Some Positives
There were a lot of negatives last night, and they will be rehashed over and over, so I thought it would be worthwhile to post a few positives...
- The wide receivers were not that bad. One of the major weaknesses of this team coming in was the inexperience at the wideout position, but the wideouts had some very nice plays against a tough secondary.
- Cutler isn't actually this bad. He had his worst game ever as a QB. That's not going to last all season, and had he played just a tiny bit better (e.g. no interception in the red zone, one or two better passes), we would have been talking about a big bears win.
- Brian Urlacher is not as irreplaceable as he once was. OK - this is a bit of a stretch, but still, Urlacher is older and not as big of a presence as he used to be. His absence is not going to hurt them as much as it would have a number of years ago.
- Unless the O-line truly stinks, Forte will have a better season than he showed last night.
- The defense, depleted as it was, made a very good QB in Rodgers, look out-of-sync all night (up until that last play). No one player seemed to stand out, but overall, despite what Lovie says about turnovers, the defense did its job.
- Patrick Mannely is never going to make that mistake again.

Sounds like bad justifications.
Let me start by saying, I agree with most of what you said… but to say they normally aren’t that bad isn’t really a good argument.
1. With the exception of Knox and Hester’s over the shoulder grabs, which were great… where did they look good? On the screen plays or slant routes? With the exception of those two plays, most of the plays they made were average at best or made thanks to Cutler. Not to mention, Horrific route running and who lines up offsides on offense?
2. The one time I truly said “What is Cutler doing?!” is when he had 2 near picks and then threw the pick. The other is when he threw it to Bennett who was covered by four Packers.
The other pick was down right stupid when that fat Jolly made a nifty (lucky) interception on a center screen within the 15 yard line. Who runs a center screen in the red zone? Then the 2 other picks where Dez Clark not running his route and Johnny Knox breaking off of his. If they finish their routes, neither of those get intercepted.
When he had an opportunity and moment stand in the pocket and throw Cutler looked great.
3. The defensive line looked tough. The secondary made some decent plays, but overall left lots to be desired. This makes the loss of Brian Urlacher really sting. If the secondary doesn’t pick it up other teams will have a field day on the Bear’s D.
4. Pace looked old and un-athletic. Williams looked like he was lost. Omiyale got crushed by Jenkins… what will the Williams twins do against him when the Bears play the Bears? The Bears o-line needs to turn it around, because the Bear’s defense is going to need a hand.
Other than that…
If the Bears win that game Rodgers would have looked terrible and Cutler would have made a great second half comeback, despite poor receiver play. But, no… the media will always take a shot at Cutler when possible.
Forte… please be ready to handle to work load because the Bears are seriously lacking in depth behind you without Kevin Jones. Yea, that’s a crack on you Wolfe.
