calls for a while, but I hadn’t heard a word or seen any interest from the Bears until the very end. Early on Denver only gave the impression that they wanted Cassel. They didn’t acctually confirm he was open for anyone until days before Chicago chimed in.

That statement was total opinion hence the inclusion of “think”.

No guilt by association here

I’m fine with criticism when it’s due, but I’m really tired of being grouped together with blind Bear fans (You know…Cutler can do no wrong). It’s extremely insulting and comes off as ignorant. KC Joyner does the same thing in his chat every week.

Fair enough

but I still think the Bears did their “homework” on him, and were well aware of his bad tendencies. How could you not? I’m sure his pouty face mini-tantrums were on tape, and almost certain there were calls made to people who knew him well. Again, if the guy was 32 it wouldn’t make sense to trade for him, but I believe he’ll turn the corner and play within himself and the offense. There’s risk with any trade, draft pick, or FA signing. This was no different.

They began looking at him back when the Buccanneers were calling for him.

Our GM said they began researching everything they could. That was at least a month in advance. Also, I’m not sure what you can see on tape that a franchise could not consider they have much better non TV angles they use to dissect anything in a game.

Another Broncos fan here:

so take it for what it’s worth.

Yesterday, watching Kyle Orton slice and dice the Bengals with pinpoint precision (I kid), I found myself saying, three or four times, “That’s a throw Cutler would have completed.” I can’t tell you how many times you’ll be watching a game as a Bears fan, and say, “Holy crap. ONE INCH LOWER and that’s picked off!” It’s uncanny! He’ll throw it anywhere, and more often than not (I don’t care what anyone says), he’ll stick it in there.

Of course, it doesn’t always work out that way. It actually goes wrong way more than it should, for him to be a great QB.

As he matures, I’m convinced he’ll learn to make less of the plays that don’t make it past the defender’s fingertips. But it’s going to be painful for you until he figures that out.

LOL, we'll see how many "Wins" he is creditted for when his defense doesn't hand them to him.

He went 13-3 in 2005 when our Defense was #1 in the league an automatic victory. Our defense had is in field goal range on turnovers for at least half our points. Kyle handed the ball off all day. Look at his throwing numbers that year.

The point is that Kyle easily had a 10 win cushion to improve his stats. Also, he probably won us 2 games last season. In those games he sucked for most of the game but had the one drive that counted.

You can shut down the cocky train on the greatness of Orton. We liked him. He was a game manager. We did win games, but not because of him. We asked him to stay out of the way. Rarely did he win us a game. If you love Orton, go pick up Trent Dilfer for a backup. He actually won a Superbowl.

I understand that you felt the need to post here after last night’s game. In the aftermath of Cutler’s horrible first half we were easy targets. Any Bronco fan that sits here and tries to convince us Bears fans we have the worst end of the trade is a homer. I hope to see your post when Cutler has good games as well. Otherwise we can assume you to be a hypocrite.

LOL, I think several people missed the entire point of the post… and ya, I do get the point that several of you feel that no one but a Bear’s fan should post here, or at the very least, Bronco fans should stay away, as most of them will at some point not share your point of view. Shrug. Sorry about that, but it’s life in a public forum. In the balance, I have seen fewer of us posting what you don’t want to hear about Cutler than we saw posts at MHR about “losing” Cutler in the first place. The first three games of the season we heard a lot from you about how stupid the Broncos were and how you stole Cutler from us, and now your tired of hearing from us. = )
I still look forward to seeing Cutler planted a few times this year, I still wish the bears well, and I still think that you got a good deal. Maybe we did OK as well. Stay classy guys.

Understand this, we have been having people wandering over from MHR and repeating the same thing as all of these posts and the start of this thread since the trade.

I, for one, am sick of listening to the broken record.

So, I’ll say it once and I am done:

Seriously?

If everyone went to MHR and started posting our “warnings” and/or “concerns” about Orton, we would get the same reaction that you guys are getting now.

I like posting at MHR, you guys and gals are a pretty humorous lot. I’d also like to think that I have a pretty good rapport there. But, I also don’t post about Orton every time I go either!

