Good article about everyone overreacting to Cutler

What would the media do if this guy was the Chicago quarterback? They couldn’t read into him at all! This was after he won the championship too. So yeah, that’s him excited.

I'm sick of all this crap too Lovie.

I was sick of it in May. And it’s only gotten worse. The national media has turned into a tabloid.

About Dan McNeil.. oh how the mighty have fallen. (Stolen from his on air sidekick)

It’s gotten to the point where he just brings down a radio station. I mean he’s an Indiana guy now who talks Chicago Sports but really just wants to be a disc jockey talking 1970 rock bands and movies from 1994. I mean how many times can you watch Shawshank Redemption? He belittles Chicago Sports teams in the process. I mean do people really wanna hear you come up with a crappy song after a word was used during the show. My Sharona?Seriously you know how lame that is?

I mean how can you honestly read anything this guy writes after listening to that show? Sorry Mac you’re washed up like North and Giggs( you can throw Uncle Terry in that also)

by SoulEater7 on Sep 18, 2009 1:35 AM CDT reply actions

Eh

Terry can be funny, so he’s at least somewhat redeemeable compared to North.

I realize how bad our secondary situation is but

we’re picking up scraps from Cleveland? That is not comforting.

Just to put in perspective

Sometimes guys just aren’t good fits with one team/system, but better fits with another. DeAngelo Smith’s pre-draft scouting report says that he would excel playing zone defense so he can face the QB. Well, now he’s on a team that plays a lot of zone.

Of course, then there’s your Marcus Hamilton’s of the world…. the CB who came over from Tampa Bay (The “other” Tampa 2 team), and still sucked balls anyway.

I've said if from the beginning and I still say it

this kid Knox is going to be something special. He takes responsibility for the last interception and criticizes himself. I hope they don’t sit him this week in favor of DA. I’d like to see both of them on the field getting experience and drop (pun intended) Rashied. That “special teams” guy talk is ridiculous compared to grooming 2 young receivers who can impact a game.

by BearFan611 on Sep 18, 2009 7:59 AM CDT reply actions

special teams does impact a game

in fact, it’s the bears’ strongest unit at this point and for the last few years (since toub). they can keep 5 WR’s active for the game, just don’t send rashied out on offense.

they will not beat pittsburgh without something good happening on special teams.

by genetic on Sep 18, 2009 8:43 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree about Special Teams having an impact

but when did Rashied turn into Steve Tasker? All I’m saying is that I think either Knox or DA can take his place on the special teams unit and we wouldn’t see that big a drop off compared to what they could bring to the table as WR’s.

by BearFan611 on Sep 18, 2009 8:54 AM CDT up reply actions

Rashied

Everyone hates Rachied here, but like it or not he doens’t just play special teams, he excels at it. There were several special teams plays where Rachied is critical in taking down the ball carrier or having an critical impact to the ST play…Let the coaches coach.

by bskariya on Sep 18, 2009 10:29 AM CDT up reply actions

i agree

no, he’s not steve tasker but i do have some respect for him…he does play hard on ST’s and we need that. remember, he was a CB at one point. i don’t think the other two are going to be able to make a critical tackle if need be.

by genetic on Sep 18, 2009 10:37 AM CDT up reply actions

I disagree, he's a good special teams player but I wouldn't put in the "critical" category.

Special teams throughout the league are made up of players who hustle and know they’re probably not going to be starters for a long time and possibly ever. I just don’t believe that you can’t find another player already on the squad that couldn’t make, if not equal to, close to the contribution that he does. When you combine that with his ineffectiveness as a WR, I would much rather have 2 guys like DA and Knox and give them a shot at special teams with much more upside as receivers.

Hell, if Rashied were cut from the squad after the last pre-season game, none of us would have been that sorry to see it happen. I can’t see that he has become more valuable all of a sudden.

by BearFan611 on Sep 18, 2009 4:25 PM CDT up reply actions

but again

have you ever seen DA or knox make a tackle? have they ever made a tackle? did they even play any ST’s in college (besides returning kicks)? or fight through any blocks? it’s not as easy to tackle an NFL quality returner as you might think.

by genetic on Sep 19, 2009 7:08 AM CDT up reply actions

Did anyone see Rashied do it when he came into the NFL from the Arena League?

There are good Special Teams players on every team in the league but that is probably the lowest priority when making roster decisions. If all else is equal, then I agree with your choice, but Davis has proven he’s not a good NFL receiver. We don’t know about the other two players yet, but there’s only one way to really know. Knox showed flashes last week and I’d like to see what DA can do based on his pre-season performance.

I’m not saying to cut Rashied at this point, just give these kids a chance to show what they can do both as WR’s and on Special Teams. If one or both of them can make a tackle and catch a ball we’d be ahead of the game. If they can’t, then decisions have to be made longterm.

That can be some good radio at times, but other than that not really my cup of tea. But they arent soo bad thats why they only got honorable mentions, where as those other guys are on the list to stay.

