Around SBN: How Not To Criticize Tom Brady For The Patriots' Loss

Another Bear Bites the Dust, Desomond Clark Out for a Few Weeks

The lose to the Green Bay Packers  has now become the least of our problems.  The Bears have suffered a rash of injuries in the game.  Brian Urlacher, Pisa Tinoisamoa and Trumaine McBride are already out for extended periods of time.

Now TE Desmond  Clark is our for a "few" weeks with a cracked rib.

Clark took a big shot from behind from Packers safety Aaron Rouse at the end of a 23-yard reception, and it’s believed the injury is to the back side of his ribs.

Luckily, the Bears are deep at the TE spot and Clark is not the starter, but with Olsen getting shut down by the Packers, he still has an impact.

has anyone heard if the Bears are going to sign Hank Baskett?

This is a hybrid. This is a cross, ah, of Bluegrass, Kentucky Bluegrass, Featherbed Bent, and Northern California Sensemilia. The amazing stuff about this is, that you can play 36 holes on it in the afternoon, take it home and just get stoned to the bejeezus-belt that night on this stuff.

pick a backup wr or cb/ss

would be my guess. i doubt they would get this guy anyway, is he really an upgrade over our current underacheiving wr corps?

I Agree Sackman

Nice hands, decent speed and a big target. I hope he really establishes himself with this oppotunity.

Just a little 411

Last time Cutler played the Steelers in ’07, he beat them, and posted a 106.7 QB rating.

by Nih1lus on Sep 15, 2009 7:55 PM CDT reply actions

Cue in Davis

This might be a silver lining for him to come in and make an impact. He’s a much needed, huge target to give Cutler.

Not the "bite" on the run by afalava...

Leaving Nathan “Which way did he go Doc, which way did he go?” Vasher in 1 on 1 coverage with the best receiver in Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota and arguably the entire midwest? We hold them there and on the next 4th and 1 and we’re all rejoicing in dodging the bullet. But I get your point, Clark was a major swing.

My real point is that the coaching staff was treating that play like the Pack would've punted on 4th down.

And they should have realized it was 4 down territory so and offensive play should’ve been anticipated. Can’t over commit to the run when pass is a very viable option. Trust in your front 4 and be prepared for anything.

If you can't laugh at yourself you must not be very funny.

by Just Dave on Sep 15, 2009 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions

situation definitely called for keeping the safeties back

doing so would have even accounted for Vasher’s aggressiveness towards the run in the situation. whether by design or player miscue the play was far too aggressive with the secondary which will be overmatched almost always at this point.

i expect to see many more plays like this against us this year.

by No It All on Sep 15, 2009 10:33 PM CDT up reply actions

it was a miracle that was the only time the secondary got torched.

Our secondary is not good enough to rely on at the end of games (obviously hindsight and all that). Everybody knew single coverage was the Packer’s game plan and that if they succeeded they would probably win. Yeah that play was tragic, but inevitable.

If Clark catches that early TD it changes the whole course of the game and our offense. The Jolley interception on the next play took away even a chance at 3 points. Watch Clark on the play, he simply stops running his route to turn look around. Had he kept running his route it is a sure touchdown. It was so bad even Chris Collinsworth called him out. The bomb and the fake punt were both tragic, yet I maintain that Clark’s horrible route was the worst play for the Bears all game.

by No It All on Sep 15, 2009 10:20 PM CDT up reply actions

how can you say what was more pivotal?

I would say the fake punt was the most pivotal it put the Bears defense on their heals thus breaking the game open to a degree. Seeing as how the Bears defense was keeping them in the game. It’s amazing to me that they should and could have won that game.

by SoulEater7 on Sep 15, 2009 10:12 PM CDT up reply actions

mindnumbing play that fake punt

but Clark’s dropped TD was simply not NFL caliber football. Its all hypothetical but a td on that play and i the offense gets rolling. I think the positive momentum from a td on that play would have been incredible and would have changed the entire complexion of the game greatly in our favor… plus then Urlacher probably wouldn’t have gotten hurt : ).

If Johnny Knox stays inbounds and scores

We’re not talking about Clark’s missed TD catch, or Jolly’s INT.

that is exactly whar we are talking about

likelihood of johnny knox breaking those tackles to score is slim. but an NFL TE has to catch that pass in the endzone and can’t miss it in the manner that Clark did.

by No It All on Sep 15, 2009 10:40 PM CDT up reply actions

What? Johnny Knox had an easy TD all the way...

and a little shove in the back caused him to step one foot out of bounds en route to the end zone. He should’ve scored on that play, but he tried to tightrope.

The next two plays after that:

Clark’s drop, and Jolly’s INT

Seriously

maybe if Johnny Knox fails to get into the endzone after his 10th year.

The problem was not the rookie Knox failing to turn a great play into a spectacular one, but the 10 year veteran Clark’s inability to make a simple must have catch in the endzone that he missed inexcusably.

Knox’s play was all gravy, not negative, but gave us positive momentum and set us up for an easy score. After that play everything was going great – great play. The problem was we did not convert that easy score because of Clark’s bad route. IMO Not converting that TD was responsible for the Jolley INT, on the other hand i cannot see the logic for claiming that Knox’s good play was.

by No It All on Sep 15, 2009 10:54 PM CDT up reply actions

all the other plays people are discussing required decent plays by GB

(debatable with the fake punt, but had GB messed up and we converted)

but Clark’s bad play was all him… no communication lapse or bad play call, he simply dropped the ball

by No It All on Sep 15, 2009 11:01 PM CDT up reply actions

All he had to do was stay in bounds... and it's a TD

And a 60+ yard TD bomb, is a HUGE momentum shifter… and gives us a 7-3 lead.

If he scores, you’re not even discussing the two horrendous plays that followed, because they don’t even happen.

Clark is getting older

I felt like his dropped passes the other night were finally age catching up with him. Davis had a decent preseason and should get some playing time and maybe he makes an impact. Plus maybe we even see Gaines getting worked in as a FB spelling McKie.

I'm watching highlights again of the game

And there’s a re-occuring theme: Frank Omiyale getting housed over and over again. Like a friggin turnstyle at LG. Get Beekman back in there.

LOL

I was saying the exact same thing, Omiyale needs pulled, specially since Beekman was doing better at Run Blocking anyway.

by Jacob Hayes on Sep 16, 2009 11:37 AM CDT up reply actions

Thank you for bringing up Omiyale's ineptitude

This was the Bear’s prime FA target during the off – season; all we heard about before the Cutler trade was how awesome he was, despite starting all of 2 games for the Panthers. He looked terrible out there, even worse than Pace. And let’s now forget about Williams – fairly awful as well. We only go as far as the O – line will take us, and Cutler’s toast if they don’t start figuring out Lebow’s blitzes on every down. Hell, Lebow would bring someone in from the stands on the blitz if he could. Cutler can’t rebound from his last game if he’s running for his life back there.

by Waylon on Sep 16, 2009 4:47 PM CDT reply actions

That's primarily because

he’s a Tackle. Just like DH is a Cornerback… not a WR… and Payne is SS, not a FS, such a shock that our players dont make HOF candidates from position switches?
not bashing you, i’m just as frustrated…