Point taken

Naturally, you are always welcome at MHR regardless of that which you choose to post about.
smudgers: you definately have a good rapport with me personally, therefore I would like to offer my sincere condolences for the loss of Urlacher.

Thanks.

But it’s alright, injuries happen. It could have been worse. We could have loss Josh Bullocks for the season, right?!? Who’s with me? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?

Anderson?

On a serious note though, it would be devastating to lose Josh.

thanks about #54

i think the only person i know of personally who is happy about brian not playing is the wifey….only because she is in lust with hunter and is now going to be watching the game a little more intently when the defense is on the field

As long as

what you post is as classy, and well intentioned as USMC’s post, there would be no problem. I think this whole post got blown out of proportion. I read the entire thing…..yes I’m a Denver fan, yes I was a huge Cutler fan. (and now I’m not but only because he is not OUR QB….there is no other reason at all.)

But the point stands, people got defensive when this was a good natured post. thats understandable. but remember you are welcome to MHR anytime you like, as long as your posts are classy and not trolling.

So in summation, a single response of “I appreciate your concern, and or views but please let this subject die.” would have been understandable and warrented as it appears. but screaming about taking over MHR and how you would get a bad reaction….well no you wouldn’t. Just be Factual…..Classy…..and informed in your posts. I can’t speak for everyone else, but USMC is one of the classiest members we have, and I can assure you he meant no ill will.

Almost not even worth responding... almost.

The point is, we do not care if you are, or are not, a Cutler fan. We have been told 1000 times in 1000 different fan post about your fan’s concerns on your ex-Quarterback. And at first, some of it was well received by some fans. But now, it is getting really old and tiring. No, USMC didn’t mean anything by it. Never said he did. But it is ANOTHER one of THOSE post that keep popping up almost a half a year past the trade.

Good natured, bad natured, who the eff cares. Stop posting your “warnings” on WCG. And if you have ever read WCG, in this post and others, you would have seen where I have stated what you said many, many, many times.

Also, I have been to MHR many times and have developed a pretty solid rapport with quite a few of your members. Still, I don’t go there trying to re-hash the same old crap as other WCG members have for the past 5 months. I would hope there is more that our two fan bases can talk about beyond your concerns on Cutler.

I mean no ill towards USMC either. His post wasn’t lacking “facts” or un-classy, it was just something that has been said, by MHR members over here ad nauseam.

My comment above about “taking over MHR” was a joke. Get a sense of humor.

In-freakin'-credible!

What, you couldn’t go post that in a fanpost at MHR? ;)

I read two sentences and that was enough for me:
I honestly think that the Bears just didn’t get enough time to evaluate Jay. I mean, you guys rarely play the Broncos as it is, so you don’t have much first-hand experience with him.

What the hell does that mean? This is 2009. Teams have more game tape than they know what to do with. But we all know that unless you play a team there’s no way to scout their players.

Orton

I like Orton because he got us Cutler. But to say that Denver wanted to go in a new direction … what … the Orton direction ? The direction that saw him throw one pass over 30 yards last season ? If Denver focus on running the ball with that great OL they have, they will have success. If they need to go downtown in a hurry though …. doom.

i like cutler because he got us two 1st round draft picks and a 3rd round draft pick

orton’s alright, i guess. at least he won’t lead the league in interceptions this season

From Turner
“If it had anything to do with leadership, it’s totally, totally off-base,” said Turner. "[Cutler]‘s as good a leader as I’ve ever been around. It’s not right for people to say something unless they’re right there seeing what’s going on. I could not be happier, and every guy in that locker room and everybody upstairs, could not be happier with him, and his demeanor and his leadership.

“I talked to coaches in Denver, I talked to players in Denver, and I know how the players and coaches here feel. People that have been in that locker room with him, and been in that huddle with him, and been in meetings with him, know what kind of leader he is. For someone to say something negative in that regard is totally, totally off-base. I don’t care who said it, or how much football they know and everything else, it’s totally off base.”