I love when Terry starts rambling about his people or when he talks

about a subject without really saying much. Like when he says,

‘’ when you do that, that right there folks and I mean I’ve been around I have see my share, you know what I mean when you do that thats like by crackyyyyyyy, I mean kids thats just something right there thats something… I mean that right there folks is something and I mean my people tell me things and oh my folks, kids you just not good that right there. Folks thats a turd thats a turd right their folks I mean I’ve seen my share and I’m like accent old ass you know?’’

By then Bernstein says ok we have to take a break 670 the Score. Cutting him off in the process.

What, no way, he was great.

You could go on the air and have long conversations if you actually brought some good input to the show. I always felt he had a show that was for the people. Whereas some of these other guys are all about what they say and when they actually end up being right, especially if its over somebodys downfall or mistake, they get even more pompous.

But my bet is youre a Sox fan, I know a lot of people that dont like him, because he really never hid the fact that he was a Cubs fan on a Sox station no less, and if that is the case I could understand that.

Nope, Cubs fan

And Murphy had the most inane opinions and conspiracy theories. That’s what the man was all about. He catered to the homers, too.

And honestly, I want to hear knowledgeable people talk. I don’t want to hear fans.

Good point, but he was always an advocate about Soriano getting out of the leadoff and thats probably when I started listening to him the most.

Not to turn this into the BCB or anything. I do agree he was pretty off the wall at times.

Ehh

For all the people that say that Murph never blasted callers like B&B do, they’re dead wrong. Murph would interrupt constantly – B&B at least have a point to make.

And, as a disclaimer, I’m neither a Cubs fan or a Sox fan (gun to my head, I’m picking Sox just because the Cub meatballs seem worse).

Murph seemed ok but rarely offered insight. B&B, albeit underneath their rough exterior, will give you some fascinating statistics and views on whatever the news is.

Do you just not like baseball or are you a fan of another team.

Hey our meatballs taste just fine thank you very much!

I kind of enjoy when they blast callers and they definitely do, because its always some guy that has the most outlandish points to say.

For instance on Monday this guy called up and said “Urlachers garbage, why couldnt they just have him out there in the second half as a decoy, then maybe they wouldnt have scored on us in the end.” The man was clearly retarded and it was the first caller of the show.

So Boers came back with “Hey why dont we just put Dick Butkus out there as a decoy!” I found that to be halarious. And then Bernstein says “Thanks moron!” And I literally fell out of my seat.

I'm a huge baseball fan

Coach it collegiately, actually.

I’m a Braves fan. Grew up during the days where TBS was showing every Braves game and Maddux, Glavine, and Smoltz were dominating.

I listened to B&B on Monday, mostly just to listen to them bash the idiot callers. I really do like their show – I don’t necessarily always agree with them, but for the most part, they make good points. The one show I can’t stand to listen to is the Danny Mac show. Honestly makes me want to hurl for the most part. I wish they would’ve put any combination of Goff, Holmes, or Drinky from 9-1.

McNeil can be ok sometimes

But he is a ‘tard, I admit. Still, that Spiegal guy is something. I can’t stand him.

I miss the Me Show. Holmes is a good Bears guy.

You know what, though, I think Mully and Hanley are ok, as well. I don’t listen to them much, but I can’t remember having much of a problem with them.

Oh so youre a Braves fan huh

Now I know why you wouldnt pick the Cubs. Your team is the only one I have ever seen us beat in the playoffs in my lifetime at least, not to mention chicagoans took over your stadium.

I agree full heartedly on Danny Mac, him and Mike North need to be put on an island somewhere.

either that or their call screeners are non-existent. there’s a million opinions out there and a lot of the ones that call into a radio show aren’t worth listening to.

Not just callers. He’d get in fights with his colleagues and the experts that WSCR brought in. He’d get in arguments with Steve Stone and Hub Arkush during his latter days at the Score. I hated that guy.

I saw Brooks

on ESPN yesterday—as an analyst, but talking about his status, too.

He mentioned that he’s talked with a couple teams, and he said something about “after this week” that sounded pretty damn certain at the time, but then he quickly amended it and changed his tone to sound like he had no idea what the future holds…

Is it possible the Bears said, “We think we want you, but let’s see what happens in week 2, and we’ll be in touch immediately aftwerwards…”??

I wouldn’t be surprised if they got him, especially if H.H. proves to be a huge liability in coverage…

by Amishbear on Sep 18, 2009 1:26 PM CDT reply actions

Yeah

that’s kind of what he was saying in the article linked above. Sounds like the Bears are interested but want to wait to see how the “in house” options look this week. If the D can play like they did against GB, I think they stick with HH and NR until Pisa is back. What happened to Jamar Williams? Does anybody know? I thought he was supposed to back-up MLB, no?

by McRipper on Sep 18, 2009 1:43 PM CDT up reply actions

I figured that's what you meant

The D seemed to handle themselves pretty well with those guys in there and that was against a better O than the Steelers. Didn’t Pisa play MLB for the Rams? Is the D stronger with Briggs, Hillenmeyer, Pisa or Briggs, Pisa, Roach?

by McRipper on Sep 18, 2009 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions

Pisa played the weakside LB the last couple years

same as Briggs…

and I like HH at MLB… I think he’ll do fine, not Urlacher fine, but he’ll hold his own
